PT, VV and a Decent Plot Twist Save This From Disaster
21 March 2024
Released barely a few months post the Archies fiasco, Homi Adjania does only slightly better for Netflix. The writing is abysmal but with an interesting plotline. Pankaj Tripathi and Vijay Verma do a passable job and make it watchable for the entire duration.

But that's about it...

Acting by T. Chopra,D. Kapadia, S. Kapoor, K Kapoor and S. A. Khan just doesn't add up to to make this murder comedy truly enjoyable. The support cast does worse.

Cliched North Indian stereotypes belie the writer and directors undestanding of humour, which is evidently alien.

The editing, music and sound, and set design are thoroughly confused. Slow Ghazal inspired melancholy music is the poison to the comedic antidote, which only Pankaj Tripathi really gets.

The POIROT'esque fomula has been tried, applied, but quite poorly.

Skill and Creativity Take a Backseat
8 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I and a lot of my friends did see the film on the first day. Yay, a win for Netflix and the producers. But while it is a 'finnishable' film, the acting and writing are mediocre.

The setting is lovely with great art direction and camerawork. The support cast such as Koel, Tara, Alter, Ally, Luke, etc. Do a reasonable job and are probably the reason why the film even makes it on the ratings chart.

The dissappointment is really the acting skills (if any) of all of the lead characters and sadly, the writing and direction failed them. With so many songs, they hardly had screen time to build their charatcers. Nanda was not a good archie and I wonder if Raina and Nanda would have been better off switching their roles. Nonetheless, they were dissapointing as were the ladies. SK, KK and AS were abysmal. Difficult to connect with them.

The writing, at random songs, costumes, character development, dialogues seemed off. Betty, Archie and Ronnie have limited expressions and very similar dialogue delivery. Of all, Jughead was the most dissapointing as there was nothing Jughead about him. How can you ignore that signature hat and put in a goofy ascot? How can certain standard elements not be a part of the writing, such as Moose getting after Reggie or banters between Archie and his dad over money. There seemed little connect with the world of Archie comics or riverdale.

Overall, just icing and no cake.

Tom Cruise and Kosinski Know How To Make You Love Going To The Theatre, Again
30 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
My wife and I absolutely loved each and every minute of this film (Imax). Right from the goodbumps giving theme till the last few scenes, the film is really fun.

However, I still think that the old one was a tad better and the reasons are 2, casting and overall time.

The second one is easy to describe - various sequences needed to be delved into. They packed in so much of the stunt scenes that the non Cruise cast got a lot lesser time to show off any of their acting skills. The film should be 15-20 mins longer.

The first part, the casting, could have been a lot better. The entire team, with the exception of Miles Teller, was not up to the mark. They should have gone for a lot better cast. Connelly was definitely awesome and could have used a few mins more of screen time, but Jon Hamm was badly used. He just looked like he was going to have an aneurysm throughout his few minutes.

That being said, had the film been another 15 mins longer, it may have allowed the actors to show off their skills. In the first movie, they did it well.

However, if there is a TOP GUN 3, I would definitely see it and only in the hall.

How To Ruin A Sequel Trilogy 101
19 February 2022
The Matrix was part of my philosophy curriculum (connecting Jean Baudrillard) in Undergrad engineering school. The film changed filmmaking with tints, cool black clothes, philosophical questions, a storyline which needed brains to understand and which had unbelievable action sequences. The film was made so well that above average actors like Reeves, Moss, Fishburne and Weaving became almost geek legends. It became a cult.

Resurrections is a mockery of what the first film stood for. While all of these films seem like a philosophy discourse in the mind of the Wachowskis, this one fails miserably as simply a badly made film. The story actually isn't too bad but the execution seems like that of a 'spent' filmmaker. The issues start with casting. Chopra, Mateen, Groff, Henwick & NPH seem like the proverbial fish out of water. How can one take NPH seriously in a philosophical film when he's Doogie or a stoner from Harold & Kumar for millennials, and Barney for GEN Z.

The movie strayed from its winning formula. In the time of Marvel and Wick, the action sequences needed evolution. The CG was below industry standard and frankly, Reeves and Moss are badly used. Groff was a decent choice but came off as a jock, as opposed to an Agent.

The editing was odd and the starting sequence was a yawn. All in all, it was a boring film and perhaps Lana herself needs a reboot. She will always be the great maker of Matrix, but its perhaps not to think of it as a tetralogy.

Pure Marvel Money Making 'Gimmick'
30 April 2015
Cheap jokes that are getting awfully boring now; A villain made by one of the Avengers in the most amateurish way possible (and without any sort of basic plot development) and who should have been more developed as a character. A plot that is thin with loopholes and beautiful 'conveniences'. Weird plot additions which are incongruous.Animation/CG that itself looks funny at times (like when Ultron speaks). And all coming together like a complete formula which is getting terribly banal.

Of course, most of us have seen other films in the Marvel universe and so probably will go see this one as well and others in future. But unlike Captain America the Winter Soldier or Guardians of The Galaxy, this one is just not up to the mark.

Maybe it's time to see what DC does.

Pretty Good Bombay Mafia Flick
10 November 2005
Warning: Spoilers
A depiction of Bombay/Mumbai's underworld scenario seen through the eyes of the Crime-Lord Ajay Devgan and new to the 'Company' Vikek Oberoi. The film is a loose take on the life of Dawood Ibrahim and his troupe.

The film has excellent direction and a good script unlike most bollywood trash. The actors, who despite having little acting talent, have actually done a fabulous job in portraying their respective characters. Anatara Mali and Manisha Koirala have also done a good job supporting rest of the cast.

A refreshing change from the usual bollywood stuff. A must see.

Compare to: Satya, Godfather Thank you

Un-Balievable
11 July 2005
Story of how a drifter while staying in vacant homes and repaying them by doing chores, comes across an abused wife and their relationship thereafter.

This movie is simply amazing. Without uttering a single word, both the lead actor and actress portray their personality and persona impeccably. The direction is a masterpiece and deserves due adulation.

Somewhat following the Kurosawa style of extreme character development by focusing on expression and actions rather than dialog, this movie is a treat to watch and is a refreshing change from the usual humdrum.

Thank you

Another Masterpiece out of South Korea
16 April 2005
When I fist read the plot, I though it was going to be one of those twisted Hollywood sexual social dramas but with an Asian touch to it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was indeed wrong.

This movie has some wild scenes but they don't seem incongruent or raunchy. They blend in with the social circumstances and with the personalities of the characters. The plot outlines the lives of two individuals who don't relish the idea of marriage which is, for lack of a better word, imperative for social harmony according to the Korean society. They however get along very well since they share amongst other things, a desire for closure and personal comfort.

The movie is very well directed with full credit going to its impeccable screenplay. The acting is fabulous with both the lead actor and actress doing a splendid job.

Overall, I would give this a 9/10

Thank you

Interesting concept but not quite up-to the mark
13 April 2005
The story is about a man who meets the youngest of three sisters and then ends up influencing all of their lives in the most charismatic way. He tries his best to uplift their spirits by giving them closure and a friend. This is by no means a lewd flick and has a lot of class in the field of direction and acting. The ending fits the movie but not many people may like it.

This is a definitely worth a watch but don't expect it to be anything to the tune of "My sassy girl" which in my opinion is the best romantic movie to come out of Korea in recent times. This one however has very good acting from LEE and CHOI with good support from rest of the cast. The flavour of the movie is of the typical Korean romance flick but needs to have a much more solid script which goes helter-skelter from time to time.

a 7/10 at least.

Thank you

Fun, Jovial and best of all, True to romance
28 March 2005
This is one of those movies that makes you think about it for hours after you have seen it(whether the first or the fifth time). The reason being that it is funny, witty and enthralling while still maintaining the charisma of a great Korean romantic movie.

You will undoubtedly hate Ji-Hyun Jun for the better half of the film but by the end, she will be one of the most enchanting woman you ever saw (Besides Audrey Hepburn off-course). Tae-Hyun Cha plays the role of a difident sort nice guy but with good acting and sound expressions.

Overall, I would give this a 10/10. Don't forget to read the book though, its a lot funnier and accurate.

Thank you

A disaster compared to the first
11 December 2004
Lacks a lot as compared to the first one. I wont reveal anything about the movie, just that a lot of it doesn't blend and the storyline is silly when all becomes clear in the end. Jones didn't really have anything to contribute and nor did much of the cast. Clooney, pitt and daemon do decent job but there just isn't enough to sustain interest throughout the movie. If it wasn't for jones and some hot models, I would have fallen asleep mid-way. Julia Roberts looks like death herself especially when she is playing herself(you will see what I mean after you watch the movie). Might be worth a watch just for a few laughs but don't expect anything(only then you might enjoy it). *** out of 5.

thank you

The intricacy of the human mind couldn't have been implemented in simpler words
30 November 2004
Warning: Spoilers
Akira Kurosawa, possibly the greatest film-maker to come out of Asia, has tried to explain one of the fundamental truths about life - that each man views it from a different perspective and that his actions are governed by selfish desires. Man desires hope to achieve his goals, ironically, it is man who is also the one who can take it away.

The entire movie is about 90 minutes with just enough dialogues to fill about 3 pages. The cast has only 6 characters with no special effects, no trick photography(if even existed at that time), no panoramic locations, not even a fake blood spatter. Yet, it has unparalleled detail and complexity. If not the best, it certainly is one of the best implementations of directing and screenplay in the history of cinema.

Basic synopsis : "Spoiler Alert"

Three people tell their version of a heinous crime committed near osaka, Japan. All have different details with each one trying to save his honour. The mystery of who is right and wrong seems to have been solved when the 4th version is revealed. Little does it matter thought when even this version has its own new culprit. A display of "evil" and an act of retribution brings about the twist and unravels ideology behind the movie.

Overall, one needs about 90 minutes to watch this movie and a lifetime to show their praise for it. A timeless classic that shouldn't be missed.

Thank you

The opinion of a critic and a fan
5 July 2004
Warning: Spoilers
***********************Spoiler Alert********************************

The fan says,

Very good CGI, It isn't the Matrix or LOTR but still worth watching. Octavious is quite an interesting fellow, the green goblin added a certain comic charm not seen entirely in Octavious but he certainly is worth being the spider's nemesis. The choreography was excellent to say the least. The movie is certainly worth a watch.

The critic says,

Below average acting but then again, thats not what comic-book movies are famous for. A rather weak script with many loose ends. Too many tears, a super-hero movie isn't supposed to be so emotional or at least thats what the general stereotype portrays. Could do with some more characters and situations besides Octavious, MJ, Harry and aunt May to add a bit of variation from the monotony. Could definitely use a better storyline with more interesting twists and turns. There are no memorable scenes really besides the train sequence.

Overall, I would say it is entertaining. You really don't ever want to look at the time during the show. A ****7*** at least. \

Enjoy the show..!

BloodRayne (2002 Video Game)
R U Scared...!
27 February 2004
This is one hell of game. Firstly, please have at least a radeon 9200 or better card with 512 ram along with a 2.4 ghz or better processor. this game is very demanding.

Rayne is by far the collest video game character ever created. She is gorgeous, seductive and has an insatiable desire for blood.

You better play this if you liked blade or vampire-hunter D.

Pros : great graphics, average sound but fits well, great character, vision modes, harpooning victims and then sucking the life out of them, decent plot, good choice of attacks(hand to hand, harpooning, guns)

Cons : needs very high specs, too repetitive, rayne's powers are very stagnant(you cant do more than a few moves), needs more hand to hand fighting options like jedi knight games.

overall a must if you enjoy vampires and the like.

I'll tell you what the hype's about..!
5 February 2004
Warning: Spoilers
---------WARNING - SPOILER ALERT--------------

A man suffering with short-term memory loss, seeks revenge for the murder of his wife.

Sounds like a recipe for a bad comedy. I thought it was going to be longest 2 hours of my life when i saw the cover of the dvd but i had nothing better to do.

SO whats so exciting about a guy that takes polaroids of his car and hotel while tattooing license plate numbers on his body? Its his condition. He cant make new memories. He remebers everything uptill the accident but after that its all in pictures and tattoos.

The movie cant be explained. You have to see it to comprehend it. You have to see it again to comprehend it. But you must accept one thing, the movie does not have a definite ending. the director never made it to prove anything, just to toy with our minds.

We believe whatever we want to believe. We forget whatever we want to forget. We remember whatever we want to remember. But no matter how hard he tries, he cant. So, in order to make life justifiable, he decides to go on his own terms. Using his condition to his advantage, (and to others advantage or so it seems), he tries bring meaning and purpose to his life. Something he wasnt able to do before the accident.

The movie is great not because it is in reverse, not because it has some fantastic direction, not because it has a sexy green jag, but because it makes one wonder if we are truly honest to ourselves.

watch this one CLOSELY.

Thank you for your time
