A must see for any music fan with a sense of humour.
29 July 2020
I am not a Will Ferrell fan. Yet I feel it was one of his best and I enjoyed it from start to finish. As a music fan and a huge musical comedy fan it ticked all the boxes. I dont understand the low ratings with all these hugely impressed reviews. I agree with all. It captures the essence of Eurovision, showcases Iceland well and has laughs and love and funny songs to boot. A must see!! All actors did a fantastic job.

Not a kids movie. Not a family movie. A movie for... no-one!
8 March 2019
I agree 100% with the other reviewer. We sat down as a family to watch this, thinking the kids may enjoy it. After falling asleep 30mins in, due to the scientific jargon and black magic cult like script, terrible 80s animation sequences, and uninteresting scenes, even the kids soon had enough.

There is a reason why Disney is the king of family movies. It uses great stories, animated or acted well. with colour and music to keep you alert, interested and wanting more. This movie has none of those. With it's star studded voice actors, you'd expect they had a decent budget to make something great. So what happened?

One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time - and we watch a lot of movies! I feel sorry for the kids sitting through it, as I don't think their minds were expanded or helped in any way.

Give this one a miss. Watch anything else. Or just read a book for 90mins. You'll feel much better for it.

Love & Debt (2019)

Modern take on family life, debt and love
15 February 2019
As a fan of real issues portrayed in movies, where families experience the highs and lows of modern life and its challenges, I found Love & Debt very engaging.

The script is well written and the actors do a fine job of drawing you into their world and their emotional journey. It is indeed true that we all now live far beyond our means, swimming in debt, and ready to dismiss or abuse those trying to collect. The most important things in life are family and happiness. Be satisfied with where you are and what you have, but keep working at it because every day presents a new possibility to ruin or success... this story shows it well.

If you are a fan of The Story of Us, Parenthood and other similar takes on the struggles of raising a family, then you should enjoy this film. Not sure why the low rating. I couldn't fault the movie (and I watch hundreds each year)! Sit back with your partner, after the kids are asleep and enjoy the emotional rollercoaster of Love & Debt.

Fast Five (2011)

Great Action and Value for Money F&F Film
12 September 2011
Any reviewer who rates this low (thereby bringing down the IMDb rating for this film) completely misses the point of the F&F franchise and the writers' intention to bring a fun, action-packed car chase film to it's fans - not, to challenge the minds of intellectuals or get all the physics right. Let's face it, what movie DOES? It's entertainment! You're paying to be wowed and impressed - not to learn how a car crumples on slamming into the ground awkwardly at high speeds. Criticise this film for its lack of realism and you'll join the pack of nay-sayers and party-poopers in the corner! Straight up, this film is one of the best - if not THE best - of the Fast and Furious series so far. It's loaded with crazy fast paced action, which it delivers right off the bat with an explosive rescue of Dom from his prison bus. Totally crazy, but totally amazing to watch - as are all of the action sequences including dragging an over-sized object behind the cars and having it slam into everything in sight. Hilarious, maddening and absolutely awesome to watch! Hey, it's entertainment.

One thing that this movie does do for fans is get all the favourite cast members back together for a great heist film. The car racing is not as prominent in this movie, as in previous versions, but it still includes some exciting races with the lead characters. Stunt driving is there in droves, and the cars - whilst not a huge range - are impressive enough to wet one's appetite.

The story is solid, and the characters are well defined and the introduction of The Rock into the mix, facing him against Vin Diesel, is a waving banner for "great fight sequence"! It's intense and reminiscent of the crazy WWE action! There's a bit of romance, a sprinkling of a thriller and suspense, a sampling of horror (softened for a well rounded audience), plenty of over the top action and the standard comedy moments (keenly enjoyed in this series). If you want a new take on the Fast and Furious series, with plenty of good times and value for money - whether you see it in a cinema, or rent it on DVD/BD - then Fast Five is certainly worth every cent!
