Ready or Not (2019)
Worthwhile Watch
I enjoyed this movie. I love horror movies, and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find good, entertaining ones.
This kept my attention and was fun to watch. The storyline is familiar, but has been changed up enough to keep it interesting.
Worth a watch!
Midsommar (2019)
WTF Did I Just Watch?
The cinematography was beautiful, but that's about all I enjoyed about this movie.
I'm not even sure that this should be classified as a horror. I'm not sure what this was.
Very strange. Several parts were predictable. Others were left unexplained.
Overall, I kept watching to see if it was going to get better, but it didn't.
Just weird.
Scream Queens (2015)
Started Out Promising....
I watched the pilot with little expectation - only because it seemed like a "teen show". I'm a huge horror fan though, and serious fan of American Horror Story's Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk. The first episode was incredibly funny. The writing was fun and sarcastic and I was literally laughing out loud. I was impressed that they managed to take a horror series and add some serious comedy to it. The 2nd and 3rd episodes took a complete nosedive. It was almost as if they hired different writers for these episodes. It seemed forced and the humour was gone. I'm very disappointed that what started out as a really great show seems to have taken a turn in the wrong direction. They were really onto something with the pilot - it's a shame they didn't follow through.
Bloody Homecoming (2013)
WOW... Unbelievably Bad!
I am a huge horror fan, so when I saw the score of 6/10 on this and the glowing review (ok so it only had 1 review, and that should have been a huge red flag), I jumped at the chance to watch Bloody Homecoming. I thought it would be a fun, prom-night-esque type of movie.
Wrong. So Wrong.
This is one of the worst movies I have seen in a long time. I only gave it a 1/10 because that's the lowest rating you can give.
The acting was flat and forced. There was no natural talent in this. I realize most of the actors and actresses in this are young, but the absolute worst actor was the one that played the principal. He's about as exciting as watching paint dry.
The script itself was like something I saw in an episode of Scooby Doo back in the 70s. The only thing missing was a line similar to "and I would have gotten away with it too if it weren't for those meddling kids". I have absolutely no problem with similar types of story lines being used in multiple movies, but this was just horrible.
If you're looking to fill and hour and a half of your time, I would suggest a root canal before watching this.
Disconnect (2012)
Powerful Movie!
Ordinarily, I'm not a drama-movie kind of person, but Disconnect was a wonderfully powerful and emotional movie that held my attention for the entire time. Jason Bateman was absolutely fantastic in a serious role as a father and husband navigating his way through family pain and searching for answers regarding his son.
Part of the emotional punch of this movie comes from the fact that these types of situations happen every single day around the world, because of the internet. It gives us the power to connect to strangers worldwide, while at the same time, losing touch with the people in our own homes. Our personal photos, our personal info and our personal pain becomes accessible to total strangers. Disconnect explores these situations in an honest, real way.
I highly recommend this movie!
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Dreadful and Shameful
The rating on this movie (which is part of the reason I watched it) just goes to show you that you simply cannot rely on the voting system here at IMDb anymore. There are entirely way too many cast and crew going and "reviewing" their own movies and giving them ridiculously high votes.
As an unbiased viewer, I can sum it up in one short sentence: this movie was a ridiculous, laughable and shameful waste of time.
I absolutely love horror movies. I don't expect much of a storyline, but something plausible is always nice. In Cabin in the Woods, it seems like they tried TOO hard to make a storyline, and a joke of one at that.
I'm still cringing at the fact that I actually wasted an hour and a half of my time on this trash. Ugh.
The Tall Man (2012)
One of the best this year!
I just watched this last night and wasn't really sure what to expect. Jessica Biel is always good in whatever she does, but she has truly outdone herself in this movie.
The story was expertly written, the suspense was palpable, the acting was superb and the setting was eerie.
My husband and I were both glued to it - THAT doesn't happen too often! The way the story was told was in such a way that you really don't understand what's truly happening until it's almost over. The sense of mystery and suspense was held throughout the entire movie - a feat not often accomplished in many movies these days. The twists and turns made absolute sense - they were clearly not just thrown in there, but rather, extremely well thought out in terms of story line.
I find myself still rethinking the entire thing today, as it leaves you questioning morals, ethics and everything in between. How often does a movie actually make you think these days? I'd highly recommend this one to anyone looking for an incredibly well done movie.
Prometheus (2012)
Seriously Disappointing!
I originally had no interest in seeing this movie when I saw trailers of it; it just seemed like yet another alien movie... same old premise, same type of storyline...
After seeing its rating on IMDb, my husband and I decided to check it out.
The plot had way too many holes to make it anywhere near logical to a reasonable, semi-conscious viewer. Yes, it's set in the future, yes, it deals with a subject that is debatable at the best of times, but still, there are ways to draw people in and make them believe even the most unbelievable things.
We chose to see it in 3D, which, to be honest, I have no idea why they even bothered making a 3D version... it did absolutely nothing for the film. It's a shame when 3D isn't used to make the film more exciting and enjoyable.
It wasn't the worst film I've ever seen, but I really suggest waiting to see it when it comes out on blu-ray. I personally find that we wasted our money going to the theatre to see it.
ATM (2012)
Kept Me Watching....
I actually really enjoyed this movie. I've read some really negative reviews of ATM, and really, it should not be classified as horror, but definitely a thriller.
The suspense was palpable. The acting was strong - even though I'd never heard of any of these actors before.
The only thing that bothered me about this movie was that there was never any explanation as to why all this happened in the first place. Why these people were targeted and what the motivations of the captor were.
The ending could have been stronger, but all in all, it kept my attention for the entire duration and kept me wondering until the end.
Hatchet (2006)
Truly Awful
Horrible script, acting and gore scenes. One of the worst horror movies I've seen and I've seen a LOT of them. I don't expect much from a horror movie, but this one is insulting on all levels.
The storyline is similar to many horror movies that came before it.. nothing really original there, but that's alright, since horror isn't necessarily about originality.
The "gore" was absolutely dreadful. I realize this isn't anywhere near a big budget movie, but really, this had the worst "special effects" I've seen in quite some time.
This one was a real stinker...
