Sitting on the fence

This show had it's moments and at times I did laugh. I think my biggest problem with the show is that I remember how well Jack Klugman and Tony Randall played Oscar and Felix. They are very big shoes to fill and I am sure I am not the only one who will compare all of them. I also had problems trying to separate Chandler Bing and Oscar Madison. This happens frequently when an actor plays a part for a long time as Matthew did in friends(10 years).

The best part of this show was when Dave Foley and Wendell Pierce were at Oscar's. I was saddened to see that Dave is only in one episode though.

I believe the show has potential and given time they can do well with the show. But sometimes it is better to just remember how great some of the old shows are and make new comedies.

The Walking Dead (2010–2022)
Best Television Series Ever!!!
9 February 2015
Everything has already pretty much been said in all the reviews. I just wanted to say how much it blows my mind the amount this show has evolved from the first episode to the ones this season. The Zombies are unbelievable now. And sometimes they even scare me. LOL, I love that in movies or TV shows.

I thought the show did well from the beginning with the zombies but I just watched all the seasons again during the break. The show has really come a long way.

Hope the series plays for many more years, but we are finishing the 5th year and most shows don't last much longer than that.

I liked it!!!

Warning: Spoilers
For me most of the intelligence TV shows or movies are pretty much the same just different actors. Covert Affairs, Spooks, Strike Back, Nikita, Chuck, The Americans, etc all basically have the same premise. We don't even care that much how believable they are.

But what brings us back week after week are the characters. Because really do we honestly believe all these missions happen week after week? I am intrigued about the Russian element to the show. I liked the characters so far for the most part. I'm kind of iffy on mommy dearest.

I believe this show does it as well as most others but I love the twist with the parents being Russian spies. Yes I know it has been done, The Americans. Before everyone jumps on me I am not saying they are in the same caliber as The Americans, but I think there will be room for this one as well.

Intelligence Agency TV shows are quickly replacing those gawd awful reality shows and really aren't we all glad for that.

The first time I watched State of Affairs I knew I didn't like it but watched the next one and realized I shouldn't have wasted my time. I enjoyed Covert Affairs, but they wrecked this with the last season. I loved Nikita but I think they went as far as they could go, but I loved the characters. Strike Back was a series I quite enjoyed, but even that show was starting to be the same every week.

I believe this one has a chance, but then I really liked Intelligence and they cancelled that. I think this show is just about entertainment as were most of the others and I think this will be a show I will watch weekly, until they screw it up with the partners sleeping together.

Eyes Wide Open
3 February 2015
I have just finished watching this documentary. While some people are giving negative comments about the documentary and the journalists part in it. People are under the impression this was only to be about America's Military in Afghanistan. However, near the beginning Mike stated that he had sacrificed his family because he neglected them and choose to be a war correspondent. He felt he had this last chance to connect with his son and if he blew it he would lose his son.

Mike is an award winning journalist. He is a war correspondent. He has covered world conflict for 30 years, and was kidnapped and threatened with execution as well as been a survivor of suicide bombing. Carlos and Mike embedded themselves with U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division to bring their perspective of the war in Afghanistan. His coverage dates back to Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

Without journalists like him we would never be able to understand some of the things that happens in war. To see someone injured or who has died makes it so real for us. Every day men and women at war go to work everyday not knowing if they will die today. They hunt down the really bad men in this world and although I do not believe in the death penalty, I wont lose sleep if these kinds of men die.

Carlos and Mike were 2 different people in the end of the documentary then they were at the beginning of it. They finally had their connection, their bond as father and son.

I feel they have made sacrifices for us as well...

Sadly Disappointing

Warning: Spoilers
Seriously this is how you want us to believe that this is the CIA. Or maybe it is the Central Idiotic Agency.

I have never watched anything remotely as bad as this when any intelligence agency was involved. Maxwell Smart (Get Smart)had more going on upstairs than these agents and staff.

I will be happy when the first woman of any colour is elected as president. But we are no where near this happening, let alone a black female president. I am not racist, I am being a realist. Obama, the first black man elected as president didn't happen until 2008. If Oprah was running though I might see this before I die.

The opening scene was amazing. After that it went downhill very quickly. While I realize this is a television drama, I would have liked to see something believable regarding the CIA.

The Director (Skinner) allowed an unsearched Syrian Intelligence Chief into the CIA's building and into the intelligence office when just recently he was arrested for bringing a cellphone to the French Intelligence offices. Charlie (Heigl) phones an older man walking a dog that shows up to stop the vehicle carrying Skinner and Khan(Syrian Intelligence Chief) on their way to meet the president. The dog walker states that he is the Secret Service and quickly removes Khan from the vehicle. Then informs him how he will remove the cellphone from his body(okay this was almost a believable CIA tactic) when he has a light bulb moment and removes Khan's hat to find the cellphone inside. By the by, he is not really Secret Service, he is just an old man walking a dog.

The president(mommy dearest) and Charlie (Heigl) the almost daughter-in-law seek revenge for the death of her fiancé, who just happened to be the presidents son. He was murdered by Fatah, a terrorist who attacked a diplomatic convoy in which Charlie and her fiancé were travelling in. He died, she didn't.

Really, this is what you want us to believe??? There isn't enough drugs or alcohol on earth that could make me believe this.

OK, I gave the show one more try. But found the 2nd episode worse than the first. Charlie requests that the CIA asset of more than 30 years, destroy the submarine along with 6 months of top USA secrets. Then she lies to him about a previous meeting her and her father and the asset and his daughter in a park. Remembering that her father said to her that the asset was a hero. What if there had never been a meeting with her father? She just compromised the mission. All the while she is making this request tears are rolling down her cheek. But as soon as she knew he would complete it she walks slowly out of the room. Doesn't even have the decency to stay with him so he doesn't die alone. I'm sorry I just can't swallow a CIA agent tearing up, especially that she had never worked with this man. It is just horrible cliché after horrible cliché.

Best Comedy I Have Watched in Years!!!
6 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I was shocked when I came here to see the bad reviews and wondered if we had watched the same show.

As others have said typical Irish-Catholic Boston family, if not a bit red-neck with a slight twist of All in the Family's Archie Bunker. That is the charm of the show.

Laurie Metcalf is Brilliant as per usual. I kind of recognized the rest of the family but came in IMDb to get more information on the show and actors. I have seen Jack McGee in other television shows which I have enjoyed. I recognized Joey McIntyre's name from NKOTB; however, I didn't know he was an actor as well. I was pleasantly surprised seeing John Ritter's son, Tyler Ritter in this show. I like so many other John Ritter fans were saddened and heart broken by his unexpected death. So now it feels like we have a little piece of him back. Kelen Coleman, I've seen on Men at Work (another great comedy I thought) and The Newsroom.

To me this looks like a great cast, great writing and lots of laughs. What more do we need for a successful comedy?

New television shows typically get better each episode as we get to know the characters more. I am really looking forward to more episodes and I hope they continue with the same formula they are using now for the show.

My favourite scene is the ending when the mom is sending off each child with a plate of food, while quietly telling them that each of them is her favourite. Until she is saying good bye to her daughter and doesn't tell her that she is her favourite but reminds her not to forget to bring the plate back.

Gotham: Pilot (2014)
Season 1, Episode 1

This show has the potential to be a hit!!!
24 September 2014
I loved the darkness and dreariness of Gotham city in the opening of the pilot. The ominous and sinister feeling of the city was around every corner.

The young Bruce Wayne played by David Mazouz seemed a bit wobbly to me but they are big shoes to fill. However, I had thought they could have developed the character more and not introduce us to so many of the dastardly villains in the pilot.

Donal Logue is one of my favourite television actors as he always seems to play the gritty and cynical characters well.

Alfred is a big disappointment. I didn't get that warm and fuzzy feeling that he was protective of Bruce Wayne.

When I heard about Gotham and that Ben McKenzie was going to be playing James Gordon I wasn't sure he could pull this role off. I was mildly surprised that he actually did well with the character.

As soon as I heard some of the cheesy lines I knew this could be a hit. I enjoyed the old television series when Batman was played by Adam West. The writing in Gotham has some of the same cheesiness as that series did also.

The visuals are done well, the characters for the most part seem to be selected well and the writing I was certainly surprised that it was so well written for a pilot.

I will definitely watch more episodes. I am very intrigued to see where they go with the episodes and hopefully won't ruin Batman by making it a television series with the premise being pre-batman.

I am in no way an expert on Batman comics but the show felt like a comic book to me.

Taxi Brooklyn (2014)
6/10
Sorefully Disappointing
25 August 2014
This show had the potential to be pretty decent. The acting is passable; however, I am not sure if this is about the actors or the horrible scripts they have to work with.

Ally Walker is just not suited for this kind of show either. If her character was tamed down and actually acted like a woman of her age it would probably work better. I am not suggesting she needs to act like an old woman. But for a woman of her characters years I would think she would act a bit more maturely and not so air-headed. Although, I also don't think if this is her character that she can pull it off.

I haven't seen Chyler Leigh in any of her previous work. But her attempt at sarcasm seems lost to her or maybe it is the bad script. I think though it might be a bit of both.

Jacky Ido is also new to me. He seems to be the only actor there that is comfortable in his role and he does it well despite the writing. His fear of being in small spaces seems to be hit and miss at times. And for someone with this fear I would think being in a taxi for most of the day would be difficult as well.

Bill Heck doesn't seem to be used in enough scenes. If the show had paired him with Jacky Ido as the two leads I feel the show would have come off better. His character at times does have the more rigidness of a special agent but then he goes too lax in some scenes. I would much rather watch him being an asshole than wishy washy.

The police work on this show is not really the important part. Showing how the characters all blend together I think has been their focus. Trying to add some sarcasm is not a bad idea; however, it needs to be done well. The writers and the actors have to mesh to hit this to gain a laugh here and there.

If the show comes back for a 2nd season I hope they have fired the writers and tweaked some of the characters. Taxi Brooklyn does have the potential to be a more enjoyable show.

Disappointing
11 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I read some of the bad reviews and then some of the good reviews and decided not to pay attention to any of them and watch the film with an open mind.

I was disappointed in the movie especially for having a 70 million dollar budget. It was not the worst movie I have watched but I did find many faults.

There did not seem to be a flow in the movie and scenes were not long enough for the most part. Then there were the scenes that were too long. The fight scenes were quite disappointing, especially where Hercules fights 6 who have never lost a fight before to gain freedom for himself and Sotiris. If you blinked you would have missed watching Hercules killing the 5 men and pinning down the woman. That is how quickly this scene was over.

The final fight between King Amphitryon and Hercules was brilliant and almost worth watching all of the movie before it.

I do feel that this movie does rate between 4 or 5 stars and that might be a bit too much. It is not a movie I would recommend to anyone.

Renny Harlin directed this movie and I looked at some of his past movies and he seems to make pretty much the same quality of movies as this one. I am truly stumped as to why he was given a 70 million dollar budgeted movie.

The acting was quite poor for most of the actors but not all can be blamed on the actors when the writing was poor as well.

I am trying to find the positives about this movie but I am drawing a blank.

Shame on those that rated this documentary low!!!
10 April 2014
Those of you who claim Lt. Murphy's mission was to go to Afghanistan and kill innocent people should know that Taliban leader Ahmad Shah in Afghanistan, has killed as many as 20 US Marines. He has killed or ordered his men to kill people of his own country that have aided the US military. He was actually trying to help capture or kill Ahmed Shah who recklessly killed people having no thought or value of their life. He sacrificed his life every time he went on a mission.

Shame on all of you that gave low ratings for this documentary. One even asking who is Lt. Murphy. If you had actually listened to everyone in this documentary you would know exactly who he was. Shame on all of you that gave a review based on your own agenda for the mission. A review should be about the context of the documentary. If it was factual and informative.

The mission was a small part of the documentary. It was part of Lt. Murphy but it was not how he was defined. He was defined for always thinking of others, always helping others, always protecting others. How dare any of you dishonor him or others like him with your comments.

He chose to protect his country. He chose to protect people in other countries as many servicemen and women do. All of them willing to sacrifice their lives for us.

He absolutely is a hero. He was a man willing to sacrifice his life for the other members of his team. It was not his fault that only one survived. It was not his fault that 16 men in the rescue helicopter perished. They are also heroes.

I have watched Lone Survivor and I am in awe of these men. They don't quit, they don't feel pain, they don't judge the mission. They only attempt to complete their mission with as little casualties as they can. They do their best for the mission and the team members.

He is a true hero. Something some of you have no understanding of. He saved one man that day. How many of you have saved a life. Shame on you!!!

Although I am not an American I am truly proud and grateful of all the men and women who serve to protect us.

Very Disappointing
22 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I am at a loss for words at how bad this movie was. When I saw Tom Sizemore was in it I knew it was doomed. The movie went downhill from there.

I have watched a few SEALs movies and they were nothing like this. Firstly I don't think any member of the team would sleep with anyone, especially someone they just met. Seriously what SEALs member would sleep with an asset that had been held captive, tortured and probably raped. The asset would be traumatized. SEALs members are there to do the mission and nothing else. They wouldn't deviate from the mission; they wouldn't let their guard down. They are highly trained men.

I would think someone would come and take the asset away from there if those men were going to another site. There didn't seem too much direction from the higher ups and this team was allowed to run amuck.

They also wouldn't hesitate to kill someone as he did near the end. Sorry I don't remember his name; I didn't pay that much attention.

The gunfights reminded me more of Die Hard movies than a SEALs movie. And I'm really wondering where all that ammo came from.

I didn't expect the movie to be 100% authentic but I did expect some authenticity. So I was disappointed when this movie had little to none.

If you have a couple of hours to waste to watch a movie with no real entertainment value then this is your movie.
