Kék Pelikan (2023)
The best I WAS THERE feeling in a long time
While you have to be at a certain age to actually be able to say I WAS THERE, this movie give the best shot the help travel back to an period of time that was unique and magical in it's own way.
The incredible story of three good friends, Ákos, Laci and Petya, who want travel to Europe around the time of the collapse of the iron curtain. It's almost like a detective tale, but from the perspective of the perpetrator. Who are I no way villains, but friendly, open minded and brave opportunist. And yes, it's a true story, which makes it even more enjoyable.
I had the privilege to know one of the guys Ákos, who was a real character and a true fighter for a just cause.
One of the best Hungarian movies recently!
Most vagy soha! (2024)
The most expensive propaganda movie with falsified history
For the price of this film, four really good historical movies could have been made. You could also make a good action film about 1848 and not just about the fight for independence. It could even have been about Commander-in-Chief von Lederer, who in May of 1848 actually used a gun to break up the demonstration held against him in Buda.
Contrary to what is shown in the film as fiction, like fighting with knives and guns, shootings, jumping out the window, pregnant action heroine...you can't make this up.
This much nonsense and ahistoricity can only be condensed into more than two hours on purpose.
Un homme heureux (2023)
"Nice try of the gender movements" said one review, no, it's a great one!
First thing first: this is great french cinema. If you like french comedy, you will love the movie, no matter what you think of the topic. And this is one of the greatest (but not the only) achievements of the movie. It gives you an easy, yet deep view of controversial social issues, partnership and unconditional love. It also gives you a short but thought-provoking insight of the trans world, make you ask questions and even gives you rather easy answers, if you are open to: acceptance.
You will laugh through the whole movie, and still think about how such situations would play out in your own world, family or country.
With respect to the hardships of trans people, it's a fun ride!
The Batman (2022)
Sacrilege or not
I like this movie better than TDK, not because of the performances of the actors (thou comparable), but because of the script and overall feeling. Real Batman atmosphere with real characters and original story. I really wait for the next chapter and love the fact that young actor can play Batman for hopefully a long period of time. Dark, but also funny, great music, amazing photography and no overused CGI.
Don't listen to the TDK fans, just enjoy this as a standalone and totally different kind of approach. Matt Reeves made the Planet of the Apes series feel like a whole story and this might be even better at the end!
Aranybulla (2022)
High budget, aimed low
This movie had virtually unlimited resources, but unfortunately this cannot make up for the low aim of the story, script and overall propagandist approach.
When released some already called it the Game of Thrones of Hungary, even before it had any reviews. This is typical of state run movie projects, but when I watched the first episode I was even more stunned by the idiocracy with which this movie tries to be everything, the best, the biggest, the most christian, the most hungarian etc. But fails at even the most basic standards.
It gives you the feeling of a socialist "live action documentary" in which you get short blocks of teachers (modern day experts) who add some historic review, making it even more silly and annoying, on top of the constant narration.
You can feel how the main purpose is to indoctrinate certain religious and political values, in the very distant shadow of well known series.
Cheap trick for a high price, paid largely by public funds.
