The Walking Dead: World Beyond (2020)
someone put me out of my mysery
I have this terrible habit to finish shows once I start them, just so that I have a full opinion and not be unfair. Oh man.... this is why I pick my shows very carefully and I gave it a shot, since I am a "Walking Dead" fan and I don't really hate "Fear" either. But oh man, they got me... Once in a while I get to be tortured and it's being a long time since the last time I had to go through a torture like that. If the other 2 shows had all that money in their budget they could have been so much better!!! Skip it under all costs! Watch paint dry if you have to. Just don't waste your time.
My Octopus Teacher (2020)
a privileged white man in an apartheid villa
Not sure when this movie was made, but this is how rich people all over the world manage to keep themselves sane during the COVID pandemic. From the luxury of their isolated seaside mansions. Even more so, in the apartheid country of South Africa. This ego-maniac dude showed off his chest and nipples more than his wife ever have seen in her lifetime. The movie was clearly about him and that's why it continued long after we stop seeing the octopus. His clearly meaningless life found some short of interest, which he then had to exploit and make some dollars out of it. This is not a candid film as he pretends , like "oh i saw it and picked up my camera". He admits he is in the business and the production is obviously expensive and professional. Multiple cameras and all the rest. He is just another very wealthy, privileged white man presenting his "struggle" (which is valid) but not understanding that putting it out there is a bit trivial given that their issues are so minimal and without acknowledging it. At any point he admits his privilege of being on vacation while "working" and in a way he pains themselves as a martyr when he is clearly not one. I guess many wine moms will fall for this "hairy chest" though and his romantic soul. He even tried to cry but nothing came out. Also it was so slow and at least 5 times he said "and then the most amazing thing happened". Dude, decide, which one was the most amazing? Do not waste your time. There are countless even better marine documentaries out there
Death to 2020 (2020)
not remotely funny
The thing I hate the most about these centrists writers that have been bombarding us for decades with the same old tiring talking points, is how they once again, even during this so polarized year are choosing to go with the tired "both extreme left and extreme right are bad for society". It is not only dangerous but irresponsible. This is equivalent to what Trump is saying when during the Charlottesville protests "there are good people in both sides". I expected more from the "character" of Leslie Jones. This kind of rhetoric is why you can never have real progress. Cause you are ending always back in the Center, while the fascists are constantly pushing us further to the right.
Dick Johnson Is Dead (2020)
Elderly abuse
I wanted to watch this movie so much and I had the best of intentions. I always had a soft spot about elderly people, and having multiple family members with the disease, I felt like I could connect with the filmmaker's experience and feelings. I'm still shocked and mainly with all the praise that she received though. She clearly used and abused her father, who out of his love for her, let's say that he "agreed" on his torture. Anyone with a sane mind will tell you that people in this condition, the last thing they need, is all this adventures that this poor guy went through. People in this stage, have to have a very specific routine and anything out of that is extremely frustrating and confusing to them. This lady dragged her poor dad through hell and more. She abandoned him in a stranger's house on Halloween so that she goes trick and treat, only to find him later panicking, crying and confused in a state of shock. She left him to go on a trip to Israel, she put him again and again in stressful fake death situations, she even filmed his heart attack in the ambulance for God's sake! I can see an opportunist when I see one and this woman can say she loves her dad deeply, but that doesn't mean she didn't exploit his illness. She pretends to say "oh I'm a documentarist cause I prefer real life, that is more fascinating than fiction". Well, I didn't see any real life there. I didn't see how hard it is to actually have this boring routine that these people need, how they defecate out of the toilet, how they make their loved ones suffer (unintentionally of course). All I saw, was a privileged rich Manhattan woman, that through her connections and her high-funding, was able to show off how woke she is in her West Village million dollar apartment (that by the way, she pretended to be a one bedroom, when in fact it's a 2). But as I said earlier, she can do whatever she wants, it's her movie, her funds, her dad. What saddened me the most, is the fact that this self-feeding micro-cosmos of rich "art" elite, keeps indulging and praising each other. I'm shocked she got so many positive reviews and there was not a single person to expose everything that is crystal clear through the whole "documentary". It's sad, that in the end of the day, the world still thinks and cares less about the elderly and specially in a country like the U.S. where the examples are even worse and more harsh. And there's total silence about it. No one is speaking up, no one defends them. Meanwhile if things were reversed and she has put her sick child in a precarious situation, everyone would have gone mental and rightfully so.
I could continue reviewing the general motive of the movie for much longer but I'm only gonna comment on those fake death scenes that made no sense overall. For her, I get that she thought it was a very smart, and cheeky game but in the end it didn't connect with anything. She pulled off all these elaborate and expensive scenes, only to dissolve the illusion literally a second later, by having the making-off of those scenes. So I'm seating there , saying "so all this for what?". And the answer never comes.
Ford v Ferrari (2019)
It's a joke
This movie deserves no awards, no nominations, no high ratings. Waste of time. Probably they paid a loooooot in promotion. Comes to show you AGAIN to not trust critics. Embarrassing at least. I didn't know the story and during the entire movie I was wispering "America First"... Hahahaha. After the end I ended up saying "... and Second and Third". MAGA people will love it
