Keep Breathing (2022)
Give this short series a chance
Look, I know this is nothing we've never seen before, or imagined, or even played in a video game. It's a tired idea. I get it.
But somehow this series managed to capture my attention and I was completely hooked. I had to get to the end and so, i binged it. Why? Now that's a good question.
Maybe it's Melissa Barrera, whose presence on screen I always found compelling and relatable. Maybe it's the fact that this spins the survival cliche in a whole new way, mixing past and present and at times even blurring the lines between them.
Maybe it's that Liv's story is so relatable and adaptable to a lot of the collective wounds we share as humans.
I found this limited series to be a clever, intriguing and even empowering watch from beginning to end. The survival aspects are well thought-out and realistic. If you're a fan of the survival genre, you should definitely give this a try.
Days Gone (2019)
Hot mess (playing on PS4 pro)
Close to a year after release, this game is sadly still too much of a mixed bag for me to consider it good. The many (many) many glitches are still present and can render the game unplayable at times, making it a very frustrating experience. Believe me there are some amazing mechanics in this game, especially on the survival side, that can really make the game shine. But sadly, every time you start getting lost in its loot-repair-look-for-gas system, the game goes out of it's way to remind you that it was rushed through development and is at it's core broken and dated. A loading for every (pre-rendered) cinematic in a game where you'll watch a couple every hour is already irritating, but the game also only has two different times of day to alternate between and forces you to alternate between them depending on the mission you're playing, so add another loading before or after watching a cinematic (that had to load too!). The dialog is god-awful and glitchy. Many times my character started screaming in the middle of infiltrating a camp, as if he was on his bike riding. I had boozer repeat the same line three times because i made the mistake of saving my game, and once i was forced to look at all the interactions i had missed by not going to his camp for a while... one after the other. So two pre-rendered cinematics plus one in game. I'm sorry Bend Studios, that is not how you make a game.
