Reacher (2022)
Pleasantly surprised
I have to admit that I saw part of one of the movies and wasn't in to it/them so when my husband said he wanted to check an episode out, I wasn't thrilled. No biggie, I can play a game on my phone while it's on
Suddenly Episode 1 was over and I found myself asking when the next episode comes out and was elated to learn the whole season dropped. WOOHOO!
The characters are intriguing... mysterious, irritating, funny, acting like tough guys, acting like pansies lol Each person is interesting in their own right. I really liked how they gave us character exposition in an organic and refreshing way to where it didn't seem like they did at all.
We stopped after the first episode long enough for my husband to use the bathroom while I looked this up. I decided to write a review while I'm here because I'm that invested already. I'll come back after the season is done to update if my first impression stayed true.
Tall Girl (2019)
It had potential
Everyone, only exceptions being her two best friends, taunt Jodi for her height all day every day. She's not the new girl or someone they haven't seen before so it's ridiculous she's treated like a freak of nature on a constant basis DAILY, even by her own family! I was expecting her to be closer to 7 feet tall under the circumstances but she's 6'1? Seriously?
Her dad considered having her hormones suppressed while she was very young even though one of the side effects is infertility. That's too far which sets the pace of how ridiculous she's treated because of her height when it's not even that tall.
They seemed to go out of their way to cast short people because she's way taller than everyone, guys included, at only 6'1. They must not have any basketball teams at her school or her city/town for that matter.
It would have been more relatable or realistic if she was just the tallest girl, which is what I was expecting. Her shoe size and all that isn't that hard to accommodate these days because of internet shopping too. They made it seem impossible but it would have been more believable if her frustration was because she can only order from online and not off the rack but no. They implied she can't get anything anywhere since she wears a 13 in men's. My oldest wears a 15 and I could get him shoes even at Walmart so I'm confused lol
Her friend loves her the way that she is and she overlooks that because he's shorter than her (and most people). How ironic is it that she judges him for his height when she hates that she is?
They miss the mark so many times and ways. It's frustrating because it had potential. Her families obsession with beauty and what THEY deem normal was gross and unnecessary. I cringed at most of what they said and did, ugh.
Girlboss (2017)
Annoying Lead
I'm all for a comeuppance type story but Sophia is ridiculous. She's over the top annoying, selfish, rude and many more negative adjectives.
It's not cute, charming or funny to rip people off and/or flat out steal. She's incredibly rude at her shoe store job... including eating someone else's food. Instead of being apologetic because she's hungry she had an "I dare you to say anything" type of attitude. Even as her boss calls her on it, she tries to turn it around on the boss and acts like a pain in the a$$ telling her to prove it's hers. All you needed to know was it wasn't yours Sophia! Again, not funny or "edgy", it's infuriating.
Sophia then continues blatantly stealing throughout her day all while acting like the store owners or security are in the wrong. She's so "in your face" with attitude and entitlement that I was literally hoping she would fail or at least be humbled. Not possible when she thinks the world revolves around her.
I really hope the writers thought they were being edgy and failed instead of the real Sophia being anything like this version. I'd be so embarrassed if this was me or my children; anyone I know.
The way she handles the wedding dress fiasco in episode 3 (I think?) is a good example of how self centered she is. You're supposed to feel sorry for her but no... everyone else involved has it worse but THAT doesn't matter, only HER inconveniences matter. Her problems are a direct result of poor planning and bad choices, which affects those around her too but only Sophia's feelings matter. They literally count down the seconds until the wedding STARTS as her deadline to deliver the wedding dress but I'm pretty sure it should be there BEFORE it has started.
Episode 4 begins with her being even more rude to her only friend. The friend literally tells her "Sophia, I'm telling you I care about this" and Sophia responds by saying "and I'm telling you I think you're stupid for caring about it". WTH?? Girl, bye!
Soooo frustrating ugh!
FML (2016)
Way better than expected
Previews looked cheesy but I actually laughed more than expected. I might be bias since in in my early 40's so I see it from Jasons perspective a little better than most who are watching probably. It's not a waste of time at least.
