Super (2010)
Funny, Sad and quite depressing
Supposed to funny but is actually quite depressing. Depressing to see where Kevin Bacon, Nathen Fillion, Michael Rooker and even Liv Tyler's careers have ended.
There is about 4 chuckles worth of laughs in this comedy and some good violence, but the stand out point to me is the "indie" crap that Juno (that wasn't that good anyway) has spawned, gets worse by the day. Ellen Page is quite honestly a pawn to make the film "sell" because of the aforementioned Juno, Inception and even Whip It she has become box office money but her "comedy" timing is terrible and the 2 (yes 2) scenes where she attempts to be sexy is quite frankly not sexy at all.
The film is a strange one it goes for the comic book geek in us all, with a few names thrown in to entice the "non believers" but ends up disappointing
August Underground (2001)
Please don't
Worst pile of BS ever put to celluloid but given the production value they probably skipped on that. I just spent 1 hour and 34 mins of my dire life watching the most diabolical crime against film (and I've watched some awful films in my time) I wanted to punch my own face until con caved having wasted my time on this utter pile of feaces. I actually hate myself for watching it, but not as much as I hate the financier, "actors", "directors" of this puke. Also I hope that everyone involved in this ends up parking cars and pumping gas bump bump bump do you know the way to St Jose.
Utter, utter s**t don't bother
Best Worst Movie (2009)
Funny, Sad and quite depressing
I saw Troll 2 years and years ago with my brother and we loved it (we were 10 and 8) then again about 3 years ago with a group of friends and we hated it, and when I checked I was not surprised that it is known as the worst film ever. So when I heard of a documentary about it, I sought out a copy and eagerly watched it, and I wasn't disappointed. Directed by the child "star" we meet the cast, director, writer, fans and super fans, which all range from comical, embarrassing, mentally unstable, deluded, egotistical and down right stupid. There are some really great moments in this film, especially when the father in the film realises the cult status of said movie and grabs his "fame" tightly with both hands clearly relishing from the devotion the 300 + fans in attendance at a special screening give him, only to come crashing down when he gets to wrapped up in it and believes himself/itself to be bigger than he/it is. The parts when they interview 3 of the "stars", the mother, the grandfather and the store owner, are the most compelling and depressing, showing 2 of them to be extremely mentally unwell and the other a sad lonely old man surrounded by his own junk. But Oscar for most deluded has to go to the "director" some Italian idiot who believes that he has made a masterpiece, and his writer wife who refers to it as a social statement about vegetarianism.
It is a great little doc with some standout moments, The Birmingham NEC memorabilia fair and Margot Prey recreating the noise her neighbours make, to a genuinely uncomfortable director and actor being the most. What starts out a homage/tongue in cheek look at the "worst movie ever" ends up being a sad and moving experience. Highly recommended
The Poughkeepsie Tapes (2007)
I don't know why but it did.
Strange one this. I've seen many a "disturbing" film and consider myself to be immune from the effects from such films, however this one was different. By no means is it a good film, it's quite slow and boring in places, the acting is truly awful (apart from the red head) The killer is so diabolically evil, it's stupid (he's bordering on pantomime villain), the violence is over the top and mainly unseen but when it is, it is really bad make up/FX and so unbelievable it made me laugh, also it's a little to long. But something about the sub plot and it's images made me feel very uneasy and stayed with me days after, in fact on the night after watching it alone (my wife refuses to watch "crap like that" as she says) I couldn't sleep until I left the landing light on and did so laughing as knew how stupid it was.
Only watch if you really want to but let me recommend Lake Mungo instead.
