The Flash: What's Past Is Prologue (2018)
Flash 100th is the best of the series!
If you're a die hard Flash fan like myself, this is an absolute must see! Directed by Tom Cavanagh (Wells, Reverse Flash, etc.) Barry and Nora go back in time to collect items to destroy Cicada. Along the way, us as fans get to relive some key moments in the shows history. The best part is the father - daughter team encounter and are forced to briefly work with none other than the Flashes arch nemesis - Eobard Thawne AKA Reverse Flash! That's right kids, Reverse Flash is back! Seems fitting that actor Tom Cavanagh directed this episode and his past character plays a huge part. So if you're ready to read spoilers, Here's how it goes:
1. The duo needs a shard of metal off of Savitars suit from final battle at the end of season 3. We also see the return of the Time Wraiths (sinister enforcers of the Speed Force).
2. Jump to Season 2 "Versus Zoom" to grab the Speed Force transmitter, which Zoom used to steal Barry's speed and was left on the lab table.
This is where things start to get messy. Zoom returns to the Cortex and chases Present-Barry and Nora back into the Speed Force, with a Time Wraith right on their tail. The team just barely ends up getting away, jumping out of the speed force into the wrong time. They end up in Season 2's "Flash Back" but Barry ends up dropping the transmitter, breaking it in the process. Nora suggests to ask for help from, you guessed it, Thawne. Although Barry is completely against it and believes he wont do it, it's their only option.
Next scene starts with the duo phasing into the time vault where we see Thawne (Wells at this point) and Barry from season 2 unconscious and tied to a chair. This is easily the best scene of the episode in my opinion because the banter from Wells is met with Barry's anger and you can feel the hatred that Barry has for Thawne.
Thawne soon realizes that since present Barry is there, he wont be able to go home without helping Barry and the playfulness banter comes to an abrupt halt from Thawne. So in turn, Thawne agrees to fix the transmitter which sends Barry and Nora to their final time jump:
3. Appropriately we end up where it all began - the night of the partical accelerator explosion.
Barry and Nora head to the time vault to wait for the explosion but while in the vault, Nora becomes fascinated with the Reverse Flash suit. Barry then divulges the truth about why he despises Thawne which is the fact that Thawne killed Barry's mother and there is no way to ever change it no matter what he does.
As Thawne (Wells to the rest of the world) turns on the accelerator, we are treated with a montage presenting all the most significant events that happened during the explosion. Going back to the beginning seems fitting at this time and it shows the audience that everything, good and bad, stems from this one massive event. Great stuff.
With the Savitar shard supercharged with dark matter, Barry phases it into a pillar at the hospital and heads back to the present to take down Cicada, or so he thinks...
As Team Flash provokes Cicada, they're dagger dampener turns out to useless. The team has Cisco breach it to outer space but little does the team know, Cicadas control of the dagger REACHES SPACE! WHO KNEW?! Definitely not Team Flash. Cicada regains possession of the dagger and it's looking as if Team Flash is in trouble until we finally get the return of Killer Frost thanks to the dark matter. Frost forces Cicada to...you guessed it - ESCAPE! Being Cicada is the main villain of the season, there was no way Team Flash were gonna catch him this early on.
Fast forward a bit and we see Nora in the time vault scanning hand written Speed Force coded notes and uploading them to Gideon. She starts to send a message but then stops and decides shes going to deliver it herself, in person. She then jumps to 2048, Iron Heights Prison where we see the silhouette of someone in a cell. The man then walks forward into the light and its revealed to be...REVERSE FLASH! Nora tells Thawne "We have a lot to talk about."
Now we know who gave Nora the idea to interfere on the night of the Enlightenment and who taught her how to use her speed. We also know why, in this episode, she was willing to share details with Past-Thawne and even ask for his help in the first place - because she has a secret relationship with future Thawne! The plot thickens fans!
Finally, the ending sets up the epic crossover "Elseworlds" where we get to see the debut of Gotham, the Bat Signal, several conversations about Batman and Bruce Wayne, and the debut of Batwoman!
Absolutely amazing episode. In my opinion, the best one of the entire series. Bringing back Reverse Flash and integrating him within the timeline has peaked my interest in this season where as before this episode, I was kind of losing interest. Having Flashes arch enemy return to what it looks like will be an important role was the perfect plot for the shows 100th episode.
Point Break (2015)
Unnecessary Reboot
So I just watched this movie on HBO Go because I initially wanted to see it but after I heard how bad it did in the theaters, I changed my mind. Since HBO was promoting it so much on HBO go I decided to give it a shot.
I wanna start off saying that when it comes to reboots I tend to do comparisons to originals which I shouldn't because it's supposed to be different but this one was completely unnecessary. The original is a classic in my book. Great story line, great cast. In this one, the whole core of the movie is changed. Bodhi and his crew are chasing to complete 8 tasks of nature to achieve complete nirvana. OK, I'm with that. Johnny Utah is now a motocross legend instead of a star quarterback. Fine, I can deal with that. But AT LEAST make the story the same! They completely slaughtered this movie.
The only reason I give it a 4/10 is because some of the actions scenes are cool. Other than that, the movie has 0 substance.
There is no love story between Utah and the new girl named Somsara? There is no relationship between Utah and Pappas (his partner?) and when members of Bodhi's crew die off, no one cares.
In my opinion, not worth your time to watch. The storyline is boring, the characters are bland and they should've left the original be.
A Tribute to Ryan Dunn (2011)
Heartfelt Documentary
This documentary made me want to be Ryan Dunns friend. Since I was younger, I pretty much grew up on Jackass and Dunn was always my favorite. This is just a perfect portrayal of his life, his legacy and just flat out how cool he was. It covers his whole life and contains interviews with everyone that knew him. Footage starts from when him and Bam were kids and they just never stopped. Most footage is never before seen or home video. It's a real look on how Ryan Dunn was as a person and not a persona. If you are a Jackass fan, you will love this documentary. It literally brought tears to my eyes. R.I.P. Ryan Dunn - There is now a void in the Jackass family that could never be filled. You lived the phrase "Live fast, die young."
