True Detective (2014)
So much for the suspension of disbelief...
Don't waste your time. Ruined a perfectly good Beatles song. Ridiculous dependence on overly throaty, breathy vocals. Surprised Jodie Foster signed on to this, she is way better than this. The acting was good, as good as possible considering a disappointingly formulaic (and cheesy) script. This attempt really diminished the value of the True Detective franchise. In past seasons, the series seems to have prided itself on actual character development, compelling dialogue, and a reasonably believable screenplay. Unfortunately, it seems someone in the front office of HBO/Max said, "...ehhh..good enough."
Six Minutes to Midnight (2020)
Don't waste your time
A pathetic effort. To say it is ridiculously predictable and formulated is being kind. Viewers who like WW II era thrillers deserve much better. The sets and cinematography are the only thing this miscarriage has going fir it.
Shameless: Father Frank, Full of Grace (2021)
Shameless finale plenty Shameful
One of the most pathetic abdications from what was once a great series. Just pure, lazy, apathy on the part of the production management. Cast did the best they could with a real POS script.
Peaky Blinders: The Company (2017)
Pretty great show, except...
As big a fan as I am of the show, the writing, the acting, the sets, etc...and also being a fan of Adrien Brody: the whole Luca Changretta character really is almost insulting to Robert De Niro and his portrayal of young Vito Corleone in Godfather Part II. Doesn't even bother to try and not look like a cheap imitation, right down to the toothpick, the mumbling, etc. etc. Makes it really hard to take his scenes seriously, and continue to suspend disbelief. Very incongruent, considering how well everything else is done...
