then on to the cinema days of my adolescence where fellow students would bunk of school to smoke or drink..I went to the cheap afternoon showings in the local cinema
then the introduction of dvds and the rise of the multiplex plastic cinemas led to my eventual adoption of all thing home cinema..
out side of that I travel the world and Australia is my favorite destination

The Shannara Chronicles (2016)
Kevin Sorbo, Actor: Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. -Thats the level this series is at
I was really looking forward to this as I've read all the series including the word and the void series which eventually crosses over and so I had major high hopes for this and a possible future word/void spin off, but In all honesty the only reason I will persevere with it is because I do love the source material but all I get from it at the moment is- Im watching a legendary journeys episode..the CGI and acting ..is that (bad/corny/almost jokey)level. There are reveals and plot points given away almost immediately with out much concern for adding real depth and you'd be forgiven for thinking it was based on a short story so slightly are the characters written. I'm not sure why they would attempt this story with the obvious budget restraints they must have had and why they made certain choices in showing certain 'ancient' remnants when knowing the time span could not have possibly survived intact was a huge let down and a massive reveal that for me spoils a lot of the story's more fascinating plot-lines later..
Haunt (2013)
wow what an effective little ghost story...
firstly, there's no great complicated story line here but what there is ,is a great little spooky movie with a very very dark vein . I enjoyed the acting and the performances from all the players..in fact if anything id liked to have seen more screen time from the rest of the family.. I almost get the feeling this is part of a further story arc the way its played out.
Ever had a cream bun just when you fancied one well this movie is kinda like that...its not high cuisine but it is perfect if you are looking for exactly this kind of film. I personally loved the ending...there's another film that used the same idea which I wont mention as it would tip the films ending off... but I liked it.
simple effective effects and storyline combined with subtle performances give this movie a much higher quality feel to it than it probably looked on paper. great film with a surprisingly PG rating given the great scary atmosphere and context of the story line.. just shows you don't need nudity and explicit gore shots to make a cool little film especially one with such a twisted ending lol
Open Grave (2013)
Outstanding film...contains possible spoiler
One of those movies going in you know nothing of...expect nothing and then are confronted with some thing special.. Maby because the horror market is saturated with amnesia related films and hostel/saw like set ups where you know before the first few frames that there's mischief afoot its refreshing when you have all of it just turned upside down.... there's another genre here but Im not gonna spoil it... The actors are great (infact some VERY good actors indeed)I loved each of them and each played their parts well..the setting is fantastic..like the forest of cannibal ferox meets the mansion of the game Resident evil.. I wasn't expecting anything from this..so I think I got everything I look for in a Film...this film really had me hooked from that opening scene
highly recommended
The Lords of Salem (2012)
childish imagery and poorly realised
the only thing that worked in this movie was the throw back feel to early satanic horrors of the 70's which the film created wonderfully in the beginning 30 or so Min's.
this atmosphere continued through out the movie but- this is when it all goes wrong....you are jarred out of the films presence by some of the saddest and laughable attempts at surreal and religious imagery that it almost defies description at how badly it is handled...
from the rubber vegetable inspired (wait till you see it..sigh)demonic forces or cabbage patch children scary entity to the ''sacrilegious'' imaginings realised on screen as if it was put there by a 14 year old frustrated virgin death metal fan..with as little depth and understanding as that implies
this was an awful film..there are good to great genre actors in this film..but unfortunately they only serve to show up the films flaws all the more acutely.. some are are so underutilised it amounts to really only a poor cameo appearance of no substance whats so ever
some are good in their roles but the roles them selves are vacuous and serve to push the story forward while seemingly patching the plot holes of which their are so many your head will hurt.. this is why I almost feel that the more childish psychedelic surrealism in the latter half of the film was edited in to cover up the fact the films story line had no cohesion
in short ..a waste of every bodies time...including mine
Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011)
last of the worst trilogy of films ever
(contains some spoilers) This has to be the very worst three films that has had millions spent on its budget and a star cast to boot. That the effects are quite brilliant makes this film even more terrible because it has no excuse to be this poor.
the end result is a film that has a million dollar shine on a twenty dollar bin, expensive looking garbage..
The change of actress to include yet another phenomenal intelligent and in this case high end professional to fall for our not so humble and actually rather disagreeable unemployed and self entitled idiot defies more logic and takes a great suspension of belief than the whole NASA was set up to investigate transformer activity on the moon..
The decepticons were a joke apart from one to whom you'd have thought would have been the leader of the decepticons rather than the trashed one they had, who as some one else said did zero till the end
and PLEASE the addition of Spock's quote as an attempt to please fan boys of the genre should have embarrassed Leonard Nimoy sufficiently to refuse doing it..
Avoid all three..I should have but just had to see the effects..they are not good enough to justify the travesty of all three films
La herencia Valdemar II: La sombra prohibida (2010)
woeful compared to part one
Compared to the wonderful La herencia Valdemar, this is a bit of a dogs dinner..I happened to be looking forward to this direct continuation of the first film and was left very disappointed by it..
The story of the Hp Lovecraft Call of .. mixed with two other story's I believe is really so badly edited and cut that you are absolutely left at a loss as to why you should care for any of the characters and be interested in what comes next..as usually this entails another merging of characters story lines which serve only to confuse rather than enlighten..
the first film is a brilliant piece and one I savored..this is like a poor desert follow up to a master chef meal
