The Proposal (2009)
Love. Love. Love!
I want to start out by first saying that I ADORE everyone in this cast. I can't even think of a better cast. Starting from Ryan Reynolds all the way down to whoever plays the immigration guy. Brilliant.
I personally like rom-coms. I do not have a problem with them because, to me, they're still better than extra=cheesy slasher films. With that said, I know how to spot a good romantic comedy really well. Let me tell you, this is one of them. I laughed every time they wanted someone to, I gasped every time they wanted it, and I sighed every time they wanted it.
Bullock and Reynolds have hilarious and wonderful chemistry, both when they hate each other and when they love each other. They play off one another to make it so believable even though the plot isn't.
Let's take a moment to talk about my favorite part, the side characters. First, there's the wonderfully sweet and charming Mary Steenburgen playing the mom. Love her! Then, there's the dad. Him and Reynolds have issues, and I love the way they play that out. Malin Ackerman is so charming, as usual playing the ex girlfriend. There's Ramon, the town.... everything.... So funny. And last, the one and only, Betty White. She was so adorable and the scene with her and Bullock is to die for. Roll on the floor funny.
I don't understand how anyone could hate this movie. Definitely one of my favorites!
The Invention of Lying (2009)
Eh, not thrilled.
I didn't hate this movie, but I thought it was extremely overrated. Ricky Gervais's character was not likable and the story fell flat for a long time. I was bored for a lot of the movie and didn't really laugh at all. I snickered a couple times, but no actual laughing occurred. Jennifer Garner is likable, as usual. I liked Rob Lowe's character, even though he was the villain. He was just so much more interesting than Gervais's character. I don't have a huge liking for Gervais anyway, it seems that everything I've seen of him I don't like very much. I just don't like his humor. It is very dry, sarcastic, and sometimes flat out rude. Also, I never really got why Jennifer and him loved each other so much.
I don't regret seeing this movie, but I would not see it again unless forced and I would never recommend it. If you love Ricky Gervais and his type of humor, then go for it. But don't yell at me for it. I told you not to.
Bad Teacher (2011)
Bad Teacher, Bad Movie.
I was so excited to see this movie. Justin Timberlake, Cameron Diaz, and Jason Segel? Sounds like a dream team to me. Except that NONE of the characters had any sort of chemistry with one another. The dry humping scene with Diaz and Timberlake; awkward and way too long. The movie is supposed to be graphic, but it could have been done in smarter ways. They tried too many jokes, hoping one of them would stick. And only a few did.
A lot of the problems rely within the characters. Not a lot of them are likable or relateable. Diaz has no redeeming qualities other than being a gold digger, selfish, and rude. Timberlake is alright, but I was extremely disappointed in him. He is so funny in anything he does on Saturday Night Live, and he was really good in Social Network. So what happened?! He was kind of irritating in some of the scenes for being kind of boring and just nerdy, nothing else. We'll have to see what he can do in Friends With Benefits.
The Green Hornet (2011)
I liked it!
All of these reviews say how horrible the movie is, but I really enjoyed it. Keep in mind, though, that I never saw any of the TV show/read the comics, and I also don't like super hero movies very much. I think that's the reason I did like this movie. He's a completely new type of super hero to me. (Especially since his sidekick does most of the work.) I'm not usually a fan of Seth Rogen, but I thought he played the part well. He and Kato have some really funny moments. The villain has an insecurity about growing old and not being scary anymore, and I thought he was pretty funny. I thought the action scenes were cool and entertaining, I just don't know how great they are compared to others.
Biggest Low Point: Cameron Diaz, who I think is over-rated anyway. Her character was dull, flat, and I thought kind of snotty.
Biggest High Point: The chemistry between Britt and Kato. They become BFFs in a span of about 12 hours. Fun to witness.
Overall, not terrible. I enjoyed it and would watch it again. Bonus! James Franco makes an appearance. :)
Winnie the Pooh (2011)
The Most Adorable Movie
I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I was to see this movie. Winnie the Pooh has by far been the most important animated character in my whole life. As a kid, I had a Winnie the Pooh chair that I would sit in and I've had countless Winnie the Pooh pajamas and stuffed animals. I saw the preview and started tearing up because it looked so cute and it reminded me that I'm growing up.
The movie was incredible. The animation, the voices, the story, and the good old Winnie the Pooh feeling, all mixed with the great songs and hilarious dialogue made this movie truly special. I walked out of the theater feeling sticky sweet like the "huny" Pooh loves so dearly. Truly my favorite Pooh movie.
MUST SEE!!!!
