Love Actually (2003)
I actually loved it
This film is really good. A nice barrel of laughs, I loved the bit where Hugh Grant made vague references to the Blairs. The characters are great, the British-ness shines through which is always great to see in a film. I dont consider this to be a film for one to deeply analyse and find faults with. I think of it as a nice British film thats a pleasure to watch, which is what films should be.
Along Came Polly (2004)
CLICHE
Cliche is the only word that springs to mind with this film. Throughout practically every part of the film, I was saying to myself "I've seen this dozens of times before." A very standard formula, which is funny in places, but is too predicable to properly enjoy.
Halloween H20: 20 Years Later (1998)
not good but not crap
I think people need to be a little more leniant with this film. Granted it is nowhere near as good as the first one, and one thing people dislike about it is that it is not set in Haddonfield. I think that this is not necessarily a terrible thing, as Jamie-Lee ran away so she wouldnt run away to the adjacent town would she? I think the opening of the film is it's strongest point. It's set in Illinois is a town that looks very similar to Haddonfield, and you see the familiar face of Marion Withington, which is nice. I lvoed the short playing of part of the theme as the shape pulled out of the driveway and drove away. They should have used the original recording of Donald Pleasence on the sam loomis voice over though.
I think the guy who played myers did well. In the first one, do you remember him being a huge beast of a guy? No, it was just a guy, which is what myers is. Chris Durand moved relatively well and I think people expect him to be George Wilbur or Don Shanks.
The mask changes were a bad idea, I think the one used at the start was the best as it seemed real, it didnt look like it had been made to fit his head.
I personally am glad that the storyline ignored H4-H6. Halloween 4 was ok, 5 wasnt really, and 6 just wrecked it. The whole idea of that 'thorn' business was nothing but silliness and should have been left out.
I am now saying this film was brilliant as it was not, I am simply trying to defend it where I think it did ok. LL Cool J and Busta Rhymes in Resurrection are just no-nos, but try to enjoy the film for what it is, a Halloween film, and lets just hope that 9 will be the last, and lets pray that its good!
