The Flash (2023)
The movie started with Michael Keaton
I really enjoyed this movie as a whole, but I felt like everything lagged on and on until Michael Keaton was on the screen. Such a caliber actor with a natural ability to play a character with so much depth as Batman. Sasha Calle was a badass playing Supergirl. I wish she had more opportunities to play her before now. Ezra Miller plays an okay Flash. He doesn't represent the character from the comics very well, but I know everyone is allowed to have their own interpretation. Sure he has his odd stuff happening personally, but I didn't let that interfere with me wanting to see this movie. I mean, Tom Cruise is the same way yet everyone LOVED his movie last year regardless. All in all, a great enjoyable movie that I think anyone would enjoy..especially when Michael Keaton shows up.
Top Gun: Maverick (2022)
Entertaining
I would definitely say this movie was fun to watch. The flight scenes were great, and the characters seemed to have good enough chemistry to make the scenes really enjoyable. I do feel based on the flow and story that it was 100% intended to be just an entertaining sequel, and not a possible Best Picture nominee. I bet even the ones who made the movie are a bit surprised on it's success. I grew up in the 80's, so don't get me wrong here. I'm always open to a modern continuation of movies or tv shows from my childhood. I don't think it's the best movie I've seen, and I do feel like it's a bit overhyped (A 2nd release in theaters? Really?). I'm glad people truly enjoyed this film and see it as a 10. I just personally don't feel like it's that amazing, but again, was definitely entertaining.
She-Hulk: Attorney at Law (2022)
Can't Finish For Now
So last night I sat down, ready to watch the latest episode of the newest Marvel show She Hulk AAL. When I opened the Disney app, I sighed, and simply said "ugh...I just can't do it". I'm a comic guy who likes most brands, and I've been very supportive of all of Marvel's new stuff. For some reason I can't get into this show, like I've literally been forcing myself to watch each episode. The "forcing myself", has mainly been about staying informed on the MCU. It's unfortunate because I was pretty interested in the She Hulk show idea, because besides knowing of her existence in the comics, I know pretty much nothing about her. I've read a lot of the reviews on here, both good and bad. I can see what they see on both sides. I think I'm going to try watching the rest when the season is finished, but ask around first to see if it is actually worth my time. Sorry Marvel, it's a hard watch. I seriously tried.
Lost in Space (1998)
Product of it's Time
I rewatched this movie recently to fulfill some nostalgia from watching it back when it first came out. I'm pretty sure I owned it on VHS also and watched it more than once. Now over 20 years later, I can say that I still enjoyed it. Yes, a lot of things are pretty dated. That's to be expected on most movies after 2 decades. I can understand why most wouldn't enjoy this movie, especially if this was your first time seeing it in our modern times. My point I was wanting to make is that this movie at the time was 100% a nostalgia fix for most of the generation that grew up during the 60's and 70's. Additionally there were A LOT of movies in the 90's that did the same exact thing. Some worked out and some didn't. I remember seeing this movie with my parents and at the time I was 16. I remember that we all enjoyed it too. The acting sure was on and off, but this movie wasn't going for an Oscar. I wasn't really into Friends as much as most, so seeing Matt LeBlanc being an action character didn't throw me off. The movie did a great job trying to incorporate the old with the new, by having previous people from the show and using lines from it, and trying to introduce new storylines as well. Hell, they weren't too far off on the timeline on when our planet might not be inhabitable, setting up the reason why they went to space in the first place (without being too preachy about it). Again, I get why most don't appreciate this movie and what they set out to accomplish by making it. I would just advise to try watching it with the perspective that it literally was a product of its time, and it was made to be just a fun film to enjoy.
Halo: Inheritance (2022)
Torture
My brother and I have been playing Halo since it's beginning. We have both loved the show and talk about each episode after it airs. This one was just torture to watch. Every minute I kept watching the time slip away waiting for it to be over. I kept watching it because I was hoping they would reveal something crucial. This never happened. I was also hoping maybe there might finally be one redeeming quality about Kwan Ha's character, this never happened. Frankly, I wish I would have read these reviews so I could get that time back.
Kwan Ha as a character is just plain awful. I felt this way since episode 1 and it's only gotten worse from there. When each episode would feature this storyline I would use that time to do something else. I feel like if they want longtime Halo fans to care about this character, they need to put her alongside the main one, Master Chief. Then after building her up, and to be honest make her not so whiny, bratty, and wimpy, give her an entire episode. Unlike the other characters of the show that everyone is more familiar with, Kwan Ha is brand new and making the worst first impression.
I know the whole season has been acted and written. I hope future seasons develop her character better and also make it where she is actually contributing toward something. Especially the main story! Or, the writers can kill her off. I'm fine with either.
Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)
I liked it
I'm a long time comic fan, especially for DC comics. I felt like the acting, story, casting, etc was spot on. The only thing I would change is wishing it could have been released on its original release date. It wasn't better than the first movie, but it was a decent movie on its own.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
Awesome!
Loved this movie! It satisfied the ending to the story, and also had some fun surprises that I wasn't expecting. I would go see it again and again. I've been a Star Wars fan since the beginning, and I'm glad Disney took over the franchise to bring the fans more exciting stories. Sure I had my own theories about this movie, but I wasn't on the writing team so who cares what I thought. I was happy with what they did. If anyone else has a problem with it go write your own Star Wars movie!
Gone with the Wind (1939)
Scarlett the Villain
So my wife and I watched this movie for the first time tonight because we like to watch classic movies together on New Years Eve. "Gone with the Wind" a top 10 movie of all time, where can you go wrong? The answer, Scarlett. This woman is awful! This character from start to finish causes problems for everyone and everything. She's obsessed with a man who doesn't want her, and hurts others just to get close to him. Men who loved her she used to get ahead, and even died for her and she didn't care. She was never strong in times of crises, and only survived because she found someone new to feel sorry for her. Her character portrayed the worst parts of our humanity, and I had to endure it being allowed for over 3 hours. I think it would have been acceptable still if some how she redeemed herself in the end, but instead she just went to the "somehow things will fix itself" quality and the story ends. So in the end, she was the villain of the story.
Best thing about this movie is the acting, and how the scenery stood against time. The story? I could have lived 3 hours better without it.
The Princess and the Frog (2009)
Too much filler
I liked the scenery through most of the movie. It was nice to see the classic hand drawn Disney movie vs the computer drawn we rely on now. Main problem was the story was a bit too much, and you couldn't really relate to the characters. Another thing I noticed was how forgettable the villain was in this movie. Hell, I just watched it and feel I need to google the villain's name again. I rate it a 6 because it's worth watching again in a few years, but no major Wow factor.
Into the Woods (2014)
Walked out!!
OK...so first of all I "did" know this was a musical, and "do" like musicals. I don't always go out of my way to watch them, but this one looked fun for the family and I to watch. Waste of my money, waste of my time, waste of acting talent, etc etc etc. The music was weird and didn't make any sense. Basically rhymes for the sake of making a rhyme. Johnny Depp seemed like he was trying to seduce Little Red Riding Hood by getting awkwardly close to her, the strange lyrics, and weird dancing. Plus the odd re-telling of how the girl got out of his stomach when the baker cut her open made it seem like they were on drugs when they wrote that scene. The only scene that was slightly enjoyable was the Agony song, mainly because it was hilarious whether it was meant to be or not. When the supposed ending came where everyone seemed pretty satisfied and then everything went down hill, my wife and I looked at each other with a "are you kidding me?" face. Things just got weirder and weirder, and once the prince started making out with the bakers wife we pretty much threw in the towel on the movie as a whole. My 7 year old daughter even recognized how odd things were getting and told her Mom how weird this movie was. We just left with the disgusted feeling that this movie actually exists in this world, and the fact that people rate a PG movie so high when it involves so many immoral things in one. Shame on you Disney. I hope this was a huge loss.
