Halloween III: Season of the Witch (1982)
Witty...Original...Very Haunting Indeed!
The third instalment of the Halloween series is ": Season of the Witch". It is, although nothing to do with the rest of the series, one of the best instalments of the Holloween genre. Instead of being your usual "Michael Myers gets bored and decides to go on a killing spree", it is a more original story (thank god!) about a sinister and apparently mentally disturbed Irish Halloween mask maker called Conal Cochran (Dan O'Herlihy). After Dan Challis (Tom Atkins), a doctor in a Californian hospital, witnesses the gruesome murder of a young girls father, the young girl Ellie (Stacey Nelkin) and Challis team up to find the sinister meaning of her fathers death: only to uncover a truly horrifying and disturbing plan... What follows is the disturbing and freaky following of Ellie and Dan's entanglement and escape from a sinister evil....
The Shining (1980)
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeere's Johnny!!!
Well what can i say? This film was simply PERFECT! the first time a watched it, i wasn't that sure, but after watching it a few times, it REALLY grew on me. Nicholson (and Duvall's) truly incredible performances were amazing, and the suspense kills you! Although it is a little slow in unravelling the terror, your time waiting really pays off. From the second you hear that haunting phrase "Heeeere's Johnny" you are instantly warped into the mind of a crazed killer!!! I would certainly recommend this film to EVERYone who is a fan of Nicholson, Duvall or Kubrick, or even just wants a REALLY good scare!! Well done Stanley!!!!!
Lloyd (2001)
Very touching...in an odd kind of way!
I first saw this film when it was on HBO, and since then, I have bought it on DVD so i can watch it whenever i want. Anyway, it is a movie about this oddball in a class of midde-aged kids, who wants to go out with this girl called Tracy. Anyway, the story focuses on Lloyd, and how he keeps doing these inept attemps at winning Tracy's heart. It's a sweet story with a valuable lesson that is "Be thankfull for who you are". Definately worth a look. 7.5/10
Duplicates (1992)
Actually Quite Good
I was bought this film by my friend back in 2000. I really didn't know what to make of it at first. At first, the was that the opening credits rolled, it looked a little bit like an average, cheap TV movie, but I was wrong. The plot is pretty original, and the cast are very good. I really thought this movie was something above the others. There was something about the title and the acting, that made the film have a very sinister atmosphere. The only aspect that let it down were the crummy fight scenes, a five-year-old could have done a better job, but i still love it. I would give it 7.5/10
Toys (1992)
Simply Missunderstood
Why is it that a lot of people that review here always seem to say that this movie is rubbish? Okay, like others have said on the message board, it is a wierd film, but you can begin to like it. When i first saw the film, i thought it was strange, but i have begun to love it. Every time and every time it's on i like to watch it. It's an original story with a catchy plot and absolutly fantastic acting (Joan Cusack is the best - love her). My review: 8/10
Candyman (1992)
Bloody Scary!!
I first watched Candyman last Saturday night and by God it scared the bejesus out of me. Everything from the suspence and sudden impact to the distressing and gorey scene of Xander Berkeley's death at the end made me quiver with chills down my spine. After watching this film, i could not look in the mirror and turn out the light, and that is why it has become on eof my favourites - it does it's job, by sending the message across...to scare the living daylights out of you. The cast and supporting cast are all brilliant, even Carloyn Lowery, who only has a small part in the film. Tony Todd was great, but it was Virginia Madsen that stole the show. Great move, and i would highly recommend it to anyone who scares easy! WARNING: Not for the faint of heart!!
