Best for parents and adults with kids in their lives
27 August 2022
I'm not sure why this is rated so poorly outside of admitting it does have a particular audience - it's almost definitely not a movie that people without kids in their life will appreciate as much. I'm not a parent myself but I am an uncle and similar in age to the stars in this flick and I really connected with it. It's not the best movie I've ever seen, but it is entertaining with some laugh-out-loud moments and a story that among other life lessons reminds you that friends and family are important.

Synopsis: Kevin Hart plays a stay-at-home father that has long ago put aside his own ambitions to support his wife's career and help raise his children. He's become a stereotypical loving but possibly overly dedicated, PTA-style parent. His wife sees that he needs time to himself and while he doesn't want it at first, he takes her up on the offer and eventually decides to join the birthday party of a long-time friend he hasn't seen in years. Mark Wahlberg's crazy character, whose life is not going according to his ideal plan. That's when the shenanigans and life lessons begin.

How Did They Make This?
8 May 2020
Considering all the great actors, going in you would think it'd be, at the very least, a decent watch. But no, this movie is somehow so aggravating and annoying you want to yell at the actors and ask what in the world they were thinking.

I can usually find something I like about any movie. With this one there wasn't one thing. This is one of only a few movies I've ever rated under a 5 and it deserves it.

Great mix of romantic drama and off the wall comedy
1 May 2020
This is a fun show with great characters that you love more and more with each episode. Robbie Amell and Andy Allo, I believe in their first starring roles in a TV series, have great chemistry together. You cheer for things to go well and get upset when they don't. And all the side characters really add to this, Idiocracy-like, future world.

Just remember, it's definitely not a copy of The Office or Parks and Rec. It has a more dramatic connected storyline than those shows that really gets you involved, wanting the main characters to succeed (or fail).

The only downside? I wish there were more episodes. I can't wait for season 2!

Left Wondering Why...
3 January 2020
Why the creators would think up every dumb thing a person would do in such a situation and actually have them do it. Almost every character does something so mind boggling stupid and then it leads to obvious repercussions. I don't think I could count every one of them with my two hands. Come on IFC Midnight, you can do better.

Beautiful Performance by Robert Picardo
14 March 2019
I've really appreciated seeing Robert Picardo's Doctor grow as the series goes on.

He starts as a sarcastic and unempathetic hologram, unable to understand common human actions. As time goes on he begins to learn how to comfort his patients, learning human emotions and reasoning. Finally in this episode he learns what it all means to be human, to be a part of family.

Great For Karate Kid Fans From 80s and Latest Generation
3 May 2018
This series brought me back to my childhood and how much I loved the movies and characters growing up. It surprised how well the characters are brought up to date and now involve the younger generation. There's still a lot to be taught, and learned.

Beautiful Story Acted Well
22 December 2017
I really enjoyed this movie and how it humanized the actions of Billie Jean King, surprisingly however, Bobby Riggs turned out likable as well.

That said, this movie is more about Billie Jean King and her contribution not only to tennis but society as a whole. She was a driving force in equality and a great athlete. This movie tells part of that story of her life.

Before watching, the first review I read here complained that the movie focused on her sexuality too much. How is that so when that *is* her sexuality. Why are you complaining about an important part of her life? This movie is about much more than tennis.

Definitely Not as Good as The First
25 September 2017
My rating for the first: 7/10. This one I'd give 5.5/10 if I could.

Without going into the plot I feel like they tried too hard to get into character development while utilizing newer technologies. Neither of which help the story, actually making it worse.

I agree with others that it's not as scary, however, I still like it a bit because it's the same actors. That said I couldn't, in good standing, recommend it to someone else.

It is what it is
11 September 2015
The previous reviews for this movie seem out of place. This isn't a blockbuster action movie trying to maintain any sense of realism. In fact it's making fun of them a bit.

It's an obvious over-the-top play on science fiction action movies. From the lead character being some type of advanced humanoid species (See Alice from Resident Evil) with rather large assets to the criminals who couldn't hurt a thing if their life depended on it.

The actors know how far-fetched and insane the film is and seem to have had a lot of fun making it. No, they aren't great actors – their "ok" acting ability is what adds to this "b" movies character.

It's not meant to be taken seriously. It's absolutely ridiculous and that's what makes it fun. Remember that and you'll enjoy it for what it is.

Annabelle (I) (2014)

Not James Wan Quality
22 October 2014
Warning: Spoilers
** Spoiler is very small is second to last paragraph. **

Going into this I expected a bit of a quality falloff with James Wan's (Insidous, The Conjuring) usual cinematographer, John R. Leonetti, taking over directing duties. What I found isn't a horror movie - it's a boring one.

To me, one of the things that makes a horror movie great is its connection with its characters and how they react to their given circumstances. In Annabelle we really don't get much of either. Still sub-par, Annabelle Wallis does the best job of making us feel what she's going through. The rest of the characters are inserted in the movie as typical horror clichés - a priest and a book store owner who believes in the occult. The husband is inexplicably devoid of common sense and really does not come off as caring very much about what is happening.

The doll itself is another large problem with this movie. It's just not scary. I'm not sure what they could have done to make it better but there were a few times I caught myself giggling.

When the movie reached its climactic scene I wasn't surprised. It was flat and even threw in an antagonist from a prior movie (or at least looked like one) that could have been used much better.

The only reason I'd advise watching this movie is an example of what not to do. I can only hope that Leigh Whannell (Insidious 3) does a better job in the directors chair than was displayed here.
