The Co-Op (2021)
6/10
A reason not to shop late at night
19 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Co-op is a quirky film, which is well made.

The acting is good and believeable. I was somewhat bothered by the main character which was the point in my opinion.

Let's face it he's the reason nobody should shop late at night, but I loved the twist and special affects.

I really enjoyed the element of surprise to see who or what was going to emerge and take control and stop him straight in his tracks.

I felt the music also contributed greatly to creating the uncomfortable atmosphere that these characters were hostage to. Like the lead character it was greatly annoying and I too wanted it to stop and shut up.

Open Mind,Open Heart
6 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I debated whether to see the 2d or 3d. After conferring with some animation friends who said it didn't matter,I chose 2d.

I knew there were going to be some major differences, but I didn't go in expecting the original. I went in with an open mind. Interesting choice making Ariel's sisters all different ethnicities however if the filmmakers went to all the trouble, why didn't they capitalize by giving them more to say or do? Hailee made me smile, because she truly has an infectious smile. I know there's a controversy over the makeup artist chosen for Ursula- however I loved her makeup. Melissa's comedic timing is spot on. I actually wished there was more screen time with Ursula. I might have chosen a different approach to her singing but I never expected her to have a big powerful voice. I think that was a directorial error.

I got so caught up in the Magic of Melissa as an Octopus wondering what it must be like to experience that role. It simply seemed magical, just like the original film.

The most impactful thing from the movie is two fold. First the love of the fathers heart for his daughter was gentler and kinder. Second the message of showing what happens when we as females or anyone really give up our voices for any person or thing does not go well.

It's a great teaching moment for parents to capitalize on.

This version if you let it,will open your mind and heart. I felt true joy when I left the theater with all the little girls and boys who were beaming from ear to ear.

As an indie filmmaker I went wanting to study certain components of filmmaking, but got lost in all that was good in this film.

A Much Needed Film
23 August 2022
This film is a beautiful, raw, and real film that empowers everyone who sees it. While the film is told through breast cancer survivors, warriors, and their caregivers it is not just for those experiencing a breast cancer diagnosis, it is so much more.

I saw the film at the Awareness International Film Festival. It was a sold out theater.

I was there with a friend who had battled breast cancer, but like so many others watching the film I was deeply impacted and realized the film actually gives you courage to stand up and advocate for yourself and for those you love regardless of the battle or obstacle you might face. There are tears and deep emotions both on the screen and in the audience.

It's a very thought provoking film and the filmmaker made some bold decisions of saying what others have not and certainly have not shown before, but it was tasteful.

I hope more will see the film and share it with others.

It validates and empowers you in so many ways.

Inspiring,relevant and impactful
22 August 2022
Although this was made a few years back I found it to be relevant today.

This film should ve scree b ed in every school across the country. It is based on a true story. It deals with segregation which is the driving factor of why NBA legend Mike Glenn started his camps for deaf and hard of hearing teens because the friends he grew up with were in fact deaf. The film addresses numerous issues of rejection, anger, and bullying which are all issues most teens face on a regular bases. The film embraces the opportunity to teach life lessons in a beautiful and non threatening way. It's done while both deaf and hearing kids learn to work as a team. Many times it's the teens who are the teachers and not just the coaches while they work towards an opportunity of playing in the championship games.

Interesting plot twist of throwing girls into the camp for the first time adds another layer of obstacles and choices that the teens have to make. The biggest lesson that is approached with great compassion and a spirit of love is one about " Consequences for your actions". A lesson we all need to learn regardless of our age.

It's a beautiful and touching film, and I really like that teens with real hearing loss adeafness we're cast in this film.

Refreshing in so many ways
17 November 2021
It is quite refreshing to see "Real" people represented and cast in a film.

While not a true Hallmark film ,lifetime does seem to take a different approach as of late.

Personally the humor and approach I found to be refreshing.

Great Collaboration on This Fan Film.
30 January 2011
The cast and crew mostly made up of teens did a great job on this Halloween Fan film.Personally I think it turned out a little on the campy side of a horror film, which I liked.Eric and his crew did a great job pulling this off with no money and little time while working with a crew in another state via text and the internet and phone calls. The fact that there was no blood used allowed for a larger viewing audience. Many viewers at the Denver Premiere enjoyed the shot at the bottom of the stair case the best where Michael is coming after Laurie and Tommy. I feel like the Writer and Director did a good job in following the original idea of Carpenters original while putting their own spin on the story.

Overall great drama!
17 October 2008
Warning: Spoilers
Personally I felt the performances were outstanding. Alicia Keyes was wonderful,Queen was the pillar of strength, Hudson proved that her Oscar wasn't a fluke, but most importantly you are able to watch a cute and charming little girl actress give a phenomenal mature performance worthy of Oscar consideration. Dakota Fanning is a delight to watch.I wanted the story to end in a more positive manner.I believe that the end of the movie should have been when all the women are united on the steps with Lily, after her father leaves her behind. It is a very unique story and I believe many will be moved by these incredible talented women, whether black or white. It does have a few slow moments, but the film is intriguing in a way that made you desire to see more.Absolutely some of the most beautiful cinematic shots. Overall a great drama!

The Goal (2005)
10/10
Best Family Film wrought with Inspiration
26 September 2006
The Goal is a feel good movie. You come out cheering.Situations that seemed impossible were accomplished.Having heard Darla Rae's story behind the making of The Goal I can understand her ability to tell the story of The Goal.Because she too accomplished the impossible. It's wonderful to view a movie without horrible language, and constant sex. Here's a movie that all family members can enjoy together.I recommend it to everyone. If you miss it,you've missed a gem.To watch it touch lives first hand was amazing.People cried, and laughed, and cheered.I watched several young athletes who enjoyed the movie and asked some very interesting questions during a Q&A with Darla Rae and some of the actors.I felt that the music was spiritually uplifting, and genuinely touched my heart.I hope the director continues to make more family films. This film was shot on mini DVD tape in 2005.
