Cars 2 (2011)
Better than you'd think it would be.
The critics may have jumped the gun on this one. Cars 2 is just as fun as most other animated movies. Not as good as the rest of Pixar's output, but at least on the level of other animated films like Rio. I found it to be highly entertaining and exciting. Mater actually makes for a good protagonist and Larry the Cable Guy is well used in this movie. This film isn't exactly well- written, but it has a strong enough emotional arc and appealing visuals to make up for it. My only serious complaint was that "Git-R-Done" wasn't uttered once in this film. It may not be as good as Toy Story 3, but Cars 2 is certainly not a bad movie.
Johnny Test (2005)
No. Just no.
This is simply a bad example of animation. To sum it up, the stories are unoriginal, the characters are obnoxious and unsympathetic, and the entire affair is an unpleasant insult to the intelligence of the viewers. Even the musical score is annoying and an ear sore. If they had any brains, they would finally cancel this abomination of animation. In short, don't bother. Worse yet, Cartoon Network has somehow deluded themselves into thinking that this is their biggest hit. They therefore over-broadcast this crap to levels that we wish Disney would take Phineas and Ferb to. In fact, this is the anti-Christ of cartoons - the anti Phineas and Ferb, if you will. Long story short: don't even think of giving this crap a chance.
X: First Class (2011)
Everything the first four films should've been, and everything a summer film should be!
Okay, yes, looking back there are some continuity issues that are only further confounded by character appearances in films three and four. And Hugh Jackman's cameo may only work to further drive this point. But watching the film, I never once thought of these issues, because i was focused on the film in itself. I'd call it an alternate universe (Remember people, this is a COMIC BOOK movie! Such a thing is NOT unheard of!) even with the same Wolverine from the original films. Moving on from there, this film is simply perfect as a summer tent-pole. It has a balance between the scope of an epic and the closeness of a personal story, even with all its characters. Its action is exhilarating and even the non-action sequences are capable of drawing you in. The acting, writing, and direction have the right mix of humor, seriousness, and emotion. The world created here is a wonderful blend of James Bond and Marvel - though the latter's traditional prejudice is downplayed a bit. But it is X-Men nonetheless. Lastly, unlike all the other films, it is actually an endearing story - one that you can invest yourself in and is more than an attempt to make money. I would recommend this to everyone I know.
