Burning Palms (2010)
simply amazing!
I just watched burning palms about a week ago,and i was completely blown away! I Don't think I have truly enjoyed a moving this much in months. I found the flick in a discount bin at the local dollar store, and man was it worth it ! I won't go into plot details as that has already been discussed at length by other reviewers ,but i would like to say two things about this movie. First ,yes it was incredibly politically incorrect which was awesome..in the boring ,corporate controlled film world of modern hollywood no one has the courage to do anything even remotely risky..especially when it comes to sex...this movie goes there without remorse. It explores the hidden unseen worlds that exist in both our private lives and in the hidden recesses of our mind.. strange bizarre, weird, and unusual feeling are part of the human condition. These needs, interest, desires and thoughts existing in all of us..so maybe they are not so strange or bizarre after all. This movie explores the world of the hidden life, the underneath. Sure for dramatic effect some situations are taken to the extreme but even the extreme exist in the real world as well. Excellent study of the human creature! Lastly I have to make mention of Zoe Saldana's performance in this movie! Her sequence "maneater" was the best in the entire film, her acting was mind blowing! This was made very early in her career before she became a movie star, but this was not just her greatest performance, this one of THE greatest performances in the history of film..this girl can act..it was her true artistic moment where her performance went so far beyond the material that it elevated her into the realm of the true unbridled artist! Simply amazing ..i will never look at her the same way again as an actor..this was truly an oscar worthy performance..too bad this is such and obscure movie she will never be given the credit she deserves..and although she will go on to have an amazing "hollywood career" i don't know if she will ever get a chance to be this pure as an artist again. Bottom line see this film!
Last Christmas (2019)
awesome movie
This movie was awesome. There a few things worth mentioning about this film, first emilia clarke is gorgeous. In the film she is stunning, funny, warm vulnerable and very relatable. She is certainly one of the brightest rising young stars in the business . She is incredibly charismatic . The second thing i loved about this film was its overall theme about having and adventurous spirit and not only being open to all life has to offer ..but actually taking the time to enjoy it. This film is about love, love of self ,love of others, love of life . Awesome life affirming movie! Another thing the was awesome about this movie were the filming locations, it captures some parts of london that are not seen on film often if ever, great location work. Lastly the cinema photography
for this move was stunning..it was a visual treat for the eyes..and george michael's music made it a treat for the ears, the ending credit visuals and music were particularly wonderful. Bottom line awesome fun cute really warm movie....see it !
Fam (2019)
awesome show!!
Now this is a sitcom.. I love this show! I'm not a big TV guy, in fact a don't really watch much TV at all. However I will watch this show! This show is great. First I love the diversity, why did it take Hollywood so long to understand that audiences crave a variety of flavors and a variety of backgrounds. We need more interracial couples of TV. This show also has a nice naughty sense of humor and lot of innuendo. The actors are great and actually have a warm genuine chemistry, the two lead actors even look good together. Great show.. I hope the network gives it chance to grow, and it will. Awesome show never missed and episode yet and that says a lot coming from a guy who doesn't watch TV at all!
Bohemian Rhapsody (2018)
simply inspiring..
Wow, just wow. This was one of the greatest movie experiences i have ever had, and i am a 47 year old life long movie buff! First i was not a queen fan,i had heard a few queen songs over the years and did not even know who made them, so i went in knowing virtually nothing about the group. I just thought it might a and interesting way to past some time. at the local discount theater. It was minding blowing. I went into the theatre hoping to see a movie, and what i had was an experience ! I won't get into the production quality and the great acting in the film other reviewers have discussed that at length. but i will say is that the music was so great and the story so inspiring it was amazing! I am now and actual queen fan. Now i not only understand why queen is considered by many to be the greatest band of of all time
and why they gained the undying love of so many. This simply was one of the most inspiring huminist stories i had ever seen, and what has to be one of the most epic tales in entertainment history. The only other biopic a have ever seen that was this warm, human, epic, and inspiring was Dragon the bruce lee story. If this movie doesn't ,make you feel good on a certain level and inspire you bittersweet as it is, something is wrong. Awesome movie saw it 4 days ago and still can't stop thinking about it! See this film!
Wolf (1994)
amazing!!
I am a lifelong movie buff and werewolf/were beast fan and this movie simply blew me away! First like many fans of the genre i ran to the theater to see this movie when is came out, and i hated it! I mean i detested this movie it was just not what i was expecting. I was looking for a good old fashioned hungry, raging beast on the prowl, silver bullet wolf movie, and this was not it. For years i refused to watch this movie, and talked about how horrible it was. Now 24 years later i decided to watch the movie after getting it for free with a buy 2 get 1 free dvd deal, and i was stunned!
I now realize that 24 years ago as a 22 year old kid, i lacked the maturity and sophistication to understand the quality and sheer intelligence of this film! Looking at the film now i am in awe of awesome this film is. First the cinematography for this movie was stunning, simply stunning. This was one the the most visibly stunning movies i have ever seen. The somber and dreary nature of the protagonist world at times does not allow for a lot of bright beautiful sunny shots, but what is there is amazing. Michelle Pfeiffer has never been more stunning, and jacks inner beast was finally fully unleashed for the camera. Then their is the music. The music for this move is almost indescribable,it is both scary, romantic, and primal all at once, an you won't find many musical scores like that around. When i first heard the musical score i knew there was something "wild" about the vibe of the music and i knew immediately who composed it without even looking at the credits. It was the one and only Ennio Morricone . Only he could do this, Morricone uses a very wonderful trick, all of his composed songs have animal sounds embedded in them. Lions growling, wolf howling, and tigers growling, and multiple others predators on the prowl. It gives all his songs this powerful primal feel...and man he went to the max with this one! Awesome movie must see..and this from a former "wolf" hater that has been completely converted. Take this ride on the wild side !
Carol (2015)
stunning
Carol was amazing,i haven't written a review in many years but once i saw carol i had to write a review. This was one of the must beautiful and uplifting love stories i have even seen! It was also 1 of the most inspiring movies i have ever seen. Let me start by saying i am a 44 year old man...who went into the movie theater with little expectation..i just wanted to kill some time, but carol was more than i could have ever imagined. The music the cinematography, the writing was all stunning. Cate Blanchett has always been an actress that i liked but now she is one of favorites. She was both nurturing and fierce all at once..she was emotionally vulnerable and strong at the same time. This was some of the best acting i have ever seen, and Cate was gorgeous. Rooney Mara is a truly talented young woman, unlike many actors of her generation, she is a true artist.Fearless and willing to give all to her role. The sense of need and longing between the two women was overwhelming.I love stories about brave individuals who live for freedom..and live for happiness despite society's disapproval and judgement. This story of these two woman and there deep all consuming love..was just such a story. The best of it's kind i have ever seen! Carol and every relationship in her world, whether it was her relationship with her young lover..or her relationship with her best friend was based on deep love and affection, and society's disapproval or their "lifestyle" made those bonds all the more powerful. This movie was also the most inspiring movie i have ever seen, it was particularly powerful for me as I was once a young man with an interest in photography and it wasn't until someone else noticed the potential in me that i didn't see, that i was encouraged to pursue my true vocation. In this carol was also unparalleled, carol as a character, she recognized potential in Therese that even she did not realize was there, Carol helped her see it and a young male photo editor encouraged her as well. This was the ultimate movie about love, connection, freedom and pursuing your happiness and potential even when the world tells you shouldn't or can't.Many American movie viewers may not get it, they're simply not used to seeing this kind of subtle and heartfelt material that communicates with subtle touch and looks instead of having the characters emotions explained with words..very intelligent movie for thinking people. Lovely, positive, sensual, romantic ,inspiring, visually stunning, perfect.See this movie!
Treasure of the Amazon (1985)
ludicrous insolence!
Let me first say that i love trashy, low budget, gawdy movies and this ladies is gentlemen is a trash masterpiece! First the set up,various characters from a old hard ass,to a young scientist/explorer to several Brazilian bandios(and we cannot forget the German/nazi!!)set off on a quest to seek there fortune in the jungles of brazil. The movie starts off with the drunken hero sleeping on a boat, a ragged native tries to steal from the hero..who jumps up ,cuts off the natives finger, and yells" no one steals from me you sonofab@#ch" and rolls back over and goes to sleep again(and this is the hero!!!). A minute later the hero is sleeping a fellow adventurer walks over and starts urinating off the side of the boat and tells the hero "you might want to move i don't want any to splash on you"!! The hero "gringo" by the way proceeds to shoot almost every living creature he crosses path with..people,alligators,panthers...if it moves blast it! With lines like "we ain't F@#@$%G stopping for no alligators" this one is laugh out loud wild!! And then there was the German. This without question had to be the most unintentionally funny character ever seen on screen. The German was on a quest the find the gold/diamonds so he could restore the the dream of "the fuhrer" aided only by an attractive female native guide who was topless the entire movie(she also a warrior who can kick ass in a crunch). The German is so bad that every time anyone else sees him, they yell "it's the German" and run away! He and his native guide made the movie! I actually wanted them to come out on top! With lost young scientist who cry, a dumb as dirt southern bell with worlds worst accent, big massive female amazon warriors who get together for naked wrestling match orgies, and headhunters so eager to to collect heads that they literally run out of the trees and cut off every head they see..this one is a keeper...please somebody release this on DVD!!
Burial of the Rats (1995)
good movie!
i recently saw buriel of the rats and it was great! Yes it was low budget, and yes it featured a mostly unknown cast(with the exception of miss barbeau)but it was entertaining as hell! the story of course follows the tale of author bram stoker and his fathers run with a bunch of cult rat worshipping women..who leader was the pied pipers evil twin sister! The story line alone is worth a look! lecherous priest, scantly clad women, and a young hero looking to get laid...it doesn't get better than this. another fun masterpiece from the roger corman stable..check it out. you will not be disappointed , i wasn't..i just wish Hollywood made movies like this more often...take a lesson from the master himself rog corman!
Gwendoline (1984)
awesome
this will go down in memory as 1 of my absolute favorite movies of all time. It was sexy, cute and entertaining as hell. The 2 female leads(particularly zabou)were absolutely stunning..zabou is so sexy i could barely stand it! The music was great, the photography was very unique. This movie was just plain fun! Just jackelin is one of the best directors of all time...it's a shame he doesn't make movies anymore.the soft core erotic movies on late night cable are garbage(1 room sets.no story, and huge fake breast)the guys like just and zalman king know how to make truly erotic movies. They just don't make em like this anymore.Great stuff can't wait for some genius to release this on DVD,the sooner the better!
How to Get the Man's Foot Outta Your Ass (2003)
baaaaddddddaaaaassss
Man this one was awesome, the movie just blew me away!As a black man and a movie buff i always knew about melvin van peebles and his great contribution, not just to ethnic filmmakers but to all entertainment as a whole. This man was 1 of the pioneer who truly changed entertainment as we know it.Filmmakers of less talent and courage get credit and attention while a man of true importance gets ignored. This was one of the most inspirational movies i have ever seen(view from the top was another)if you have a dream,i don't care what it is, this movie will make you want to push to the max to achieve it!great movie check it french
Marquis de Sade (1996)
hilarious!!
This is 1 of the funniest movies i have ever seen! Ilike period movies particularly erotic periods pieces set in old world France. So i was thrilled to get a chance to see marquise de sade on cable late 1 night. I thought it might be a serious very dark look into the marquise world.Instead i was treated to a funny almost "feel good" movie. It was was playful filled with lots of eye candy, and perfectly cast.Janet gun has that unique combination of sex appeal and warmth, which is probably why she's 1 of my favorite actresses. What is wrong with Hollywood? This woman should be a big star but instead she relegated to roles in b movies.Nick Mancuso is pretty much in the same boat,he always delivers.Man did he deliver on this...his portrayal of the the marquise was so outrageous it was almost over the top...i laughed until i was sick..every other line in this one was a howler! This movie actually made the depraved aristocrat a likable guy! Yes it was low budget(real low) but it was worth every one of it's 90 minutes.Great movie...really fun!
Party Monster (2003)
good movie
I just saw party monster and i thought it was great.I must sat that i enjoy movies about decadence and wild indulgence, and this movie did not disappoint. It was a glimpse into a wild and decadent world of the young 80's club scene.Very dark, very gritty, very realistic.I also have to say that the casting was perfect. If someone told me macalauly culkin could play a role like this i would have laughed out loud, but he pulled it off! and clhoe sevigny was his perfect female counterpart for him! They both have very unusual personality's and they brought a very strange sort of decadent vibe to the role. The only one that didn't work in this movie was seth green he just wasn't right..his performance was terrible....great movie worth a watch!
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
amazing.....truly stunning!
First of all let me say that i am a 32 year old man who has never read a harry potter book before, but i love sword and sorcery stories so i've seen all the potter movies. This movie was amazing...the cinematography was the most stunning work i have ever seen on film(and i'm a movie buff and photographer)! It was a visual feast for the eyes...the other potter movies never gave the feel of a magical environment, this did.The night scenes were so beautifully shot that that you felt immersed in an outerworldly realm of magic both good and bad every second. The overall story telling was brilliant and well paced, and i found the story to be very dark and mature. Some moments are a bit too scary for small children ,but everyone should find something to like. This one was about maturing as people and wizards.....and the 3 kids have matured as actors as much as there characters have on screen. It is a travesty that this director doesn't continue with the series. To the potter fans that say this doesn't closely resemble the book, get over it!!! No movie can ever match what you visualized in your mind. As a stand alone movie this was a masterwork.
Hurricane Smith (1992)
great movie!
This was a good movie! Better than i expected! Carl weathers was great and the action and story was pretty good. One thing that really blew me away about this movie was how great the music was,it sounded like one a those old soundtracks from the 70's or the early 80's. Also the actress who played carls love interest was great...she had a real warmth about her...maybe it's me..but austrlia seems to be making some of best movies in the biz...great movie! Lately it seems like all the good stuff is coming from down under! Everything i've seen in recent years seems pretty fun..not pc like hollywood pics...and defenatly not cold and boring.....like the dribble out of europe....anyway check out this flick you will not be disapponted.
EuroTrip (2004)
AWESOME
okay..first of all i am a 32 year old man, and i love this movie! This movie was great it was about..a group of friends who toured europe on 1 wild a@% ride! road trip ..garbage,old school boring, american pie overrated!!!!..T his was a movie! Fisrt of all it was about a group of friends who genuinly love each other. Second of all it was about young people doing what they should do.....traveling the world experiecing all the decadent plesures life has to offer.and last but not it was what filmmaking should be POLITICALLY INCORRECT! Another thing that i liked was the fact that everybody in group was trying to get laid and drunk/high....i really like that the scene with the abstinte(good stuff). No pc crap here...even the female in the group was down(regardless to what society says.....girls need to party and get laid too) now that was real.Wild, crazy, disrespectful(i really love how they slammed the church...great stuff)..a really fun movie for the young and old..seen twice and buying it as soon as it hits shelves. If your a prude..a religous nut or some tired no life having conservative ..stay away from this one.For everybody check it out.....it's not mean or cynical..just funny as hell.....and you'll also enjoy the real love and friendship between the main 4 characters.......funny,romantic.....everything american pie, roadtrip and old shcool should have been but weren't in the tradition of"BAD SANTA" come another unbridled comic movie....great stuff!
Human Nature (2001)
okay movie....hot actress
okay .....human nature was bizarre to say the least.....the humor was..well different....but i liked it mainly because of it's theme about human nature and how we can fight our nature,...but its a battle were bound to lose....also a hirsute patricia arquet was still sexy..not a great movie, but for a bizzare nights entertainment check it out.
The Thomas Crown Affair (1999)
hmmmmmm
great movie! classic heist movie.geat sex, great action, great glossy look. But one of my favorite scenes in the movie was the scene where the museum guard catches a little girl about to touch the painting, he warns her away and she innocently runs away to join her class. A few minutes later we see the little girl in the off limits area again..she's gotten away from her class once more.....and she stares in amazement as she hears the security locks for the artwork protection system shutting down one by one in the walls......i think the writer/director was trying to make us understand that the urge to break the law or rules is something that is inately in all of us!.....great movie, renee sexy, peirce smooth as ever.....worth a look!
The Hot Spot (1990)
hot hot hot .....daaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmm it was hot!
whew , this was a hot one!....as a movie buff who watches a lot of movies i can honestly say that this is one of the hottest real movies ever brought to screen.I always liked don johnson but this was is magnum opus performance it's was levels above anything else he ever did..jennifer connely was hot but her part was quiet and low key she did extremly well with role she was given. But virginia madsen was hot as hell...you know i always liked as a actress.....but man she burned a hole in my dvd player on this one......she generated heat that rivaled kathleen turner......and sharon stone not even close! this girl is sexy as hell......i haven't anything this hot and steamy since the big easy.....dennis hopper great great director
View from the Top (2003)
great,great movie
i loved this movie. it was one of the most insiparational movies i seen in years......the acting was great and the story was simple but fun.I'll admit the movie had special appeal to me because i always dreamed of the traveling the world and getting out of the small town i live in.(i'm in flight school now).some people say they thought the movie was stupid...but it was about following your dreams....and for somebody like me with an insatiable wanderlust...i conected with it completey. And the sound track was awesome!gwen is rapidly becoming my favorite actress ,the rest of the cast was great it was a real feel good movie.........no needless heartbreak or drama..just a fun lighted hearted story with characters you really wanted to root for......it WAS..extremly well written for the material..and made you feel really good after watching it. i thought the casting was great...this movie gets a 10 out of 10 from me!...everybody won't feel it...but i loved it!........fun,romantic,inspirational.......great movie and soundtrack!!
Monkeybone (2001)
okay.....
this has got to the stupidest movie in the history of film!!!...but i liked it. The acting sucked and the script was nonexistant.....but there were two things that made the movie worthwhile for me...the opening scene where monkeybone comes alive in the classroom and starts to dance with the teacher(i laughed so hard i was out of breath),and bridget fondas nude scene(god i love that woman!!)Everything else about this movie was wrong,wrong,WRONG!....my main issue was that the movie was not raunchy enough...it was advertised as a raunch fest but it was barely 1 step above disney material!..there was little nudity and virtuly no cursing in the movie at all...........there in lies the problem..monkeybone never got raw or dirty enough to be entertaining to adults..and it was too surreal to be entertaining to kids.....the filmaker went off into his own artistic inclinations and screwed the veiwer in the process...good concept...NOT ENOUGH RAUNCH!!!!!!..but hey i saw my girl nude so it was worth the money!
The Ninth Gate (1999)
stunning....
the ninth gate is a absolute masterpeice of filmaking!..i am a life long movie buff......and i have never had a movie completely surround like this.......the oocult atomasphere created was awesome....i felt like i was along with corso for every inch of the story...polanski's master work.......many people said they didn't understand all of the movie...that's because the clues(esp the engravings in the 3 tomes)were so subtle that you have to see the movie more than once to get all the clues......scary,sexual,stunning photography from a master story teller.5 out of 5 stars!!!!!
Exit to Eden (1994)
great
this was a great movie...i loved it any movie with dana delaney naked is worth the cost of of a movie ticket.....dana as a dominatrix....awesome.. i thought she was great...dan was funny as usaul...as for rosie........i'm not a huge rosie fan ,but she did okay ..5/5 for this, not that funny but sexy as hell!!!!
Bats (1999)
okay...................look....
i've read almost all of the comments on bats ,and people have slammed this movie relentesly.........it's just not that bad.....when you go to see a movie about killer bats what the hell were you expecting...an oscar winner!!!!..this movie is great for what it is a funny outraguos horror movie...i thought it was great!!!....some people took issue with the "typical" bad scientist in the movie well ..the character was right on the money....scientist do the things they do not because they need to but because they can!.......and the actors in this movie are great actors!..granted this wasn't there best work...but lou diamond, leon and dina meyers are all great actors that have done some great work.(espically meyer)has anyone noticed that this girl could be the greatest female action star alive?!?...she is extremly physical, buetiful and does all her own stunts....she's strong and muscular as hell!......she has fought aliens, bats, dragons and the mafia and and looked dam good doing it.....she is an actress who is ready to explode as an action star....she just hasn't been discovered yet...any way the movie wasn't that scary but for the genre it was great...5/5 stars!
Revenge of the Ninja (1983)
great great movie!
man this was the greatest ninja movie ever made......it had violence, sex and a hero and a villian that were capable assasins!!!..for the people that say the acting was bad ar there were script problem....the movie was about the action and the entertainment not about winning the dam oscar!!!!!!!...and it was set in salt lake city utah...that alone made it unique because it wasn't the typical filmed in new york or la crap!!..anybody who can't appriciate two ninjas dueling to the death..with those beautiful utah mountains in the backgroud....just doesn't get it!!!
Drum (1976)
wild,wild,wild
Ha ha ha ha .....this movie was out there. Okay i'm a 31 year black male and a movie buff.I like movies good and bad, but a really love campy movies. Drum is now my favorite movie on all time!!!! The acting was terrible, the direction was worst, but i loved it!!! The plantation owner and his slutty daughter were the most outrageous characters in the entire movie...i love slavery movies or any movie set in the antibellum south..i saw mandingo and loved it!!!...i didn't even know drum existed until i saw it on late night cable tv. It was explicit, funny and probaly insulted half the viewing population! It was WILD and most of all POLITICALLY INCORRECT..WHICH IS WHAT FILMMAKING SHOULD BE!!!!!Most black people who watch this movie will probally laugh there ass off, I did! Those people who were offended, cool out. Its just really a fun movie.
