Passenger (2024)
Will be annoying if it's not renewed
This was an interesting program, and has promise and scope, in a similar vein to many other mystery shows it was holding a lot back and not giving much away for a long time and creating more questions and intrigue, which is to be expected, and they did this quite well because the more I watched the more I got into it, which is why I am a little annoyed with the ending, or more accurately the lack thereof, I've been left with all these unanswered questions, granted 6 episodes doesn't feel enough to have told the story, but ending it there seems like the writers have hedged their bets on a second series and have subsequently left us in limbo, if it doesn't get commissioned again then I feel it will have been pointless to have began watching it, and it would have been better as a limited series of maybe 10 episodes but at least then I could have my ending, so we'll just have to wait and see what ITV decide.
Avenue 5 (2020)
Excellent sci-fi comedy
I love a good sci fi comedy and this was definitely up there, it had a stellar cast of actors and it was extremely well written, fantastically Absurd and very witty as you would expect it to be given it was made by Armando Ianucci. The characters were brilliantly dysfunctional and all brought something to the party, I had many laugh out loud moments and numerous chuckles, and found it so entertaining and easy to binge, I was very saddened to hear that HBO decided not to renew for a third season, while I do appreciate that taste in programs is subjective I am very surprised by some of the unfairly low scoring of this by some of the other reviewers, which I feel unjustifiedly lowers this shows average score, it deserves much better, it makes me wander if we have watched the same show and that if we have what kind of comedies they usually watch to score this so badly!
Mulligan (2023)
Not funny
Given the great voice actors involved in this I had hoped it would be good but after 4 episodes without even a chuckle I have to give up and move on to something more deserving of my time, it's just not funny at all, I tend to like any good comedies and am open to all sorts of humour but, this show simply misses the mark on that front unfortunately, Netflix cancels great adult animations like, inside job and Hoops, they should have put the money into one of them or even better still used it to bring back final space!! Save your time, skip this one and move on the something else would be my advice.
Survivor (2001)
Really enjoying it
Reviewing series 3 which is presented by Joel Dommet and has been picked up by the BBC and I am really enjoying it, We are currently 4 episodes in and I'm hooked, I love all aspects of it, there is action, tension, drama and humour to it, from the competitive nature of the physical tasks which are entertaining to watch and emphasises peoples strengths and weaknesses, to the psychological aspect of game playing and such you then see in camp where people attempt to form alliances and divisions and sway others on who to vote out, Joel does a great job presenting it and brings comic relief at times, but is also able to add to the tension and drama when required.
American Gods (2017)
Really enjoyed it
It had great visuals and an interesting concept, It could be a little slow in parts but overall I thoroughly enjoyed it up until the point I found out that starz cancelled it, so annoyed as it has been left on a cliffhanger, it's a disgrace that they do this to viewers who have invested time into the programs, they should at least allow the creators to tie up the story somehow for us.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Strange scenes spoil the film
Nonsensical scenes detract from what could have been a decent film, don't know how these stupid scenes weren't flagged during Filming, in editing or by the director or producers, the scene where the woman bringing up the rear gets lost and is killing zombies left right and centre, then Martin locks the door on her only for her to jump through a window right beside her comrades but instead of helping her they stand there watching her fight a load more by herself before eventually being overrun, idiotic, also with the time she had you would have thought she would have warned her friend that Martin wasn't to be trusted.
Another was by the vault with the main zombie being shot in the bulletproof mask multiple times, then they lower their guns, he takes the mask off and they fight hand to hand! Why not shoot him again when he took mask off, what's the safecracker doing during this fight? Just Watching?
The girl on the roof with the zombie queen head deciding to take one for the team and stay behind, why! She could have gotten on the helicopter whilst doing what she was doing.
Made no sense at all how the zombies got back to their lair quicker than the helicopter.
And once again a stupid delay on the roof with no sense of urgency to get on the helicopter giving the head zombie time to jump in!
Vanderhoe was bitten much sooner than Bautista yet Bautista turned into a zombie very quickly whilst vanderhoe had time to shelter from the bomb, escape the city, walk miles, drive probably many miles to hire a plane etc before starting to feel strange on the plane.
I know it's a zombie flick but logic should still prevail.
Final Space (2018)
Superb show
Cant believe Warner media cancelled the show, absolute disgrace! Its the most engaging animation series I've watched, it has everything yet they cancel it! Hoping someone with sense will pick it back up and allow them to finish the story for us at least, if your a fan like you can find a petition online to help try and save it.
Hunderby (2012)
Brilliantly twisted
Was gutted that sky didnt renew this for a third series, it's a fantastically twisted comedy from the great Julia Davis, everything she does is superb in my opinion. It's wonderfully witty an expertly written with a very adept cast.
Gangs of London (2020)
I grew to really like it
Wasn't sold on the show at first, but stuck with it and it started to get more intriguing and better as it went on, The fight scenes and shootouts are very well done, And I've enjoyed watching my wife wince at some of the gory deaths!haha.
I'm looking forward to a second series now.
Devs (2020)
Entertaining
Just finished and must say I really enjoyed it, interesting story, wasn't massively keen on the main character to start with, didnt find her very emotive or engaging but she grew on me towards the end
Hoops (2020)
Really funny
Don't listen to all the snowflakes whining about the swearing in this and giving it a poor score, it's an adult comedy, and I though it was f*ck!ng funny, it has interesting characters that are voiced very well an has great humour, many scenes had me laughing out loud.
Space Force (2020)
Very entertaining, not just a comedy
Wasnt sure what to make of it at first as i didn't really laugh during the first episode, but it was interesting and engaging and had a great cast of actors so I carried on and I have really enjoyed it, it's not an all out comedy, and that is why I think many are scoring it poorly as they are expecting the same format as the office and not giving it a chance so they don't get into it, this show is different and has a mix of drama and humour. I'd liken it somewhat to The Orville in that your preconceptions are of a it going to be a silly hilarious comedy of gags and jokes but you realise theres much more to it than just comedy.
The Last Man on Earth (2015)
Awesome comedy
This was just up my street, really quirky and different, and very funny, loved every episode. Absolutely astonished and gutted it got cancelled!
Thor: Ragnarok (2017)
Really enjoyable and good fun
Fun, entertaining and humour that was reminiscent of guardians of the Galaxy, I had many laugh out loud chuckles whilst watching this, Well done Taika waititi.
Frayed (2019)
Hope theres a second series
Really enjoyed this, quirky show, very entertaining and funny. Great acting and very natural, hope they get a second series, cant understand the odd low rating from some, they must not understand subtle humour, they probably prefer shows with canned laughter so they get prompts to know when to laugh!
Ladhood (2019)
Hidden gem
Stumbled upon this by accident and love it, its not meant to be a rip off of the inbetweeners as one reviewer suggested, this is a witty clever nostalgic comedy with great acting allround and it deserves a second season
Altered Carbon (2018)
Enjoyable
I enjoyed this inventive sci-fi series, It was interesting and different and visually excellent, it was only let down by the wooden acting of Dichen Lachman which unfortunately stood out for me for the wrong reasons, if it gets renewed for another series which hopefully is will, at least she wont be in it.
Original review and score for series one.
Second season is very disappointing and I gave up on it after 3 episodes
La casa de papel (2017)
Dont watch it with english dubbing
8 episodes in and I regret starting, it had a good initial plotline thats let down by really awful dubbing with very poor voice actors which makes it much harder to engage with and get into and is not very gripping, might have been better with the original spanish audio and subtitles, dont understand how there are so many rave reviews for this, it is certainly not deserving of the 8.7 imdb score, its not in the same league as many other programs with lower scores
N.B, I have edited my score, as I continued watching the rest of the show with subtitles, and it made such a difference it was much more engaging, and I really enjoyed it, great story
Safe House (2015)
2nd series review......Not worth your time
The first series wasn't the best but was passable, I thought I'd give the second series a chance seeing as it had an all new cast, a new story and was set in Anglesey(not far from where I live). Wish I hadn't bothered, I watched the first two episodes to give it a chance and couldn't really get into it, I was going to stop there but as it only had four episodes I continued on, mainly to confirm that I was correct in my thought from the very first episode that Jason Watkins character was indeed the culprit. It was a chore to watch however and I found it hard to connect with any of the characters and to be honest I couldn't have cared less what happened to any them, it was lazy uninspired and unimaginative stoytelling with a done to death plot and one of those annoying unanswered you have to make your own mind up endings. And on that point can someone please tell TV show writers to stop these open ended endings, with unanswered questions, I can understand it on long running TV shows where the story continues and the show has been commissioned for another series, but on a four part drama like this, even if I didn't care who lived or died, I've put the time in and I want the story told to me in its entirety, its your story not mine so finish it!
Blindspot (2015)
OK at first
Started out quite well, with an interesting premise, an amnesiac woman found in a bag covered in tattoos, one of them the name of an FBI agent. unfortunately season 2 has gone downhill and is a bit of a chore to watch frankly with implausible plots, poor character development, a dragged out story, awkward acting, unrealistic fight scenes and clichéd characters, the program seems to be dumbed-down in my opinion with pointless flashbacks for people with the memory of a goldfish, if you haven't started watching it yet then I'd suggest you don't bother as there are far better programs available that are more deserving of your time
Parallels (2015)
Not a film, has no ending!
I watched it because of the IMDb score, which is staggeringly high considering, and very much regret not reading the reviews first. I feel cheated after watching this, the acting wasn't the best and it had poor character development, however putting that aside it was half watchable as the premise was good, I considered turning it off halfway through but I pushed on as I wanted to find out how it ended! I should have listened to my gut instinct though because as I subsequently found out and as other reviewers have stated it was originally intended as a pilot for a TV series that got rejected and some studio exec somewhere thought they'd try and recoup some money back by releasing it as a film, and for that reason this so called film has no ending at all, it simply created more questions than it answered and left me very dissatisfied and annoyed, It's like reading the first 30 pages of a novel only to find the rest of the pages are all blank. Save your time and watch something else.
