Villain (2020)
Watchable but nothing more.
I thought it'd be absolute rubbish but it wasn't.
Certainly doesn't deserve the 10 ratings it has on here but neither does it deserve the 1's and 2's...personally I think 5-6 is about right.
On the whole the acting was decent and the casting was spot on as all the characters were believable.
In my opinion the film went a bit wrong in certain areas.
The characters, whilst believable, lacked any depth or development which could have been achieved with better writing and a longer run time.
The plot was formulaic and somewhat bland but I felt the production values were really very good and it felt gritty and real.
I think they could have done more with the plot and more with the writing but the actors were good and I watched until the end...which I felt was a slight rip off of layer cake but, again, that's just my opinion.
Ozzy & Jack's World Detour (2016)
Funny and Interesting.
I really like this hybrid show.
Hybrid because it is part travel, part family and part comedy...hard to actually define it apart from to say it is funny...and interesting.
Ozzy and jack, and various family members, go to interesting places and do interesting things.
I've no doubt it is part scripted (my opinion) but much of it is not and you can see that...even the scripted stuff is funny such as robert the doll.
Anyway, I'm crap at reviews but am just hoping for a season 4 as this is a genuinely funny and interesting show.
Vikings (2013)
Good for entertainment
Vikings is a very entertaining show if you are able to move past the historical inaccuracies. If you want the history (things like real events, costume and customs) to be very accurate then this won't be for you, and I think this is the reason for many negative reviews. It's written by Michael hirst who is famous/infamous for inaccurate portrayals of historical characters...the Tudors made a big old mess out of one of the most interesting periods of English history.
I could go on about the negatives but it is an entertaining show so won't be doing that. The acting is pretty decent, the accents aren't but I'm not too fussy about that. Locations are really good, I recognised a few places I've been in Ireland which was nice.
To cut a, potentially, long review short Vikings is entertaining with good action and locations but very poor historical accuracy. It's way better than some of the other crap out there but it doesn't deserve the high rating here.
Jamaica Inn (2014)
Diabolical
If you are a US viewer you'll certainly need the subtitles turned on although I recommend you find something else to watch. I turned off after around 30 minutes because of the mumbling dialogue which has attracted thousands of complaints to the BBC.
Sean Harris is utterly terrible in this role as he was in the channel four travesty Southcliffe.
How the director/producers failed to notice the nonsensical dialogue is beyond me.
Do yourselves a favour and buy the (very excellent) book and give this utterly terrible adaptation a wide berth.
