Shining Vale: Chapter Six - Whispering Hope (2022)
Leaving us hanging
I feel like the whole show thus far has been in the same fast paced tempo and vibe, which is great because I'm really enjoying this so far.
This episode however is really starting to play with other potential ghosts too so I'm looking forward to them delving into their stories a bit further too, and what it is that might have happened in the house before the Phelps.
Lastly, can't say for sure, but it seems they've finally touched on whether Rosemary is more a demon or ghost and I think the next episode will continue to reveal this while the last episode this season should be a cliffhanger.
Shining Vale: Chapter Five - The Squirrel Knew (2022)
Picking up the pace
Everything's coming together, a bit more of the backgrounds of our characters coming out, and they're all figuring out where they fit in the story.
As always they're adding a little more about who Rosemary is and what her intentions are, BUT it still hasn't been given away, but if a slow burn but still
Interesting.
Addition of Pats mum too, which is great as she's such a character that I hope she ends up sticking around for a few more episodes.
Shining Vale: Chapter Four - So Much Blood (2022)
Who is Rosemary??
Finally getting more into Rosemarys backstory and how she fits in Pats world. Still unsure what her intentions are and even what she is, Pat is starting to warm up to communicating with her in order to finish her book.
Loving the subtle comedy especially the Wiccan she consults, and I'm glad they haven't leaned into being overly obvious with the humour otherwise I think we could be looking at a show version of scary movie.
Shining Vale: Chapter Three - The Yellow Wallpaper (2022)
Nice play on the cliche supernatural movies
Pats getting more and more concerned about Rosemary and her presence, as well as whether she's even seeing her or if it's all a dream.
Couple of funny subtle jokes on other paranormal films, noticeably paranormal activity, but they're so quick if you blink you'll miss them.
I'm getting more and more invested in who or what the housewife is.
Shining Vale: Chapter Two - She Comes at Night (2022)
Getting into the story a bit more
Starting to get behind the reason for this he Phelps moving a bit further, I mean it's been discussed from episode 1 but they're really starting to delve into it in more depth.
We're getting to know more characters, and secrets are getting unravelled. Loving that they're starting to explore who the housewife is and her connection to pat.
Shining Vale: Chapter One - Welcome to Casa de Phelps (2022)
A good surprise...
I started this as another background show. I wasn't sure what to expect so figured I could play it in the background without paying too much attention and see how it went.
Verdict is it's a lot more fun, and funny than I expected. This first episode sets the tone perfectly for the feel of the show, a little supernatural and a lot of 'real people' comedy, meaning for me it's not taking itself seriously but also not trying to be over the top.
Give it a shot you won't be disappointed!
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Pretty good for a parody
Reading some of these reviews I think a lot of people didn't get that it's meant to be a parody of a few films.
That said I actually enjoyed it and I liked that it was a show too. It's not anything incredible but it was fun to watch, and I appreciated that they didn't try to be to over the top with the comedy.
The King's Man (2021)
Loved every minute of it
Look it might not have been a seamless film in that they wanted to depict so many moments in history in one film and it all makes sense. If you can go in the cinema with the intention of just looking to enjoy a movie than you'll probably have a good time.
Overall super happy with the explanation on how the kingsman began and left feeling pretty happy.
The Witches (2020)
Overdramatised in every way to appeal to children
This film has a good base, the storyline is solid (all they needed to do was follow it) and the set and actors are great. I feel that there was a decision made, I assume by the director, to overdramatise the acting (to appeal to small children, who might find it funny) and because of this the child actors and adults alike aren't able to be their best selves as it's all too 'big' and in your face. The music is another thing that was just too much, they should have taken the example for he old film in that a nice subtle score with more subtle acting could still be dramatic and enjoyable, whereas this was not. Lastly, I liked the idea that witches could be in plain sight without you knowing, but this kind of steps on that idea as they all have this very specific look that would definitely stand out in a crowd.
I rented this on google, and don't regret doing that because I would rather make my own mind up, but what I can say is that if you have smaller children they may enjoy this. That said, unlike an actually well done 'family' film, the adults who watch this, and dare I say even older teens will not enjoy this as they should.
A Quiet Place Part II (2020)
A lot of people have negatively rated this film without really understanding what kids are like
Not sure why it's getting such bad ratings on here. Theres some saying it's the same film as the first, when it's not, the only thing story wise that's the same is the ending solves the current problem they're facing, except in the second film it's actually a means to an end of the whole alien invasion. There's amazing cinematography at work and honestly the whole crew has done a great job here, including the actors who've all put on great performances.
Some have also mentioned there's dumb moves made by the characters, namely the children, just to add to a scare factor when in reality the son makes stupid moves because (you guessed it) he's a kid. It's too easy to say that in the year or so that they're meant to be in this situation that this kid would have matured to the point of thinking like an adult should. The same thing goes for the deaf girl, yes she makes stupid decisions but she means well and she's still a child, she doesn't have the ability to foresee her actions as well as she should. I think as much as these scenes are difficult because we feel they should no better, they're actually honest of what children would be likely to do in difficult situations because they don't have the maturity to know better. If it was a bunch of adults making the same dumb decisions, then potentially I could see what some of these reviews were saying.
For me I loved it, it had me on the edge of my seat the whole time, stressed about everything that was going on in the film (in the best way) and where it would go next. While I understood what the end goal was, I couldn't foresee exactly what was going to happen in-between and I think that's the sign of a good horror/thriller. Personally I'd put this under thriller. As usual watch the movie and make your own mind up, but if you go in looking to have a good time you'll be happy you went to see this.
Testament of Youth (2014)
A beautiful story of love, loss and the aftermath of war...
I desperately wanted to see this film, since I love all the actors and find Vera Brittain's story so incredible and heartfelt, regardless of the fact that it would have been similar to many stories after the war.
This really is a story about love, friendship and loss.
The fact that it was based on someone's memoir made it all that more real and devastating, considering that could happen to anyone( if a new war was to begin) and has and is, in certain parts of the world, happening to someone right now.
They haven't sugar coated anything in this film, and even though I've gone from being cheerful to completely distraught, I wouldn't change anything about it.
If you want to watch a film that is real, explicit in the right way, but without gore or an irrational amount of romance, and with the perfect cast and acting, that has beautifully reflected this brave woman's story...................... Look no further!
Seven Pounds (2008)
Seven Pounds is about loss and love,The loss of someone he cared about dearly, and the loss of 6 people he didn't even know.
This movie is all about loss, forgiveness and letting go. All though it's also about many other things they are some main points. It's not what you'd expect when i say that it's about forgiveness and letting go, because instead of normal movies this is about a man who is full of regret, but won't let it get in front of what he is trying to achieve. I found this movie realistic, even after Ben ( Will Smith) sort of fell in love with Emily Posa ( Rosario Dawson) he couldn't forgive himself for what he did, even if it was an accident. It was all part of a plan that he (with the help of his friend) would help as many of the 7 people he could while he was alive (they were in a way supposed to take the places of the lives lost in the accident) The fact that they didn't make it one of those movies were he falls in love and forgets about everything else, is one of the best points about it. It's what makes it realistic, I mean sure it's human nature to want to thrive and survive, love and forget, but the fact that he doesn't forget is what makes this movie truthful. It's when he walks out of Emily Posa's house and realizes he needs to speed up the plan before he get's attached and does something he feels he doesn't deserve, to live a normal life again. Overall I think that it's a must see it makes you understand that everything happens for a reason, like 7 people dying so that 7 other people could live.
