The Spirit of Christmas (2015)
Give this movie a chance.
Let's get one thing straight. I am not a sentimental woman. I simply watch Hallmark movies to laugh at how bad they are. So can you imagine my surprise when this film presented itself as--not only a Christmas romance--but a MURDER MYSTERY?
Granted, there are still the usual trademark Hallmark parts: cheesy dialogue, emotional piano playing, flubbed lines that somehow made the final cut, etc.
But if you give this movie a chance, you will not be 100% disappointed.
The Invisible (2007)
After an attack leaves him in limbo--invisible to the living and also near death--a teenager discovers the only person who might be able to help him is his attacker.
Okay, I'm just going to state the obvious: Everyone who hates this movie was just disappointed by the fact that wasn't another shitty teen horror flick. I, for one, am grateful for this, because this movie was so much more. Sure, the trailers were a bit misleading, but if you watch it with an open mind I think you would enjoy it. I certainly did. Apart from the main story line of trying to save his own life, there was a lot of underlying beauty in the relationship between victim and villain.
Another thing I liked about this film was the fact that the main character Nick wasn't a saint. Everyone had their dark moments. And that made the characters seem real. It gave the film depth.
If you have the chance to see this movie, don't pass it up. It's enthralling and will keep you totally entertained for two hours.
I give it 8/10.
Lie to Me (2009)
Not given the credit it deserves.
FOX's hit Lie To Me shows great promise, if only FOX execs would see so. I watch this show any time it comes on, even the reruns. I'm fairly certain that I've watched each episode about 3 times now. I absolutely adore this show. Complete with great actors, a wonderful script, and an overall superb atmosphere, this show is definitely worth a few more seasons. FOX refuses to believe that it is doing well, but the hard truth is this:
This is the show they've got that isn't dried out. American Idol, the X Factor, even Family Guy is starting to get a bit old and overrated. What people want is a great show that they'll enjoy watching each week. FOX may have cancelled it, but remember: Family Guy was cancelled twice and was brought back both times by the hard work of the fans. This is what Lie To Me needs. If the dedicated fans (and there are more than you'd think) would just take the time to write FOX execs emails or letters, and sign as many petitions as they can, we could get Lie To Me back on the air. FOX promised the writers that they weren't going anywhere, and they didn't even give Lie To Me a full third season! That's just plain unfair.
Maybe, if FOX is too preoccupied by their failing reality shows, we could ask other network execs to pick up the show. USA, TNT, FX, CBS, even NBC would all do fine with such a captivating show under their belt. People just need to make the effort. Do any of you want to see Lie To Me go?
Many of you are arguing that Lie To Me is painfully similar to House, but it simply isn't true. The Lightman Group is much more diverse and thoroughly entertaining to watch every week. They are nothing like the bleak characters of House. They have a million ways to go with this show, not just drugs like with House, and the basic plot for it is simply fascinating. A standard episode is more intriguing than a House finale.
House M.D. (2004)
Good show...but
I fell in love with this show the first time I watched it, but after seven seasons they've pretty much reached all of the limits.
After a few years, the whole jackass-good-guy lead is kind of getting old. The characters started with plenty of room to grow, and they have done just that. House has gotten into every sort of trouble possible, including drugs, near death, and, that's right, more drugs. This show has had a great run, but now it needs to step down so other shows can have the opportunity to grow as House did, such as Lie to Me. The plots seem similar, but the Lie to Me characters have more diversity and humanity and are generally more entertaining than those in House. If House stepped down, or at least moved to a different time, in order to make room for FOX's other hit Lie to Me, it would be greatly appreciated by many.
Hugh Laurie and the rest of the cast have earned a great reputation from this show, and will do fine on their own if House steps back. I'm not the only one who thinks so.
Chuck (2007)
I hope it never ends!
CHUCK is yet another small show that is gaining fame and fans. I know that the show grabbed my attention in the first five seconds! Packed full with humor, action, romance, angst, love, and bizarre friendships, CHUCK will keep you interested until the very end. Each season comes up with twists and turns that keep you on the edge of your seat.
When I first heard the main story of the show, I really wasn't that interested. The basic theme seemed boring and dull. But, at the pleading of my friends, I sat down and watched the pilot episode and fell in love with every character. I really do hope everyone gives CHUCK a chance because it's an amazing show that deserves your attention. I recommend it to all of my friends and family.
