Valentines Day Refugees (2007)
A Sad Monster Story
Colorful drama of an ugly creature seeking the meaning of Valentines Day through a series of rejections. Lots of weird costumes, pretty girls, witty lines, and spiritual overtones. I think the characters are three dimensional and believable. The Ghoulee character seems realistic, unique and memorable. Lots of references to DR Laura, Paris Hilton, Shrek, Brad and Angelina, and other familiar things including the Bible. Can you imagine zombies quoting the Bible? Although there a few sprinkled adult overtones, a family can still watch this comfortably. I believe there was another film featuring these same characters made prior to this one that uses Christmas as a backdrop. This film seems to pick up where the other has left off. I would give this film 10 stars because of its tricky way of making you think you are about to see a "silly kids" film, when in actuality it is very very spiritual.
In Grand Assembly (1988)
This Presents An Over View Of The Jehovah Witness Beliefs
If this subject interest you in the slightest, there is nothing out there than can touch this documentary on Jehovah's Witnesses as seen at their Summer Conventions. I do not agree with their philosophy, then again I don't agree with most other beliefs either. They had their share of troubles as other religious organizations have had also. Aside from that, this is a sneak peek into their beliefs and rituals. This documentary was necessary for me to understand why people become Jehovah's Witnesses and why people avoid them. Interesting stuff. I heard that a DVD or download will be available from Amazon later this year.
