American History X (1998)
one of the most powerful movies I've seen
I think that a lot of people give this movie good praise for all of the wrong reasons. Most enjoy the violence that the movie displays (mostly the "curb stomping" scene), but fail to see the actual moral that the story has (which is extremely clear). Edward Norton's character develops excellently throughout the film, and Edward Furlong's character is likeable too. It paces itself well, and there really aren't any bad spots in the film, it feels like everything should be there. All in all, one of the best and most powerful movies I've ever seen, with one of the most melancholy endings to boot.
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
A movie true to the story, and equally as good!
I really won't waste anyone's time with saying what everyone else has already said, which is that this movie is spectacular! It's true to the book in almost every aspect, and has one of the best climaxes I've seen. Great performances were given by everyone, and this movie should easily be in the upper echilon of american cinema.
Iria: Zeiram the Animation (1994)
One of the first animes I've seen, and still one of the best.
It was back in 1994 when I first laid eyes on Iria, and ever since then I've been in love with the movie. I don't consider myself an anime expert by any stretch, but I've seen enough to know what's good and what's not. There isn't a whole lot about this movie that I don't like, with the exception of some of the voice acting, but that's to be expected with translation. The action is spectacular, the characters are likeable, and the animation is beautiful. I think the thing about Iria I like the most is the villain, Zeiram. The way that he's so emotionless and tenacious is something that you don't see very often with bad guys. He doesn't talk or brag, so you don't get the run of the mill psycho or typical villain. The story holds up througout the entire movie, and moves at a very good pace, especially the action sequences. All in all I would rate Iria: zeiram the animation an 8 out of 10.
