Power of the Air (2018)
Great movie!
Someone else gets it! So thankful for this movie! My husband and I enjoyed it. We will be sharing it with our kids and family. Most Christian movies aren't "Christian" anymore. This one is and I'm thankful for it. I had my doubts when starting it but they were quickly alleviated. This is an all around great Christian movie that sends a very clear message. It wakes you up and warns about the "largest church in America". Blessings to all of the people involved in making this movie. We need more Jesus. And we need more people willing to show how modern world is corrupting us without our knowledge.
The Keepers (2017)
Excellent and very well done exposing these murderers and pedophiles
I didn't want to watch this when someone recommended it but I am glad that I did! This is very well done and you can tell these ladies really wanted to put the energy into having closure for the two ladies that were murdered and for themselves for the torture that they had to endure. This goes deeper than spotlight with specific information about the atrocities that is hard to hear but it needs to be heard. These victims need to be heard. I'm not normally a Netflix fan but I commend them on this one.
The Black Rider: Revelation Road (2014)
Where is number 4?
This series was great! Where is #4? Hope it's in the making! White did a great job on this. Very biblical based. Lots of faith. Lots of Jesus (of the Bible which is the most important thing since most of the "Christian movies" these days don't have the right Jesus). Really hoping for a number 4!
Sling Blade (1996)
Not all it is cracked up to be
***This review DOES contain spoilers***
Sling Blade was a unique movie. I have never seen another movie exactly like this. This movie was written by and directed by Billy Bob Thornton. The movie starts off with a young student reporter trying to get the scoop on a man that murdered his own mother and her lover. As a result, he ended up in a psychiatric ward that he called the "nervous hospital". After 20 years he is released.
The theme of this movie is very religious. There are many references to the Bible and God. Karl spent four years reading the bible. His parents claimed to be very religious (even though his mother was having an affair and his father was an alcoholic) and believed that he was a punishment from God. The theme could also be looked at as people deserve a second chance.
I have watched this movie two times. The first time that I watched it I would have given it rave reviews. However, the second time I watched it, I paid closer attention to the plot without getting involved in the emotional portion of this movie. Ultimately, I find that there are major inconsistencies. While Billy Bob Thornton plays the part of Karl Childers wonderfully, the character himself is inconsistent. Karl is way more competent than a person of his demeanor should be at some parts and more incompetent in other parts. Case in point, is that doesn't seem to understand that basic concepts such as freedom but then he understands more complex concepts such as how lawn mower engines work and that his parents didn't do a good job raising him. He even talks about how they had him take his brother out to the trash but then he kept him in a shoebox until he died. Later, when confronting his father about it, he was able to articulate words about him not killing his brother and saying, "I learned to read some. I read the Bible quite a bit. I can't understand all of it, but I reckon I understand a good deal of it. Them stories you and Momma told me, they ain't in there"...."You outta not killed my little brother. He ought to have had a chance to growed up. He would have had fun sometimes." (Thornton, 1996) But here you can see that he understands the meaning of death and what would have happened if his brother hadn't died.
Also, paying close attention to the words, he uses proper English, then slang, then improper wording in his sentence. It is very inconsistent. The lighting in the film is fairly dark and there are not many close up shots. I don't feel like there were indirect-subjective points of views. Mainly the film is back and forth between objective and subjective points of the views throughout the movie. The costumes in the film were more of old dingy clothes that you would associate with poor folks.
This movie slightly reminds me of Forrest Gump. Tom Hanks played a mentally challenged and religious character in that film and you get the same sentiment, in a shorter film here without all of the luck. Overall, it is a film that I would recommend seeing but not one that I would rave about. When I watched it as I normally would have, without critiquing it, I liked it. But when I watched it again while critiquing it, I just found far too many inconsistencies to highly recommend it. I am giving it a 4/10.
