Black Beach (2020)
Great political comedy.
Particularly amusing is The Guardian, the lefty newspaper in the role of a beacon of truth. Note the movie is about power of special interests, but the producers tell us the very same journal that did everything in its power to overthrow the first POTUS in generations not indebted to special interests to be a the arbiter of objective truth. I haven't laughed so heartily in years!
Sala samobójców. Hejter (2020)
Derivative
The movie is derivative on all levels. The use of opera to enhance dramatic effect feels like we are stuck in the 90s. Endless steals from better movies. Primitive take on politics filled with cliches. No redeeming value. Watch cartoons from the 50s instead.
Spasti Leningrad (2019)
Misleading title
Nobody saves Leningrad in the movie as the whole action takes places during approach of German army. Other than that, it is hard to believe it was made in 2019 as it is lowly propaganda of the worst kind. Communist Soviet Union made much better and truthful war movies. Any redeeming value is lost due to obvious steals from Titanic. Avoid at all cost.
Betonrausch (2020)
Berlin pretending to be LA
What is the point of this misfire? Poor cousin of much better American movies. One can almost point to sources scene by scene. For anybody remotely familiar with reslities of modern Germany painful to watch.
Unorthodox (2020)
Claptrap
Berlin as a redemption place for Orthodox Jews? Please! How stupid Netflix thinks we are.
The King (2019)
Boring
And slow paced. It does not help that we all know the ending. Did not add anything to my superficial knowledge of the history of the battle.
The Ghost Writer (2010)
embarrassingly naive
I actually felt ashamed that I watched the movie until the end. It kept me mildly interested in the drawn out plot, hence two stars instead of one. The movie requires major suspension of disbelief: weak ghost writer solves international plot involving CIA and top secret agents placed in top positions of governments and all what it takes him are three days of drinking and some Google searching. This unlikely plot is peppered with psychological improbabilities and generally motivations of main characters are poorly if at all explained. Finally, the movie caters to the worst possible conspiracy theorists and Polanski for one should have known better. To be avoided at all cost.
