Interesting Look at the 60's
26 March 2024
This is a counterculture look college life in the 60's. Not the greatest storyline. Not the greatest themes. Watchable though.

To see Peter Fonda, Sharon Hugueny, Nick Adams and Deborah Walley in a movie together brought back good memories for me. I really like them all.

Beatrice Straight, Joseph Campanella, and Malachi Throne have supporting roles and it's great to see them.

So the cast for me is totally worth a look!

It's sad. Nick, Sharon and Deborah would pass away way too young. It kind of haunts me watching the film.

This is the only film Samuel Goldwyn Jr ever directed making it more interesting.

It involves young people seeking to break away from the morals of the past. To me it highlights the unfairness of it all. If young woman gets pregnant without being married she gets scorn and pain instead of kindness and understanding. If men could get pregnant, abortion world be safe and legal in every state.

The word abortion is never uttered.

Fury: The Hobo (1956)

This is a great episode
7 February 2024
Fury, the story of a horse and the boy who loves him, I watched this every Saturday as a kid, This episode has a lot of meaning for me. Peter Graves is one of my favorite TV actors. He is fantastic as always.

Then as an added bonus: William Hopper. I love this guy too. He was Paul Drake on the original TV Perry Mason with Raymond Burr, also a favorite! A great show.

I this episode Hopper plays a hobo. That's all I'll say. I was moved by it. I am just a pushover.

Bobby Diamond is great. He passed away not too long ago, All the stars are now gone, but the memory remains.

Fury is a wild horse that Joe (Bobby Diamond) befriends. It is a great show so many years later. I used to watch this religiously along with Sky King. It was sponsored by Nabisco. Another great vintage show..

Praying for peace.

Just Keeps Getting Better!
29 August 2023
I was worried that the a third season might be one too many. No worries needed. The writing, acting, and music keep being great. I love this show.

I'm not going to comment on the three main sleuths other than to say they are great together. The big thing for me about S3 is the addition of the new cast members, including Meryl Streep (Loretta) and Andrea Martin (Joy). I love the interaction between them. Charles's relationship with Joy. Oliver's with Loretta. Loretta singing "Look for the Light" in E3 is amazing and she continues to glow in E4. The acting. The writing. The music. They combine to make this one of the best ever.

Great actors!
12 March 2023
I enjoyed seeing such great actors. Gene Barry is one of my all-time favorites. Bat Masterson and Burke's Law were awesome shows. I'm a big fan of The War of the Worlds. Darrin McGavin and Ellen Corby are wonderful too.

The plot is a little thin here, but I still enjoyed it. Maybe not the best of the shows, but I still had fun watching it.

Lots of Alfred Hitchcock episodes are on YouTube. Peacock has all episodes from Season One, Episode One of Alfred Hitchcock Presents to the last episode of The Alfred Hitchcock Hour. I've decided to start and the beginning and watch them all. I hope you enjoy the shows as much as I do.

Episode 1 Was Poor. Episode 2 was Priceless.
5 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The two episodes are on YouTube. I love Jackie Gleason. But Episode One was pretty bad. The whole premise for the show just didn't work.

Celebrities stick their heads through holes in a huge drawing and try to figure out what is depicted by asking Jackie questions about what's depicted. Or who they are. Or something.

Episode Two is awesome. Jackie comes out without guests, without the pictures, and admits how bad E1 was. He speaks about how it happened and other duds he was it.

It took a lot of guts and the studio audience was behind him 100%.

I rated this a 5 as an average. Lower score for E1, higher score for the sheer boldness of E2.

If you're into TV history, you might like it. I've never seen anything quite the same.

GREAT ALL THE WAY
15 May 2022
Normally, I'm not interested in true crime, but something caught me about this one and I took a look. It grabbed me from the opening credits (which are worth watching in themselves). The storyline is intriguing, and the acting, photography, direction and 1980's look are all amazing. The young children are a delight, mixed in with the unsavory doings of Candy. Give it a try, even if you normally wouldn't.

Great Start with a Great Cast
24 April 2022
The ads got me and I subscribed to Starz just to see this. How could a cast like this be bad? Well, it can't. I am really happy to say it's off to a great start. The cast is awesome and Martha Mitchell deserved better than she got. I love the photography and the gratuitous nudity. I also like the TV shots. Go Martha. Good luck. Hope it's a big success. This cast can't fail. So far it has a 5.1 rating. Don't believe it. If you don't like this, you just don't get it.

Oh no!
30 December 2021
I am a fan if John Gilbert and I'm sorry his career faltered. But seeing him (or probably any other actor) try to seduce and corrupt every woman in the house between his chauffeuring duties was not fun. I'm no prude but it was very disturbing. Once he went after sweet newlywed Ana I had to just turn it off. Gilbert and the rest of the cast were fine actors, but the story just sucked. And John wrote it.

Now, if what I wrote doesn't bother you, see it. Lovely actors. With Paul Lukas and John Gilbert in the lead it's only the story sinks it for me.

Never heard of this one. Now I know why!
27 December 2021
First, I love Bette Davis. I thought I saw every movie she had been in. Loved her in Perry Mason sitting in for Raymond Burr (a big favorite of mine).

Second, I was a huge fan of James ("Jim") Davis when he was on the TV show Rescue 8. He went on to become a big TV star playing Jock Ewing in "Dallas."

The reason I never heard of this movie is because nobody ever talks about it. Jim and Bette just don't have the chemistry she has with her other costars. And James just isn't into it. Rather one toned throughout. The negative reviews here say it all.

I watched the movie because of my love for her. But this one can be missed if you're not a Bette Davis fan.

Fun if you just go with it!

If you like Boris Karloff and old movies this one is fun to watch. There are some funny lines. Regis Toomey is in it as well. I remember him from Burke's Law. Give it a try.

Worth a look!
29 November 2021
I'm a big Bobby Darin fan since I saw him on the Ed Sullivan Show when I was 8. Had no idea what Mack the Knife meant. But I loved it the first time I heard it. (Thanks to the internet, I now know what the heck is going on!)

Just started listening to Darin's music again. Poking around on the internet I learned of Beyond the Sea this morning and watched it. I know it's not accurate, but I still find it very engaging and watchable.

Kevin Spacey's singing is great. Dancing ok. Acting good too. The rest of the cast is good too. I could poke a lot of holes in it, but I'm just not into it and the reviews above have done well to chronicle the problems. My take: Try it, especially if you're a fan.

I love this show, but...
20 November 2021
Never considered watching this until I read articles about, well, something big happening in S2 E7. Then I binged all S1 right up to S2 E7 so I could see for myself.

I'm really impressed with this show. Never saw Jennifer Aniston before. I heard of her and was impressed but never watched Friends. Probably was on when I was in the Psych Ward.

Well, happy to say Jennifer Aniston is awesome. Reese Witherspoon too! And Steve Carell is great too. The rest of the cast is superb.

But the season finale was kind of a whimper especially given what's come before. Not bad, just was hoping for a bit of a cliffhanger.

But I'm ready for S3 RIGHT NOW! And I usually don't get excited about shows.

Got to say some great performances lately with J. Aniston, R. Witherspoon, Kate Winslet and Nicole Kidman to name a few.

Not for everyone but a second look was needed
25 October 2021
I saw this movie in 1981 when it first came out. I was 31. (Don't know if that matters but it might.) I could barely stay in my seat. I wanted out so bad. All this taking. (I was not a talker. I didn't like talking. I didn't want to tell anyone anything about me.) No action in it. I like action. This movie went in my list of "good movies" (received well in the press) that I did not like.

It has bothered me for a long time that I didn't get what this movie was about and just watched it again at 71. I loved it. I could relate to both these guys. I enjoyed watching them react to one another. That's just me. Nothing wrong with hating it.

This is great, but...
24 September 2021
I really enjoy almost any movie or TV show with Charlie Chan. This show is no exception. J. Carrol Naish is great. I just finished watching Episode 9 with Honor Blackman, one of my favorite actresses. The only "but" is that I wish a Chinese had played Charlie. (I'm pretty Blue.) But politics aside, this show is fun. Enjoy!

I had to subscribe to Hulu to see this one and it does not disappoint! Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez are terrific. I *IDOLIZE* Steve Martin and am so glad he is dong this show. It makes me happy to watch it, which is very important to strive for these days! This show has humor with a touch of reality and surprises!

I love this show and haven't read the book!!

I love this show. And I don't get the criticism of Nicole Kidman! I think she's great. This is a very interesting series, with lots of complex characters and great actors. Moreover, the setting is beautiful. (I watched The White Lotus and loved that too.) Wish I could go to a place like this. I would love those shakes!

Cagney, Keeler Powell and Blondell. Enough said.
31 August 2021
This is a great film. The actors, dancing and music are wonderful. The 30's were a great decade. Sound movies, musicals and great stars. This is one of my favorites. James Cagney in his first musical role. Ruby Keeler. Dock Powell. Joan Blondell. What could be better?

Interesting movie, hateful but interesting
29 August 2021
You can pass on this one. It's supposedly a key movie in movie history but I don't see it that way. The second intertitle is "The bringing of the African to America planted the first seed of disunion." Interesting way to blame "the Africans." I had only seen parts of this but wanted to watch it all in view of the controversy. Seeing it buttresses my view that it is racist and that racism was alive and well on 1915. The heroes are the Clansmen for goodness sakes. Sadly racism is still alive.

Great movie! First one I ever saw in a theater!
24 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My grandmother took me to see Gigi at the Cornell Theater in Burbank when it first came out. I was seven. I loved it. The music, photography, and acting enchanted me. I still love it. I've read some reviews here critical of the movie for the devotion of a system which saw young girls being raised as play things for the pleasure of older men. I respect that. The way I see it is Gigi rebelled against that system. She wanted to be her own person, not a toy. She would not participate. She wanted love and a marriage. And got it!

Must See
7 August 2021
Margaret Rutherford is amazing as Miss Marple. I love her! Young Ronnie Raymond plays the very clever Alexander. And Ronald Howard (Leslie's son) is Alexander's father. (Ronald played Sherlock Holmes in the 1950's TV show which is on YouTube and a must see as well.) Stringer Davis, Rutherford's real-life husband, plays Marple's friend and helper. Hail Britannia!

I was 10 when this was on and I thought it was great. Still remember watching it! Didn't know who the actor who played Buddy was until now, age 70! Loved him in everything he did.

Great fun. Put up with the bad print.

Good movie. Co-stars Ben Walden who would show up many times in TV and movies. He was especially good in villain parts in The Adventures of Superman with George Reeves.

Kind of reminds me of Blackboard Jungle. James Whitmore, John Cassavetes, and Sal Mineo. Gotta be good! Whitmore tries to work with urban youth. It's tough!
