Masters of the Air (2024)
It's just all so bland
Well here we are... 4 episodes in to what should have been an epic series coming off the back of Band of Brothers and the Pacific but what we are left with is one of the most bland war series ever made.
Majority of the latest episode was spent in the camp watching the characters fawn over women or dancing. Was this meant to create some sort of attachment between the viewer and the characters as it failed there. Apparently some of them died during combat... one of them being a main character and I felt nothing. I couldn't even remember which one it was if I'm being honest.
It's just a mess of a show up to now. It could have been so great but it's just not.
4 episodes down, 5 to go, and it needs to improve rapidly.
Monarch: Legacy of Monsters (2023)
Slooooooooowwwww
I wanted to like this show after hearing about it. I started off with the first episode where it's introducing the cast thinking it was slow but should build up pace in episodes 2 and 3... now I'm 5 episodes in and it's still just as slow. Nothing seems to happen. We've had a few monsters but very fleetingly... and the only sign of the big Godzilla himself is in the form of flashbacks. There's multiple timelines going on which adds to the confusion and frustration. All we want are monsters fighting one another... nobody cares for soppy back stories or dysfunctional families. Just give us nuclear powered fighting monsters!!
One Shot (2021)
Bad as bad gets really
I turned it off after 23 minutes. It's essentially trying to piggy back on the 'one shot' success of 1917... but without the same calibre of actors, the dialogue, the execution of the lines, the tension, the story, the set scenes or the financial backing. The sort of film you'd find in a battered old VHS case in the bottom of the bargain bin in Blockbusters.
The Blacklist: The Wellstone Agency (No. 127) (2021)
Beautiful memorial to Clark
Lovely way to remember Clark with a fitting tribute to his life.
The Walking Dead: Acheron: Part I (2021)
Very good episode... also might we see the return of Heath?
Great season opening episode. Probably the best for a number of seasons.
Read a load of reviews and nobody has picked up on the note from Heath on the "wall of the lost". Might we see his return? Initially I thought that wall was for those who have died but the discovery of the note from Yumiko's sister and then Yumiko wanting to stay would suggest all is not lost there. The correction on Heaths note of his weight would also link in with the actor losing weight between Walking Dead and the remake of 24.
Spinster (2019)
Crikey
It starts nowhere... goes nowhere along its journey... and ends abruptly on a beach.
The dog was the best character by a mile
The Walking Dead: The Tower (2020)
Mumblers not whisperers
I had no clue what Beta was whispering. Absolutely no clue whatsoever. Will be glad when this storyline is finished to be honest.
The Outsider (2020)
Sleepwalking it's way to the end
Started off brilliantly and at a good pace but from episodes 5 to 9 is just dragged on. Get on with it. Writers seem to want to try to build up tension with nothing but the soundtrack and dimly lot forest and outhouse scenes instead of actual acting.
Ray Donovan: The Transfer Agent (2019)
Great episode but sound quality?!?
Great episodes but the sound quality was bad. Yes, I realise the flashback sequences may have needed a different quality to the normal scenes but the whole thing was all over the place.
The Walking Dead: The Storm (2019)
Snow....then no snow
Terrible finale.
How come they are in the middle of what appears to be the worst snow storm in years, trudging through knee deep snow in the whisperers territory and then the very next shot you see partially clothed whisperers in their camp with no snow anywhere.
Zombies frozen solid and then others rising out of the snow.
Terrible sets. Low budget. Lazy writing.
