23 Minutes to Sunrise (2012)
Flat out awful
Don't waste your time. This is one of the most boring pieces of crap that I have seen in quite some time. It makes absolutely no sense. It goes nowhere. It's not scary, it's not suspenseful, it's just flat out dull. A couple of the characters were interesting but nothing interesting happens and the end totally leaves you hanging. In fact, two of the characters seemed to just simply disappear. I read a review on here that said this could be a Horror movie. Are you kidding me? I don't know what movie he/she was watching. But if you are curious and have an hour and about 18 minutes of your life to waste, then have at it. But don't say you weren't warned.
Evil Dead (2013)
I loved it!!!
OK, I have seen the new Evil Dead remake twice already and I thoroughly enjoyed it both times. I also saw the original Evil Dead and it's two sequels. I enjoyed the first film as well as the Evil Dead 2. But I thought Army of Darkness sucked royally and I won't even mention that crap anymore. I thought the first two were scary, though very cheesy looking. BUT that was 32 years ago. NOW as for the updated remake, I LOVED IT!! and the only reason I gave it 9 stars instead of 10 is because I was disappointed when it ended. I wanted so much more. I loved the characters, except for one who was just too stupid. Granted there are a lot of characters in horror movies who are several cans short of a six pack. But this one was a cut above the rest in stupidity. I mean if something is Barb wired shut, shouldn't that mean DON'T OPEN IT? But with the exception of his dumb a--, I really cared about the other four. And I thought the story as to why they were out there to begin with was excellent. And as for the gore, come on! if you're a fan of this genre, how could you not love this? (And I may as well be honest, I also thought the lead character was so cute, there were times I wish I could have jumped into the movie and helped her myself. I will be looking for her in future films.) OK, I had to get that out and now back to the movie. As I said, if you're a fan of this genre I just don't see how you could not like this movie. As for me, I have come out of horror movies over the last few years and wanted my money back, because they were hyped up so much, and I was expecting so much and got nothing. Insidious, V/H/S, Prometheus and so many more which I can't think of right now, but they all SUCKED!!! This film was entertaining from start to finish and it definitely was not boring at all, as a few reviews have stated. It was predictable however, but what Horror movie isn't these days? So I give it 9 stars because I was totally entertained and did not leave the theater wanting my money back. Instead I left the theater wanting more. And I look forward to Evil Dead remake part 2. Only this time bring ten people to the cabin so it can last a little longer. lol
V/H/S (2012)
Big Disappointment as usual
OK I will keep this short and too the point, I am done with Horror movies for awhile. This is about the forth or fifth Horror movie of the last few years that was so hyped up that I couldn't wait to go see it. And just like the rest of them, I left the theater totally disappointed. I would just like to know what was it about this movie that so many reviewers thought was so good? I read that a couple of people fainted during this movie. Are they for-real???
OK it's a combination of 5 short stories, and I have always liked that style ever since the Tales from the Crypt days. Where you get 4 or 5 or maybe even 6 short tales of terror. And even if a couple of them suck, you still might get lucky with the others. And that's exactly the case with this one. I thought the first one and the third one were pretty good. But the second, forth and fifth SUCKED!!!
The first one has 3 total jerks who go out drinking at the local Bar, and end up bringing a couple of girls back to their hotel room with nothing but bad intentions on their minds. The problem is, one of the girls they bring back has a serious apatite and they end up wishing they had left her ass back at the bar. But I enjoyed it and was hoping the rest of them would follow suit, but that was not the case at all.
Because the next one was so bad it's not even worth mentioning about a young couple apparently on a romantic vacation. It wasn't scary, it wasn't entertaining, it wasn't nothing. I'm like, what was the point of that?
And then there's the third one which starts off with 4 crazy teenagers of course, venturing out to the woods of course, where there's a killer waiting of course. Nothing new there, but the way the killer is viewed was excellent. Kind of reminded me of The Predator. This is also the one that has the most gore. Reminded me of Jason Voorhees type killings. I thought this one was also pretty good. My only problem with this one was I thought the two girls in it were so damn cute,I really hated to watch what happens to them.
Then the forth one there's this young girl chatting with this guy on Skype. She's telling him that she thinks her place is haunted and asks him to record their conversations so he can see for himself. And from that point, I really don't know what the hell was going on. I'm thinking, maybe i dosed off. Because it didn't make a bit of sense to me. What the hell actually happened? Nothing gets explained and you're just left hanging. SUCKED!!!
Then the fifth one was about a so-called haunted house. Give me a break. I've seen many haunted house movies that were way better then that. It had it's moments but not enough for me to give it a positive review.
So that's my opinion of V/H/S. The first and third segments were good and could very well be made into full length movies with the right director. But the rest were not worth the price of admission.
The Cabin in the Woods (2011)
Give me a Break
Well after reading several of the reviews on this movie, I noticed that reviewers either loved or hated it. I guess I am somewhere in between, though leaning more towards hated. And I would really like to ask those that loved it, what it was about this film that they loved so much. Granted it was different, but different doesn't necessarily mean better. This film may have been different, but in the end it was just as dumb as your traditional slasher movie. Scream was different, but it was smart. This was just different and dumb. And like another reviewer said, you can serve up this movie in 3 parts. Part one was very traditional and sucked royally. Part two made me say, OK, what's going on here. And part three almost made it worth the price of admission, but missed it by that much. So I can't say this movie is worth seeing, but I have to admit, I did like a couple of the characters. And I think if they had shortened parts one and two and extended part three, there would have been much more to talk about. But as it is, don't even waste your time.
