1? Really? People trying to ruin a man's career over an IP
21 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed the movie. It doesn't try to be anything else than what it is. A fun action-packed sci-fi movie. The pace of the first one was kind of rushed but I understand Zack was trying to setup this universe as better as he could in one single movie. I liked the pace of this one better. Really nice nod to sci-fi author Ray Bradbury by naming the planet Veldt, one of my favorite short stories by that author. Regarding the movie, it's visually stunning, action-packed and the CGI is flawless. I was blown away by Jimmy's CGI. Regarding the story, and although the premise isn't very strong, I understand it's trying to create a legend within that universe of that time a planet of farmers brought down a dreadnought starship from the Imperium, to inspire others to join their fight. I think it's about to become more interesting and a sequel is more than welcome. Like almost any movie, yes, it has some flaws. It's a sci-fi movie, suspend your disbelief to enjoy it. Zack is always trying to create an emotional feeling with his kind of filmmaking and I love that. I've seen other people point that out as boring, and I respect that, some people don't have the patience to appreciate that, but to me it's art and I love every minute of it. The only two scenes I didn't like were General Titus filling his water felt pointless, and the scene of the boy and Nemesis, which felt too forced. Other than that, really fun movie to watch on a Saturday evening.

Bloody amazing, pun intended
23 April 2023
90 minutes of hard-hitting non-stop good old fashion horror. Builds up on the mythology of the first movies and doesn't disappoint. A few minor flaws of course, which can be easily overlooked as they were obviously a choice to cut the runtime of the movie, and I think they surprisingly help the movie's pace, as the director opted for the smart thing in horror: the less explanations, the greater the fear. I really enjoyed it as it keeps you in your toes. I'm a big horror fan and, unlike others, I didn't find it cliché at all, because it had a lot of good horror scenes. The acting was great and the Director is clearly a Kubrick fan, with several nods to him.

Horror done right!
12 November 2022
A great horror movie. Great story, great acting, great practical and visual effects, an unsettling atmosphere and some unexpected twists. I couldn't help myself from saying out loud "What the hell are you doing?" several times throughout the movie, which was pretty funny and hasn't happened in a while. I imagine that the writer had that in mind intentionally. I also liked the cinematography during the Richard Brake introduction scene. That choice made it pretty unsettling as well. If you like horror, you'll surely love this one. The way the story is told was also refreshing and made it more engaging.

A love letter to the action-packed gory flicks of the 80s
23 May 2021
I really loved the movie. It has also been a long time since a movie made me laugh out loud spontaneously (that vault scene killed me). Like I said in the title, it has a lot of references to 80s action and horror movies. Like the movies in those days, it's self-aware. It knows exactly what it is and it doesn't try to be anything else. It's a plain and simple badass action/horror movie. I really don't understand the bad reviews. It's a Netflix movie, not a blockbuster with a 200 million budget. It follows the same premise of other action/horror movies I love, like Predator (or have you forgotten that cool but cringy opening scene with Weathers and Arnold?). I really loved how the Director mixed several genres, the references to Greek mythology, the reference to the great Joseph Campbell, and of course, the reference to several of my favorite 80s movies. The use of the vintage lenses with such narrow aperture was also pretty cool, because not only it made the movie more claustrophobic, it also gave it a unique style. Also, if you're looking into an explanation for the alpha zombies, you might want to check out carefully the opening scene when the trucks are leaving Area 51. The answer is there.

The show is amazing, but wow, what a remarkable performance by Billy Crudup. He totally kills it! I love his character, so funny. We need more of him! Great work! Of course, the rest of the cast is also amazing! Great job everyone!

A must watch!
13 June 2019
After watching it, I realized I knew nothing of what really happened in Chernobyl. Extremely well-written script, fabulous acting by all actors, mind blowing cinematography, directing and photography. Some of the best Special Effects I've seen in a long time. I truly can't say what was CGI or what was practical effects. A true story told perfectly! Simply amazing! Congratulations to everyone involved!

Awful movie!
15 May 2019
Let me just start by saying I'm a huge fan of DC Comics. I loved the work of Zack Snyder on Man of Steel and BvS. He truly understood the DC characters and everything that goes with them. Remarkable work. Now, for Shazam, I just asked myself "what the hell am I watching?" Horrible movie. This is not DC. This is DC trying to be Marvel. The DC characters are everything Snyder did with them, absolutely not this. The only good thing about this is the actor that plays the villain. Awesome work. Everything else is pure garbage. I can't understand why so many people liked this, so this is my opinion.

How to ruin a great character!
13 September 2018
I'm so disappointed by this movie. I really thought this was going to be great. Valak is one of the best horror characters of the decade, how could they get this so wrong! The irony is that they had the perfect setting. It had all the ingredients to be a very dark movie. Two great actors too. But then they decided to go into religion with some really far-fetched stuff. I would have kept the origin story as a flashback, but it think it might have worked much better on modern days. Such a shame to loose such a great character like this.

Badass movie
12 September 2018
What an amazing movie. Benicio and Brolin are on top of their game on this one. I highly recommend it if you love a fantastic action thriller. Really well directed and less confusing than the first Sicario, although both are equally great. Go see it! I believe you'll love it.

Great movie! Underrated actor!
31 August 2018
Logan Marshall Green is a great actor and he really shines on this one. The movie is action-packed and has some incredible fight scenes. I gave it a 9 because the ending could have been better. Go see it if you like sci-fi , great fighting scenes and a great revenge story.

Ben Affleck, the true Batman!
26 March 2016
I really don't understand the bad reviews. I loved the movie. Sure, it has flaws, like the way they introduced the Justice League characters, the CGI of the villain and finally Jesse Eisenberg portrayal of Lex Luthor (sorry Jesse), but the rest of the movie... my God! It's amazing! Cavill and Affleck truly nailed it. They are exactly the characters from the comics. It was like seeing the comics come to life. Snyder did an amazing job, like he did with Watchmen. Truly faithful to the comics. It's like reading a comic book. Don't expect to go see jokes and funny moments, this is a very dark movie with a dark and serious tone, just like DC is supposed to be. I give it a 10, I would give it an 8, but with all the haters out there, some people might be influenced by the negative rating of the movie. If you're a comic book fan or a fan of these characters go see it. Ben Affleck really shines on this one! Truly amazing work!

One of the best horror movies I've seen! Brilliant!
29 April 2014
First of all, I'm very critic about horror movies, and up until I got my hands on this, most of those I've watched were pure trash. But this one is out of this world (yes, that good, great, amazing, name it). I don't understand how the studios have such a jewel in their hands and... they do nothing! I never heard of this movie before up until now! It's simply brilliant! One of the best, if not the best, horror movie I've seen in a long, long, long time. Amazing story, amazing cast, amazing cinematography. Filled with dark twists and a new retelling of the werewolf story. Loved every minute. I give this a 10. Congratulations to the cast, director, writer and of course, all the crew involved. Brilliant!

I read the book, so...
13 February 2013
OK, I have to admit I was very disappointed, but I was expecting it. For those of you who haven't read the book, please read it. There's much more to this than what the movie literally ruins. The only thing good I found on this movie were the actors, all of them 10 out of 10, and that's the only reason I'm giving the movie a 5 (specially for the actor playing M). I don't understand why a studio buys the rights for such a great story and then this is what they have to give us. They changed/removed what the story had best: depth and a message. It seems they decided to make this a "twilight" of zombies or something. So, I advise you all, read the book or you'll be missing out. It's so much more fantastic than the movie.

Sound City (2013)

Well, it's an honour to be the first reviewer
1 February 2013
I give this a 10. It's absolutely brilliant from start to end. I was just sad... it ended. Dave congratulations man. I'm deeply touched by this. He gathered some of my favourite musicians and some of my best memories. It's about Sound City, about the Neve, about Rock, about making music with your soul, it's about the true essence of music, us, the humans, and them, the instruments and our interaction with both. It doesn't, in any way, like most are saying, defend analog over digital. The message is clear, make music with new technology, but do not let new technology make music for you. As I said, I'm truly touched by this. After watching I felt like: "God, I wish I could rehearse tonight to kick the ***t out of my guitar with my band." It's an inspirational documentary for us musicians. To have the chance to see this guys, together in a room, writing songs... I mean, McCartney and Grohl, and Reznor and Homme, among many others. This... This is something special. Truly special. I wish I could shake these guys hands, but I can't, so here are my words for them: Thank you very much for this. It blew me away.

What a fantastic movie!
19 December 2012
I don't usually write reviews, and I don't usually give tens to just any movie, but this one, my God, this one deserves a ten. The whole movie is fantastic, solid, amazing. The actors, specially Caleb are above amazing. Truly fantastic performances. The script is fantastic, and the end, the end is in one word: EPIC! Definitely you must see this one. I really loved the movie and it's a shame this director hasn't had more chances to do any more movies. Congratulations to the all team who did this piece of art. Fantastic. Amazing! Brutal! Go see it! It's a hell of a joyride. When I saw the cover I thought: "a rip-off of The Crow!" Boy, was I wrong!

My god, what a fantastic movie!
15 November 2012
I have been a fan of all the Nolan's Batman movies, but this one is simply a work of art. Fantastic from beginning to the end. Although I was pretty disappointed with the depiction of Bane by Tom Hardy, which I may say was a very difficult character to portrait, specially with the way they tried to recreate it, which clearly didn't work, all the other actors were amazing and Anne Hathaway was an amazing good surprise. The best thing about these movies is how real the characters feel. That is something very hard to accomplish on a super-hero movie, but Nolan did it. I was also pretty amazed with Joseph Gordon-Levitt, he's getting better and better as an actor. Bottom line: amazing movie. 10 out of 10. Loved it.
