Great continuation of the Doug Glatt story. Made me very happy.
5 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I really liked Goon, and had no idea a sequel had been made until today. This movie, like the first, was a very pleasant surprise.

Since the first one just ends with the big fight between Scott & Schreiber, I was really happy to have a continuation of the story, some more character development, and most importantly, a sense of closure for Doug Glatt. I feel like they really delivered in this aspect. That final punch, cementing his new life and dedication to his "team" was a moment of pure joy!

It was great to see the entire gang back, especially Schreiber. I was also happy to see that Wyatt Russell was in this, and wow -- he put on an amazing performance. Awesome villain.

Just like the first one, this movie made me smile a lot, and really care about the characters. I hope Ross "The Boss" Rhea is OK...actually kinda bummed we don't get a satisfying ending to his story, but maybe they're saving that for Goon 3 (fingers crossed).

I had no idea this sequel existed until a few hours ago, and I am very happy and grateful that it was made.

Copycat (I) (2016)

Meh

I think the reviews on here are probably by the film's production team.

I'm not saying I didn't enjoy it at least a little--I did see it through to the end...but it's a very low budget movie and much of the humor is of the dick-joke variety (not that i don't like that type of humor).

The movie is slow paced, takes place mostly in one or two rooms, and has about 6 or 7 characters.

That being said, I liked the actors in the film, especially Kevin Machate (I actually had to do a bit of searching for his name just now, the IMDb page doesn't have a picture of him, that's how low-budget this film is lol).

There were some laughs, sure, but honestly not that many (and I laugh easily, even at the dumbest stuff).

A few times during the film, the comedy is literally spoof-like, making fun of itself, which really lowers its value.

Worth a watch if you have literally nothing else to watch...

Oh, and the title bugged me... Copycat is the name of the awesome 1995 Sigourney Weaver serial killer movie! At least name is CopycatS or something different, come on!!!

Amazing

OK, I get where the negative reviewers are coming from--the plot seemed formulaic at times.

That being said, Allen executes it well and manages to make it seem fresh. I was taken completely by surprise by much of the film.

I love Joaquin Phoenix, even more-so after this movie. Wow.

Also, as someone who enjoys literature and philosophy, the quotes thrown into the script were great; one of my favorites was "in order to really see the world, we must break with our familiar acceptance of it". This made me pause the movie and look up the quote's author (Merleau-Ponty), and any movie that makes you think and learn new things like that is surely worthwhile.

Give it a chance. I almost didn't watch it, but am sure glad I did.

Honestly, one of my new favorite movies.

I liked it
21 January 2017
In short, I liked this movie a lot; it made me laugh and cry, though not without a few eye-rolls in between. That being said, I think it deserves more than the 5.5 rating--at least 6.5/7.

I agree in part with both the reviews on here (the 2 star, and the 8 star) in that sure, it was cheesy at times and the writing often struck me as contrived, but the superb acting from our two leads carried the movie to heights it wouldn't have achieved otherwise.

I'm a Sudeikis fan and as usual he delivered a solid performance. I believed and felt what his character was going through--the paralyzing, confused helplessness of loss and subsequent searching for understanding.

Maisie Williams is awesome. I felt like even though Sudeikis got more screen time, Williams was the star here and kept me intrigued throughout. Such a great, authentic actress.

Overall, really enjoyed the movie and would definitely recommend it.

Enjoyable, if somewhat formulaic
19 November 2016
This movie is definitely worth more than its 5.9 rating. It's suspenseful throughout, and of course the charismatic Aaron Paul did a really good job in making you sympathetic to his WTF IS GOING ON mindset. I was really invested in his struggle and excited to see where it went.

I see what another reviewer was complaining about when they referenced the director's use of continual flashbacks--in fact I became a bit irritated with one flashback later on, because I was so into finding out what happened. So I guess the technique was effective in building suspense while clearing things up, so I wouldn't really fault it--its just the style they chose to go with, and it worked.

I think the writer did such a great job building intrigue in the body of the film, that when the end came, confirming the somewhat formulaic subject matter, it was like OK that's kinda exactly what we've been expecting to happen, but still pretty frickin awesome so... I'll take it.

Good mystery, deserves a better rating (6.5-6.9 for sure, 7+ if maybe the ending had a little more of a twist)

Intriguing tech mystery--can't wait for more
28 May 2015
I am very interested to see where this show will go. The person who left a 1/10 rating must not like technology/hacking/etc themed stuff (why did they watch it in the first place then!). I loved it. Hints of fight club/conspiracy theory stuff, but not too over the top. Overall, I love the sense of mystery coupled with the tech stuff, and will definitely be watching this one religiously. If you are at all into technology, especially the underworld of technology ie hacking, you will like this. If you like stuff that underlines the insanity of our dollar-based culture, elite basking in money while the poor suffer etc, you will like this show. Just watch it. It's good.

Very well made, entertaining movie. Definitely recommend.
11 May 2015
As others have said, surprisingly good movie. I liked Sean William Scott before, now I respect him. It wasn't just him though--really, all the characters were genuine, and made me like them/the story. Sure, the humor is juvenile (my 65 year old mother wouldn't like it either), but I was cracking up throughout the whole thing so...

The main plot is predictable, but the side-character interactions are gold (sometimes hilarious, sometimes oddly touching). I feel like the casting/writing/acting were all so good that the cookie-cutter plot (depressed lonely guy, by huge coincidence meets beautiful depressed lonely girl) was pulled off quite nicely.

Overall, quality. Very enjoyable film.
