Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: Graveyard Rats (2022)
Iron maiden's No Prayer for the Dying live action
Clearly inspired by the cover of the aforementioned heavy metal album this episode is much better than the previous one. It combines humour with great cinematography and a sense of claustrophobia. The series hasn't yet reached the levels of great but there is a clear improvement here. Unfortunately what we have seen can only scare you if you are 12 years old and younger. Up to now it falls to the usual 6-7 Netflix level. We have to add that the acting is top notch and the soundscape and special effects are of the highest level. It certainly renewed my interest to keep watching the series. Let's see...
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part I (2022)
Not again...
An hour episode that should have been 15 minutes, a script written by 10year olds (3 of them!) for 10year olds, one of the worst casted evil characters (the talentless Reva person) that is less intimidating than Obi's odour and a completely generic soundtrack, a lot of fan service. That sums it up. Don't waste your time.
Red Notice (2021)
Great...if you are a 12 year old
Otherwise it's a super cheesy, amateur writing, borefest. I challenge you to watch past the 25 minutes mark and not yawn at all. Really don't know how movies like this get green lighted. Doesn't anyone read the scripts?
Spend your precious time somewhere else.
Midnight Mass (2021)
Please erase the final episode
The only analogy I can think of is the game of thrones ending. The final episode was so bad it completely devalued the rest of the series. It is obvious that the writers didn't know where to go after the vampire apocalypse and wrote a an ending that makes no sense. Oh it also contains people singing for about 10 minutes.
Eftyhia (2019)
Extremely Overrated
Mediocre and at times cringeworthy this movie has alot of editing and pacing issues. The performances are overall decent but some scenes are extremely overacted. The songs are excellent ofcourse but it's a shame they couldn't implement them in the story and they made up the 'award' section. It's worth a watch on tv but nothing more.
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)
Boseman the true star
The only two reasons to watch the film is Boseman's incredible performance and the artistic cinematography. The script is very mediocre and Ma Rainy is EXTREMELY annoying.
The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020)
Usual Netflix shipwreck
Started off with a good premise based on a very interesting book and went downhill fast. A classic ghost story turned into a blunt soap opera with the obligatory Netflix lesbian affair. Abandoned ship after ep.4
Tenet (2020)
Easily the worst Nolan film
Being a huge Nolan fan I anticipated this release. I think everyone of his films (exluding the mediocre third batman) is a masterpiece. Unfortunately this time he got everything wrong. First of all the script, though based on an interesting idea, is all over the place. Nothing is explained or completed. I struggled for the first hour to understand what is happening and then I stopped caring. And that brings us to the second fault. There are no characters, only puppets with no backstory or evolvment arc, muttering Nolan's ideas like "text to voice" wikipedia. The music is very annoying, most of the time covering the actors voices. The actors try to do their best with what the were given which is not much. Well...with the exception of the completely talentless protagonist. Hope this mess is the only low point in Nolan's filmography.
Ad Astra (2019)
Amazing technical achievement ruined by awful script
First of all the film is beautiful. It is wonderfully lit and photographed and the music is a thing of beauty. Unfortunately the whole movie is ruined by the awful script. I will not comment on the numerous errors in physics. The worst of all was the betrayal of my anticipation that the story was going to evolve to something meaningful resembling strongly the story in "Apocalypse Now". Sadly it is another proof that mainstream American cinema is long gone. The holy American family meets the Almighty God in space contributed by the obligatory racial diversity. Made me want to puke in the end with the also obligatory happy love story ending. Spare yourselves the two hours.
Game of Thrones: A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms (2019)
GOT turned into a teen girl romance
It's not only the laughable lines. It's not the complete lack of plot. It's not even the total destruction of greatly built characters. What infuriated me the most, and the thing that shows the showrunners' complete retreat from making a historic show is the poor excuse of a direwolf replaced by a white husky not explaining where it was for 3 seasons. We will all cheer at the CGI battle next episode because it's all we have left and it's all Martin's fault.
Bird Box (2018)
Mr brain has left the building
This movie contains everything that is wrong with modern age film making. Stupid political correctness. Idiotic decisions and actions. Running time over streched and no resolution at all. Only 2 stars for the only likeable character, mr Malkovich
