It Comes at Night (2017)
Watch VVitch instead
I keep getting duped into thinking that A24 produces good movies. What a waste of my time - it started off promising, the tension was great, I was interested in figuring out the mystery. That hope fell completely when I finally realized that nothing was going to be explained. No backstory, no explanation of what was happening - just a lot of questions and a disappointing ending. Half way through the movie I started checking the time left and wondering when they were going to get to the point, even at the climax I checked the time stamp to see if there was enough minutes left for a twist or a monologue or SOMETHING.
Honestly if you want great tension AND a satisfying ending, watch VVitch instead.
The Day After Tomorrow (2004)
Definitely not scientifically accurate but I love it anyway
Honestly I love this movie. No matter what I'm doing if I see this on tv I go ahead and grab a drink and put my feet up. Don't watch this expecting realism. Just watch it for what it is - a disaster movie that suspends reality and science to reunite a father and his son during the storm of the ages.
The Nun (2018)
Would see a second time!
Not much of a horror fan, but I do love The Conjuring movies. I knew I was going to enjoy this movie when I saw the teaser.
Spoilers ahead?
I loved when Sister Irene interacts with the Sisters in the abbey [convent?]. I didn't question it at all, but when the reveal came around I couldn't believe I had forgotten how opening scene played into it! Maybe for other people it was obvious but I fell right into the pacing of the movie.
8/10 would see it again!
