This is no comedy, despite certain scenes do make you smile
You have read what this movie is all about and you can probably guess how this ends, if the description reads comedy. I would like to share my thoughts after just seeing the movie. This is no comedy, despite certain scenes that do make you smile. It could be personal, as my mother in law died from cancer 2 years ago, but no ones oncology diseases is any laughing matter. Of course all should carry on with life after oncology disease is being diagnosed and there should be moments of joy but I am just against the comedy description just for the sake of comedy and drama definitions.
The movie is otherwise brilliant! It does work on all levels and one get a good feeling and fondness for the main characters. The whole drama is directed and presented in realistic and likable way. I did give it 8 out of 10 as I did enjoy all moments.
But this is no comedy...
That's My Boy (2012)
Classic, sick but funny
A father trying to reconnect with his son. Clash of generations. Search for perfect love. Such eternal topics could be found in the move, perhaps similar to a Shakespeare comedy of errors, but Adam Sandler spoils it all with certain level of profanity that elevates above the average norm, even for Adam Sandler movie. To start with his favorite topic of gerontophilia with him again and on multiple occasion f***ing an old lady. I am personally not finding this amusing at all. And this is just a bit of the sick parts of the movie. Last but not least, if you ignore the profanity as such silly jokes, there are couple of episodes, if not the whole movie, when you can laugh your heart out, in particular to the sequence around the bachelor party. as summary: classic, sick but funny movie to watch with friends and beer. not kids friendly
Love.net (2011)
better than expected
I did watch the movie somehow late, just now on TV. I was however gladly surprised: Bulgarian movies are usually in the extremity of being so pretentious in being art or too populist in being consumer oriented. Love.net for me is just on the balance of being a genuinely good movie and good entertainment for those interested in having good value for their tickets. Let me try to explain why this worked for me.
1. The story told in the movies is real. This could happen anywhere in the world with people speaking Bulgarian, English, Spanish or Chinese for all it matters. The moral choices the protagonists have to make to make sense and could relate to anybody in our internet world. This is why the movie should not be seen as Bulgarian as staging and the showcases lifestyle is not the lifestyle most Bulgarians enjoy, but this is how anybody in the world that has similar problem would live, and I do dare to say Bulgaria is right on the money there.
2. The movie is good fun: perhaps too much nudity in some scenes, but again this is art: the scenes are from a very successful staging of Casanova at the national theater.
Yes, I do agree there are some flat lines, but give some proper English translation and all will be fine.
