Supergirl (2015–2021)
8/10
lighthearted
26 October 2015
It seems many of the critics were expecting something along the lines of Man of Steel or CW's Flash/Arrow, Supergirl is not that. Although the show has two of the same producers of the aforementioned CW shows, it's less dark and moody. It is more of a lighthearted drama with action and comedy. The cast is upbeat and fun to watch especially the lead, Kara Danvers. She is very endearing as she confronts challenges in the real world and in the supernatural world. The background music is solid and uplifting. Some of the dialogue gets cheesy but it doesn't diminish the story. The story is simple and easy to follow. Some sophisticated viewers might find it banal. Hardcore DC comic fans might be disappointed as well by the casting and storyline but for the average viewer, you'll love Supergirl.

The Martian (2015)

Human willpower, ingenuity, & courage
3 October 2015
Where to begin? Let's see, how about the music? If you're like me one of things that I often pay attention to is the score. The music composed in this film was wonderful and elegantly matched each scene. The cinematography and set designs were aesthetically astounding. The cast was as diverse as Hollywood would allow it and had great chemistry. Matt Damon was captivating and endearing. What stood out the most though, was the story. This film had such a powerful message that it's hard to imagine leaving the theater not feeling uplifted. The story of a man being able to find humor in such a desolate place and to persevere through sheer willpower, matched with the enormous faith and support from others, to just decide that he will not die on mars was inspiring to watch.

Frontline (1983– )
8/10
Frontline: Losing Iraq
21 February 2015
It was nice to see more documentaries from PBS on Netflix. I chose to watch Frontline: To Catch A Trader and was immediately intrigued by the program. So, I decided to watch "Battle Zones: Ukraine & Syria," another Frontline documentary. After viewing that I went on to "Losing Iraq." It was then I found out that some episodes are heavily more bias than others, and "Losing Iraq" was one of those episodes. The documentary was filled with ex-Bush Administration and affiliates who lacked objectivity. Not only that but many facts or controversies were left out such as issues involving Dick Cheney and Halliburton or the legality of the invasion of Iraq. This episode of Frontline felt like pure propaganda.

The Tomorrow People (2013–2014)

Cheap Version of NBC's Heroes
9 October 2013
First off the screenplay is very weak. I was waiting for something like a character with an interesting back story, a witty funny character, or a plot twist. Something to intrigue me instead all I get are poorly directed fight scenes and clichés. Maybe it's just me but after watching shows like Newsroom and Suits I can't stand poor dialogue. Another thing is the music, which I felt was very sub-par but it is CW so I guess I can't expect much. I like the story, it's nothing new but it's still interesting. The fact of the matter is though a show like this has already been made and was done very well so if you loved Heroes as I did this show is going to be a let down.

Hot Coffee (2011)
10/10
One of the best documentaries I've ever seen
28 June 2011
This film is much more than a Mcdonald's hot coffee spill.

Just like in Inside Job, I was completely unaware of some of the horrendous things big companies get away with.

Also, flabbergasted once again with our government.

Arbitration, Tort Reform, and U.S. Chamber of Commerce, I've heard these terms before but never knew what kind of serious harm they are capable of.

This film thoroughly paints a picture.

The only ones who would give this film a bad rating/review are the ones who are pro arbitration and tort reform. The ones who would allow a young woman to get raped, force her to do nothing about it, and not allow her the opportunity for a proper trial due to mandatory arbitration which she was not properly informed of when she got hired.

Franklin & Bash (2011–2014)

Entourage Meets Boston Legal
22 June 2011
First off, I think this show is more directed toward viewers in their early 20's and for people not so critical about law.

With that being said, I think a lot of the older cats who watched Boston Legal and The Practice will write this show off. The humor, plot, and characters relate more to the younger crowd than the old.

Cool music, hot chicks, and two funny friends having a good time being lawyers.

If you like Entourage and know enough lawyer jargon, then I recommend this show. Also, if you liked The Lincoln Lawyer (the movie), check this show out.

Cedar Rapids (2011)

Not bad, not too great either
12 June 2011
First off, John C. Reilly is hilarious. I think he was the reason why I kept watching.

Ed Helms plays his usual, typical character, this one a little more sheltered, and childish, personally like Stu better from Hangover.

Not really a comedy, more serious parts than funny parts. The movie really is about morals, and friendships.

Seems like there wasn't a big budget, so don't expect any great scenery or extravagant hotels.

Overall, in my opinion, the movie was very mediocre. I wasn't laughing out loud the whole time, but the plot/story is pretty good; enough for a person to want to finish the movie.

Henry's Crime (2010)
5/10
Good movie but not a great movie
8 June 2011
It's a film with a very simple plot without any twist or mystery to it. If your expecting something like Italian Job or Ocean's Eleven; this is not for you.

It's more of a romance type movie than a bank heist movie. Although, Vera Farmiga and James Caan are great, the story was just not entertaining enough.

The story is told in straight-forward manner, like I said no twists, and did not evoke any kind of emotion where you guess what's going to happen next or you can't wait what will happen next. There isn't much ups or downs, and the ending I felt was very weak. Overall, it's an OK movie but I would not watch it again.

Too Big to Fail (2011 TV Movie)
6/10
Solid HBO Original Film
2 June 2011
I want to start off with saying I don't really watch these types of movies where it deals with a lot of politics and such because I find them boring, but this is not the case for "Too Big to Fail." I was highly engrossed and very surprised. Quite a few familiar faces who all do an excellent job. Music score was top-notch; just as thrilling as Dark Knight or Inception's musical score. Cinematography on point. Overall great story based on a major crisis we are still recovering from. I tip my hat to the director and writers.

E D I T: Although this is a good film, it is fiction. The film falsely portrays Henry Paulson as some type of hero when in reality he is not. It's very entertaining for a political thriller but do yourself a favor and watch Inside Job.
