Curb Your Enthusiasm: The Watermelon (2021)
I laughed so hard
I'd watched all Curb Your Enthusiasm seasons a long time ago and decided to start season 11. Larry David just does not disappoint. I was laughing so hard at this episode. The ending was just beyond hilarious. He just tackles every topic no matter how offensive and I actually laugh out loud every time. Do yourself a favor and start this season. I can't believe how silly yet somewhat believable the scenes are. All the actors are perfect, the writing is perfect, the episodes can be watched out of order which I love. The watermelon topic - I loved it. Leon Black is the perfect sidekick for Larry. A+ writing!!! Watch it!!!!
Dinner in America (2020)
Best feel good movie
This movie left me feeling so joyful. Right after watching, I wanted to watch it again. It's that good. Everything about Dinner in America is perfect: music, story, characters, actors, filming, humor, directing. I just LOVED this movie. I can't praise it enough.
Emily Skeggs as Patty and Kyle Gallner as Simon were so fitting. The way their love story was developed was so endearing. It's not your typical rom-com but it was lovely to experience their story. They're both extreme outcasts. Simon being the hot head punk and Patty being the bullied nerd. I found myself thinking there's no way these characters could be a couple. This movie is so cute and funny. It deserves all the hype and praise. I cannot express my love for this movie enough. Do yourself a favor and watch it now!!!
Death Note: Desu nôto (2006)
Best anime
This is in my top 5 favorite anime. I love everything about Death Note: the music, anime style, plot, characters...If you haven't seen Death Note, do yourself a favor and watch it NOW. It's just a timeless, amazing anime show. I've watched it all the way through twice and it doesn't get old.
Bill Burr: Live at Red Rocks (2022)
Bill Burr gets it
Bill Burr is one of my top favorite comedians. He's up there with Richard Pryor, Dave Chappelle, George Carlin, Eddie Murphy, Robin Williams, etc...You can just feel his anger, understandably. There's not one of his specials I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. He's bold, offensive, hilarious. And he really digs deep into tough topics, unapologetically. I think that's my favorite part of his comedy style. He just does not give a fk about offending people.
Outlander (2014)
I LOVE this show!!!
I have binge watched 2 seasons this week. I'm absolutely obsessed with this show. It has absolutely everything...drama, romance, action , humor, amazing characters, amazing story lines, beautiful scenery, amazing clothing, amazing actors, love the music, and time travel!! I thought no show could top Game of Thrones. This is probably my favorite historical show of all time. Jamie and Claire are just such an amazing couple to watch. I'm on season 4 and there hasn't been one episode I didn't find entertaining. I've seriously missed out on Outlander when it first came out. If you're on the fence about watching it, do yourself a favor and start watching it now!!! I can't praise this show enough.
Good Mourning (2022)
Wanted to love this, disappointed
Something was missing from this movie. Cast was ok, story was ok, filming was ok. Just didn't feel it. Maybe it was the script. Felt like the movie dragged on and on. The jokes weren't funny and fell short. I didn't laugh once. I think Colson is very talented musically and a pretty good actor. Just didn't enjoy this at all.
Outlander: The Wedding (2014)
WOW!! Claire and Jamie...just beautiful
Banat57 wrote the BEST review of this episode. I DO NOT understand the negative reviews for this episode. I absolutely LOVED it. From the first time Jamie and Claire met when he had to share his horse and covered her in his plaid kilt because she was shivering cold, I knew they'd eventually become a couple. At least I hoped so from episode 1. They are my favorite TV couple of all time. That's even including all the great couples from Game of Thrones.
I'm blown away at how intense and beautiful this episode developed. As the episode starts, I found myself thinking, well this episode is the typical boring first time sex scene. Because Jamie was kind of one and done and their first love making was very awkward. Also, there wasn't much revealed of the wedding scene.
But as it progresses, MY GOD. The chemistry, their slow build up of romance, Jamie's sweetness and sincerity, the music, Claire's guilt, the eventual total giving of both characters. It was amazing. Just too beautiful to describe. All this made everything seem believable, that they loved each other from the first time they met. It was also so sweet how Jamie recalled every moment from their wedding. And he's a virgin?!!! Yes!!!!!! How insanely lucky was Claire?! Jamie is smoking hot, as well as such an amazing gentleman despite his drop dead looks. The story development was amazing.
I love this episode. It's the epitome of true romance. I don't care what any negative reviews say. I absolutely absolutely LOVED it. Will be watching it a few more times. :)
The O.C. (2003)
WISH I watched this when it 1st aired!
Watching The O. C. for the first time in 2022 and I absolutely LOVE this show. It's funny, cute, and heartwarming. The actors are a perfect fit for each role, especially for Ryan, Seth, and Marissa. Ryan and Marissa are one of my favorite TV couples. There's drama of course but they're just perfect when getting along well.
This show is hilarious too. There's an episode where Seth is having to choose between dating Anna or Summer and it's around the holidays so there's Christmas decorations around. Seth is sitting on the couch between Anna and Summer and the camera angle is right in front of them. There's a bowl of blue Christmas balls on the table and it's so freaking hilarious (insinuating blue balls). I just love this show. It makes me laugh and at times get teary eyed.
Atlanta: Teddy Perkins (2018)
Wow
This episode was CRAZY. And I never review episodes but wtf this episode was so unexpected. It took me forever to finally watch Atlanta and I now understand the hype. I read Teddy was played by Donald Glover. His acting range is ridiculous because I never would've guessed Teddy was played by him unless I read it. I felt creeped out the entire episode. That makeup job was amazing. The ending....was just WHOA.
Loudermilk (2017)
Hilarious!
This show is hilarious. I don't usually laugh out loud to TV shows but this show is so funny. I love Loudermilk's interactions which random strangers. He's a likable a-hole. All the actors are perfect for their roles. This is a refreshing series on the difficult topic of alcoholism. Highly recommend.
Bump in the Night (1994)
LOVE Bumpy!!!!
I absolutely love this show. I was delighted to find it after not being able to remember the title. The animation/claymation with real life backgrounds is brilliant. The voice actors are perfect. The characters are perfectly weird. The stories are cute and funny. Overall, this is just a great series that unfortunately was canceled too soon.
The House (2022)
Wonderful!!!
I absolutely LOVED The House. The stop motion is absolutely amazing. It's very weird but not too over the top. I actually really enjoyed the stories. The first was the best story, but I also enjoyed the mouse story and cat story. I can't believe how great the animation was. I highly recommend this gem. If you enjoyed Fantastic Mr. Fox, you'd probably enjoy The House.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
How can we ruin the Matrix franchise? "Matrix 4?" Yes.
Ahh Matrix 4. A better title would be "Cash Grab Pile of SH**." It has all the Matrix aspects: cool looking characters, Keanu Reeves as Neo, Trinity, fight scenes, cool tech. And yet, as a huge Matrix fan, this was painful to watch.
So we have Doogie Howser as an unbelievable bad guy. Laurence Fishburne not returning as Morpheus. This is a sequel 60 years later with older Neo & older Trinity but somehow Morpheus is young??? A silly plot basically summed up as: the Matrix was just a game developed by Thomas Anderson/Neo (now on the blue pill side after everything??) who's in love with a married coffee shop regular named Tiffany/Trinity. And now they're back in the Matrix so Neo can "save" Trinity. Meanwhile, the machines are at peace growing strawberries with Matrix humans.
It makes no sense. I hate it. Why was this made? It ruins the franchise's name. I really wish I could unsee this.
Wentworth: Blood and Fire (2015)
Great episode
I loved this episode. Definitely was a tearjerker for me, especially the baby and Ferguson scenes. Franky was always a cool character but this episode made her my fave. Also great is how Bea and Franky put aside their differences to do the right thing.
Raised by Wolves (2020)
This show is AMAZING. I've never seen such a great robot series.
The cast is perfect. The visuals and graphics are perfect. The story is amazing: yes we've seen tons of android shows but this is done in a way that's so interesting. I loved every episode and binge watched it everyday after work. Amanda Collins as Mother was phenomenal. She does so many scenes that looked probably intense to act in but she was totally made for the Mother role and carried the show. Abubakar Salim as Father was perfect as well. Father and Mother had great chemistry and worked well together. The child actors were also great. Especially Campion. Winta McGrath was the best fit for Campion.
The only reason for my 9 rating is because episode 10 is REALLY out there. I love scifi and weird plot twists but it was so out there. It felt similar to Game of Thrones season 8. Like, "WHAT just happened?!!" I HIGHLY recommend this show to any scifi fan, especially to people who enjoy android stories. I'm really looking forward to seeing season 2. Definitely my favorite HBO show so far.
Tim and Eric's Bedtime Stories (2013)
Entertaining!
I watched some of their old stuff back in the day and didn't care for it. It was too weird for my taste. But Bedtime Stories is very enjoyable. It's still weird but less in your face. I found most of the episodes quirky and entertaining. Yes, still somewhat dark humor but humorous.
Meet Joe Black (1998)
I love this movie
This is my 2nd viewing of the movie in 2021. The 1st time I saw it when it was originally released. I absolutely love this movie. The actors are amazing, the score is perfect, the story is fairly original (excluding Death Takes a Holiday), the cinematography is just beautiful. I didn't cry but it definitely leaves me feeling emotional. I have never seen such a beautiful couple as Joe (Brad Pitt) & Susan (Claire Forlani). They have great chemistry as well as Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt. Interestingly, Sir Anthony Hopkins is autistic. He found out he had Asberger's in 2014 which I believe makes him an even better actor. The film is a bit long, being 3 hours long but I feel every scene contributes purposefully to the movie. Highly recommend this beautiful movie, even if you're not into the romance genre.
Willy's Wonderland (2021)
Looked forward to this movie
This is a fun movie. I've always loved Nic Cage. He's a very versatile actor. Willy's Wonderland is fun, weird, hilarious, and out of the norm. I don't know how to even explain the plot other than animatronics and a badass Nic Cage. I highly recommend if you're looking for a different kind of horror movie.
Bill Burr: Paper Tiger (2019)
Hilarious!
I'm a 37 year old white female and I loved this. His rawness and honesty is great. He makes fun of feminism, #MeToo, sex, First Ladies, and I was not offended once...it's comedy. I find him refreshingly unapologetic and it's great. It's sad now that people can be so offended by comedy. Bill Burr doesn't hold back and I loved it!
Matchstick Men (2003)
I really enjoyed this movie!
I'm a huge Nicolas Cage fan. I came across this movie yesterday and decided to check it out. It was very enjoyable and just a cute father/daughter kind of movie. Nicolas Cage played an OCD character obsessed with cleaning, very well. I like how Roy got duped in the end. Was she really his daughter or was it just an act? The ending was nice, how he still cared for her after everything happened. Also surprisingly to know, Ridley Scott (of Alien, Blade Runner, & The Martian) directed this totally different genre movie. Very enjoyable movie!
Friends: The Reunion (2021)
Very enjoyable
I watched Friends when it was originally on but was never a hardcore fan. If it was on TV after originally airing, I'd watch an episode here and there. I think this Reunion show was done very well. I found myself laughing and smiling the whole way. Just very funny and heartwarming still. It made me want to watch the series from start to finish again. You can really tell how close they all are and how much of an eternal bond they have even now, years after the show is done. To all the Matthew Perry critics, he seems like a very strong, nice, genuine person and he should be left alone. The criticism is ridiculous. I'd highly recommend watching this Reunion show. I really, really enjoyed it.
Busanhaeng (2016)
Great zombie movie
This is a really enjoyable zombie movie. I've grown very fond of Korean horror films/directors. And this one is very well made. The actors are great - believably emotional and terrified. Kudos to the zombie actors, they are intense and very talented. It must be hard to play a zombie with the ticks, drooling, and random body movements. Highly recommend.
Solos (2021)
Avoid. It's awful.
This is not sci-fi. This is not entertaining. I watched 3.5 episodes and just couldn't suffer through anymore. A list celebrities, horrible plot, horrible script, terribly boring. It feels like you're sitting in front of an overly dramatic person telling a done to death story sitting in a room. Nothing happens. The script is not relatable at all. This series is a total letdown. And the fart lines...felt like a 5 year old wrote. I couldn't make it through the full series.
The Wicker Man (2006)
This was hilariously enjoyable
Nicholas Cage is in my top 5 fave actors so I might be bias here (I highly recommend Color Out of Space & Mandy)...but I actually really enjoyed this version. It's really not that bad. I found it pretty hilarious at times and of course far fetched. The main problem is the script. When he says "how'd it get burned?" four times! My fave scene has to be when he steals the bicycle at gun point. I mean really...really?!! And his knockout fights with the women. Those scenes are so outrageous you have to find it funny. I'm a female and I wasn't offended by the chick fights. It was an enjoyable watch. This pales in comparison to the 1973 version which you HAVE to watch. That one is awesome and creepy. I'd recommend Cage's version for a good laugh.
Greenland (2020)
Director, do you know anything about diabetes? "No." Ok great!
First off, this movie isn't anything spectacular. Second, they portray diabetes HORRIBLY. It's infuriating watching as being a type 1 diabetic. Ok, she tests the kids sugar when they get back to the car without the dad. His sugar is 300 and she gives him a glucose tablet. WTH..that would raise his sugar more?! He needed an insulin shot, not more sugar in his system.
When they hitch a ride with the strangers, she fills his pump cartridge. No time is given for the insulin to get in his system and lower his sugar. Time to eat a sandwich! And also, you can't just change the cartridge without changing the infusion set (the tubing part). That would cause a horrible infection. You can't use infusion sets more than 2-3 days because of the site potentially getting an infection after 2-3 days on the stomach site. She could've just manually gave him insulin with a syringe. Type 1 diabetes is portrayed horribly in this movie. It's really sad.
