The Days (2023)
Beautifully narrated
Kept me on the edge whole time.
I understand the lack of drama and personal touch in comparison to Chernobyl. But THE DAYS targets different aspects, purely from the point of view of crisis responders and politics.
The sheer complexity of managing an station, series of things that could go wrong, sacrifices made by staff are well shown.
Brilliant photography, especially episode 1 blew my mind.
Clear narration with out over dramatization.
Acting is perfect, great soundtrack.
I totally recommend this to anyone who can appreciate the details or 2011 crisis and can relate to the horrors it unfolded.
Laal Singh Chaddha (2022)
Truly a Masterpiece!
I loved Forrest Gump, been a huge fan for it.
With all the negitivity around LSC, I was just not ready to accept Forrest Gump can be adopted to Indian cinema and can actually be good. And boy, I was so wrong.
Laal Singh Chadda exceeded my expections. Beautifully written, charactroized and executed. There were no unnessroy scenes, acting of Aamir Khan is top notch.
Some of the scenes were better than original. Beautful sound track. I only wish more events of Indian 20th and 21century were added as part of Laal's life narration.
Its shame it dint do well in cinema and cruelly underrated. Everyone should watch this.
Happy Birthday (2022)
Telugu film evolved into this
When you mix guns, pun , sarcasm in the backdrop of silly cyberpunk mockery+ add all Telugu urban cult you get Happy Birthday.
I couldn't believe this is actually Telugu film, film makers broke all the stereotype of indian film , it almost look like photography dept is on steroids.. amazing work..
Shame on local critics giving low rating.. RiteshBabu, please keep these coming..
Naan Kadavul (2009)
Do you have guts to watch this ?
Story of an agora who goes back to normal family.he crosses path with begger mafia.
Cinematography is top notch, great soundtrack. This is so crude I had to gather all my courage to finish this. This is most gut wrenching story ive ever see.
Gojira shingyura pointo (2021)
Top notch Anime
I dont really understand what the fuss is about. This is one of the best sci fi shows recently. Its hard to follow Akihara research and who science, but over all a great entertainer.
Love, Death & Robots (2019)
Probably the greatest show on Netflix
Every 6 months or so I feel the need to browse through these episodes and randomy watch.
Every story is a visual and poetic master piece weather you are into sci-fi, anime or not. It takes you to different universes at each episode and it only gets better. Enjoy the ride. no more words can justify what it is.
Netflix should keep this alive.
Shin'ya shokudô: Tokyo Stories (2016)
Light hearted and beautiful
Having lived in Tokyo for 4 years, I know how much I miss the ambiance of alleyways of Shinjuku.
While origintal show it self is damn good, Netflix has taken this to next level without changing the authenticy and atmosphere of the show.
I cherised every episode of both versions and will definaly recommend, dont marathon enjoy an episode a day. I do that and I repeat .
The Midnight Sky (2020)
What's up with all these negitive reviews ?
Yes, I understand the story was not fully told. The plot is around Augustine and what's happening on earth is irrelevant. film sets necessary premises for us to follow the narrative views of space ship crew and Augustine. The lacking of complete back stories didn't
really bother me (I am curious though ) and I thoroughly enjoyed the slow burn, poetic and mind blowing visuals of this
C/o Kancharapalem (2018)
Who would have thought this could ever happen in Telugu cineam ?
I didn't expect this even after the hype.
Telugu cinema is flooded with star and comedy nonsense and then this happened, reviving my trust.
Story is amazing , not a mash of randam events for an film festival. This is a simple story, that happens all around us. No on acted, they lived it.
Camera work is stunning , the beauty is that it's raw. Not stunning cinematography but orignical, raw and alive in every frame.
Its long but every minute is worth and matters.
Hope this trend continues in telugu cinema, this is the soul of the region.
Hope that the superfical , heart less telugu audiance wont kill this and fade it into super star dusts,
Kiraware Matsuko no isshô (2006)
Life is cruel
If there is heart braking urban fairy tale, it may look like this movie. Story of a woman who comes across 'My life is over' points too many times that she finally realizes that nothing matters in the end. Matsuko is devastating and beautiful. The story of a beautiful girl who grew up dreaming for a beautiful like any child, faces the cruel reality, makes wrong decisions ends up in a trash. This movie reaffirms that what may happen in the end, the life is just as meaningful.
Acting is top notch, music, cinematography and especially narration is brilliant. this is must see and you wouldn't regret.
Sennen joyû (2001)
Beautiful Storytelling
This is probably the best movie from Satoshi.
Life story of a very successful actress in her last days that she narrates to a hyper fanatic reporter. Filled with beautiful and emotional life anecdotes of her. the story is told with a pieces of reality and fiction of cinema .
Art and music is mind blowing, definitely one of the top notch films I would ever see.
PS: Do not watch English dub, its just horrible.
La tortue rouge (2016)
Visual poetry that hangs in your head for days..
The style of Red Turtle is different from other Ghibili studios in terms of complexity of plot and style of animations. The story starts with a person who casts away in a storm to a remote island and then develops into a beautiful plot.
a musical symphony with no words spoken in entire film and every frame of animation took my breath away. It's deeply emotional and keeps you in edge. This is defiantly one of the master pieces of anime world. Style of anime is like a painting and the choice dull colors , moon light ,rain, woods and ocean are dreamy and surreal.
I totally recommend it this to watch in big screen.
Sunshine (2007)
Visually spectacular
Well,I'm not a great fan of Danny Boyle ( God I hate SDM).This is surprisingly an amazing movie from him. The concept as such is a spectacular one. A crew goes to sun to re-ignite it with a mega bomb made out of all fossil resources of planet earth. Previous project failed. So this the last chance.
Now, the drama and everything that happens among crew for crucial decisions is fine but it gets lot cheesier when Pinbacker from last mission shows up and goes crazy. This has totally killed the otherwise an amazing film.
And this is scientifically absurd. Of course you watch like you are watching fiction but com'on the least you can do to space fiction is paying basic attention to gravity.
Even the shots inside the payload that separates from Incrus were like shots in any dome stadium.
Overall it's definitely a great attempt and must watch.
Capa's jump shot from crew module to the payload module near the surface of sun blew me off my feet....
Dare mo shiranai (2004)
Heart breaking and intense
What a beautiful movie this is. The story of abandoned kids doesn't necessarily be associated with streets and rags. 'Nobody Knows' is one such movies , set in Tokyo, of kids that are result of a careless mothers who abandons them and the struggles they go though. This has taken me through an emotional roller-coaster with out any actual major drama but huge shift in characters maturity. The performance of kids is mind blowing. Story was told in very subtle tone with great intensity. Superb photography and great background soundtracks . There are very less verbal conversations in this movie which makes it easy for an non Japanese like me.
Hotarubi no mori e (2011)
Short sweet and magical
I don't understand why many people here seemingly disappointed with the simplicity of plot. 'Hotarubu no mori e' is one of those animes that gonna linger around in your head for while after watching. It's story of a little girl who gets into kinda of crush with a forest spirit. Beautiful soundtrack with breathtaking shots of forest and summer is delightful to watch.
The story is simple with no major twists or heavy drama, most of expressions of simple and short which makes this too romantic.
This is definitely a film that I would cherish and watch over and over. Nothing less to Ghibili studios'.
Omoide no Marnie (2014)
Mesmerizing
I'm a die hard fan of Ghibli films. When Marine was there is definitely on the masterpieces from Ghibli.
This a story of discontent young foster girl who kinda hates her life, moves to a countryside who encounters a dreamlike situations there. A seaside small town with marsh lands, sea tides, old mansion, a silo on mountain with a surreal music will keep us attached to plot all the time. Anna encounters Marnie in strange situations and forms a deep connection with her.
Art is so damn amazing. One of the best animes I've ever seen. Do not miss this even if you not a fan of Ghibli's studios.
