The Bear: The Bear (2023)
Every walk-in has a safety push feature
Unless the show is set in the 20th century. The whole basis for the episode was this...who are these writers??? Do some research. Also earlier The Bear didn't know what serve safe was? There's no way I chef wouldn't know that. The kitchen would have to be inspected by The State, so they would look at the refrigerator. They need to hire writers with actual kitchen knowledge. I thought this show was was on point about writing but then they decided hyper sensationalism was more important than realism. Most of the season was over the top and the focus on high end dining was too much as well. The first season was more true to the business...
The Bear: Fishes (2023)
Intense...almost the whole time
I really like The Bear. It's a very realistic look at restaurants and the people who work in the food service industry. This season has been good, seeing more from other characters. I'm hoping it comes around to the opening soon.
This Christmas episode I found to be very good but voting must be for the many cameos and not the actual show, which was overall mostly predictable, slightly over the top and it needed a couple of minutes less of high intensity. Jamie Lee Curtis is amazing and I liked the subtlety of John Mulaney's acting. Although It's cool to see the crazy family backstory, Fishes isn't close to a 10 star episode. I give it an 8.5.
Ozark: A Hard Way to Go (2022)
Ok I get it...
People loved Ruth. She's kinda badass. They wanted that b Wendy gone instead. The ending wasn't neat and tidy, nor uplifting. It wasn't spelled out. Did people want to see The Byrds die, or move to Australia? Maybe that would have been satisfying. Wasn't Ruth's ending realistic? I mean she killed a Cartel member. I guess I just don't expect shows to end as I want them. I loved the show and the ending was interesting. It made me think, and that's all I expect from great shows.
The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (2022)
Way to much subtext, but even dark comedy needs to be funny
I be like Kristen Bell but you're going to have to be far more knowledgeable of specifics in the genre they are poking fun at to think it's funny. I'm not saying I don't get what they are attempting, it's just not executed well. It feels like they're making a bad show, not spoofing one...
The Woman in the Window (2021)
Poor version of Hitchcock meets Inception
Absolutely terrible. Great actors wasted by a horrible script and abysmal direction. One of the worst movies I've seen in a long time.
Crime Scene: The Vanishing at the Cecil Hotel (2021)
Painful
This doc is all over the place. It becomes engaging then goes wildly off course, then tries ad nauseum to be poignant. It could have been done as one full length feature, which perhaps would have been interesting, if they left the sleuths to their youtube and podcasts.
The IT Crowd (2006)
Over the Top
I like the actors and it started off quirky and funny, but it's way too much. I love wacky comedy, but they hammered it home, and it didn't seem to fit. The open wounds and the fire in the office are examples. A touch of subtlty would have made IT a good show for me...
The Twilight Zone: Time Enough at Last (1959)
No Fallout?
Kind of ridiculous. The acting is great, concept, sets all top notch. However his glasses are the least of his problems. Still a good episode, but could have been great. I would have considered consulting an expert before writing this.
Doc Martin: Out of the Woods (2005)
C'mon
The usually witty humor and silliness goes fully stupid in this episode...two poison induced anaphylaxis conditions in one show lol and an animal trap 🤣 Yet somehow in the middle of the search the guy with a gun can't think of actually using it to find the lost SuperDoc...hoping this is a blip on the radar and not a sign of what's to come...
The Italian Job (1969)
Great until the end...contains spoilers.
Funny, fast paced action ...Caine and the cast make it a fun ride. Good cinematography and real mixture of classic and cinema verite...until the stupidest character in the history of film drives like an idiot. Ridiculous ending that was only there to be used as a literal cliffhanger. Too bad because this could be one of the better films of the late 60's...
Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Did you see it? We didn't.
A shot in the dark is an excellent Pink Panther movie. However it wasn't literally shot in the dark like this ridiculous episode was. Also what do ice dragons shoot? If it's ice, like the ice king, why does it look like blue fire? Why doesn't it shatter? Further- why after all the hype about this bogeyman, does he get taken down in 10 seconds? Poor writing, poor execution.
$#*! My Dad Says (2010)
I tried to like it, because
I love Shatner! Boston Legal was his best acting and the perfect character for him. I was sad when they ended it. When I saw the previews for this I was excited for it. The first episode was kinda bumpy, with an occasional laugh. Shatner is good, but no Denny Crain.
For the supporting cast Henry (Jonathon Sadowski) is just outright annoying. He looks like he's gonna laugh before almost every joke. I wish I had a dollar for every time he says "But Daaaaad?" He's a 10 year old in the body of an adult. His brother Vince (Will Sasso) is a bigger version of Henry, another whiny b-word. So far, he has had two episodes full out neurosis over the littlest of things. Th first is one about a rash on his wife- that is barely visible, and for some reason looks like spaghetti and meatballs, but they never say WHY spag+mb's makes him sick. Frankly it made me hungry, not sick. Bad writing. In the most recent episode he is so upset that his wife fooled around with Henry's friend (years ago)that he kisses the guy at the end of the show!?!?!?
It seems like this show is trying to be shocking, but it just doesn't work. It goes from subtle to over the top in 5 minutes. The most recent episode has Ed trying to retrieve Henry's jacket from a corpse, and there are elements of good comedy, but when they get the jacket, both characters touch the jacket without the slight indication of thought that it was previously on a dead body!!! Nicole Sullivan is funny (as usual) and redeeming as Bonnie, but not enough for me to give this show another shot...
