Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part One (2024)
One of the worst things ever created
One of the worst movies I've ever seen. The writing is so horrendous, it's like watching a child play with action figures. How this got green lit, I have no idea; but it sure shows you how far comic-book shows have regressed. Jim Krieg, or whatever his name is, should be ashamed of himself-and fired. Marvel may be through, but at least they got the Spider-Verse films going strong with masterful skill; but this.... I just hope the wretchedness of it is put to good use, and they either: stop making these, or only make them when they actually have something brilliant on their hands. I'm in literal shock, and am truly fascinated by how awful this was.
Better Call Saul: Saul Gone (2022)
Season 6 is a massive waste of time.
After 5 straight seasons of one flawless episode after another-keeping on par with Breaking Bad in its level of skill and excellence-season 6 arrives and delivers one of the worst seasons of television in the history of man.
The season begins on the cringy unbalance of Kim, and Jimmy's broken energy, and follows as a goofy, ridiculous mixture of gags and buffoonish plot lines. Hours and hours of Nacho on the run (which when put together probably extends, on its own, longer than Lawrence of Arabia), with Kim goofily playing the role of Jimmy-climaxing in its clownishness with the silly little boxing match, and ending with the deaths of characters we laugh at the disposal of--leads to a season of torturous ineptitude; taking away our capacity to care.
Season 6 lost its heart, soul, charisma and humour and was reduced to the quality of a romantic comedy blended with nonsensical action-comparable to films like 'Date Night' and 'The Bounty Hunter'.
What a huge joke, and a massively disappointing way to end a show that was otherwise remarkably brilliant.
Notes on fixing the show-
-When Jimmy returns from desert, Kim remains concerned, conflicted, continues being a good lawyer.
-When Nacho and Fring set up Lalo, the team of assassins succeed; Lalo is killed at home, Nacho goes on the run.
-Jimmy doesn't go after Howard, refocuses on his work with dangerous clients.
-Black and White scenes - Jimmy remains paranoid (stays out of trouble).
-Kim is killed in the crossfire of new dangerous Jimmy client gone wrong.
Ahsoka (2023)
An atrocious waste of time
For most of the season, Ahsoka dons that relaxed smile (looking like she just woke up from a good nap) because she knows that the writers of her show have provided her with absolutely no true conflict, and that she'll skate by every tedious problem with utter ease. Nothing real will be required of her, and no growth of character will stretch her through suffering or reflective introspection. Therefore, she knows she can just sit back, relax, and let the star whales take her away into any unknown realm. Her co-stars are disposable, hollow shells - - soulless, rigid wannabes who are more noticeable as young aspiring actors than their true fictional characters. Either way you look at them, they're awful; and the only way to endure watching is to hope Thrawn kills them all - - which we know he won't, because of the writers decision to keep them all from suffering so much as a scratch. This show is horrendous and I regret watching it.
Eiko e no 5,000 kiro (1969)
Koreyoshi Kurahara with an all star cast!
Another great film by the legendary Koreyoshi Kurahara. Yes, it's a genre film; but Kurahara can't help but make it art, because he's just so damn good. The abundance of on screen talent includes Tatsuya Nakadai (The Human Condition), Yujiro Ishihara (Crazed Fruit) and Toshiro Mifune (Seven Samurai). The score by Toshiro Mayuzumi is beautiful and is available on Apple Music. His genius can be remembered by his music for Kurahara's The Warped One and Black Sun. He also scored Kenji Mizoguchi's Street of Shame and Mikio Naruse's When a Woman Ascends the Stairs. And then to top off this all star team, you have the beautiful cinematography of Mitsuji Kanau, who if you'll recall, did the cinematography for Kurahara's masterpiece Black Sun.
See what I mean about an all star team??
It was the highest grossing Japanese film of 1969 and because of the genre, it was popular and a lot of fun.
If you're a fan of Koreyoshi Kurahara, like I am, you'll enjoy it.
