One dimensional and cut short
14 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not a big MMA fan, or McGregor fan but seen him in a few fights and seen him in the news for other things (so not really positive or negative towards him). Maybe if you are huge fan then you will see the movie differently.

I was expecting to see a story of up and downs, and maybe some childhood backstory, see the person behind the scenes, but you get none of that...instead all you really get is:

  • Mostly following Conor around while he walks between rooms or gets in and out of his various cars; commenting on how nice the rooms and/or cars are.

  • Watch Conor as he talks about how tough he is and how he wants a lot of money.

  • Watch a build up to a couple of fights (ie press conferences and a bit of training montage).

  • Watch a couple of fights (*this was really the only positive of the movie*)

No other characters are really introduces other than a handwavy "That's my mum", and "That's my girlfriend".

Then at the end of the movie it suddenly ends with a black text screen of "Oh and he won a few more belts...the end"

It's not totally unwatchable, but you don't really learn anything about Conor McGregor other than he's a good fighter and trains a lot, likes to win and wants to be rich...but I'm assuming that pretty much describes most MMA fighters.

Amazing and Profound

Everything about this film is mastery. I cannot do it justice with words, but the first thing I did upon watching was to rewind to the start and watch it again just so I could fully take it all in.

Terrible
10 December 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This movie really is unbelievably terrible. It's basically a bunch of extreme sport stunt shots glued together with nonsensical storyline, bad acting and awful script.

It's one of those movies that's so bad they can't even keep basic details straight, such as they drive off a boat at night time for a swim, but it's clearly daytime once they get underwater.

There are some scenes that have literally no bearing on the story at all...such as the scene at the pier when the FBI UK guy is randomly pulling a boat out of the water.

The time-line of just about every event makes no sense at all.

The characters have nothing at all about them; they all seems to merge into one hipster bearded blob on the screen and the only way i managed to tell them apart was from their color coded outfits.

Far too many "You can do it" cutaways
25 March 2011
The movie started well but slowly went down hill as it progressed.

All the characters were far too stereotypical from the "idiot" yard employees, to the "evil" corporate guy, to the "cowboy" Ned. I constantly had the feeling of knowing exactly what people were going to do/say before they did it.

The plot was so predictable.

And worst part was towards the end of the movie every 3 minutes it would cut away to the train yard, hooters, or the control desk and show a group of people watching the TV saying "Come On!" and "You can do it!" Denzel Washington's acting was the only saving factor in this movie, but I don't know why he ever agreed to do this movie after reading the script and seeing so many "You can do it!" lines...

Spoiled by "Killer"
5 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
The movie starts well with Johnson "The Rock" filling his normal hardnut role; just out of prison with a score to settle. This movie, however, had more of a cutting edge than a typical Rock movie...normally he roughs people up a bit, maybe breaks someones arm then calls an ambulance for them; in this movie he just pulls out a gun and blows his victims away without blinking an eye.

Billy Bob Thornton plays the role of a crooked drug-addicted cop very well, and added a nice layer to the film.

Then there is the "Killer"...I think this guy should have been totally cut from the movie. His whole persona (and that of his girlfriend/wife) is totally unbelievable. He's a young "model" guy with British accent living in a mansion in the dessert; he is apparently very rich, a hit man, and has overcome some kind of leg disability...oh and he has a nice picture show of his corny (Climbing Everest,etc..) "achievements" on his walls, and then he later views them as a slideshow on his computer.

This movie started to go down hill as soon as "Killer" walks into his garage and starts switching out the license plate on his silver Ferrari (yeah, like it's going to be difficult for the DMV to figure out who owns the silver Ferrari with a fake license plate!)

Every time this guy in on screen he is doing or saying something stupid. He charges $1 for hits because he is "challenging" himself, yet he seems to totally suck as a hit-man... If they had cut all his scenes out of the movie it might have been a 7 or 8, with him in it; it's a 4 at best.
