La otra conquista (1998)
Great story,main character and music!
Excellent movie with great music and great main character describes us the time when the Spanish conquerors came on the land of Mexico and what damage they have done to people they found there. The loss of identity and struggling to regain was hard but excellent job done in the movie. I wish that there are more directors in movie industry who would decide to make this type of movies based on some serious historical as well as politically supported facts that carries the strong message about cultures and life when ones are lost, instead making some cheesy, violent movies that are satisfying our curiosity just as long as the movie last. Damien the main character carries the message that nations can be colonized , but the culture is carried in the heart and mind and nobody can take it from any of us!The statue of the Virgin Marry, in the movie, is beautiful and represent Catholic culture , while towards the end the statue is gaining , the meaning of mother to even colonized Damien in his own terms he is accepting it and love it,while regaining lost identity to his own culture.
La battaglia di Algeri (1966)
Exlent explanation of historical fact in Marroco during 130 year of Franch colonization.
Sometimes the movies can explain the best some historical happenings and this movie is one of them. The movie helped me empathized with Muslim people living in Kashba, and how they felt like the second class people in their own country for 130 years. This movie was made in 1967,over 30 years before 9/11. When 9/11 happened, I thought who in this world does that?Who kill innocent civilians in the middle of the day by crashing the plane into the building? After watching "the battles of Algiers" I kind got idea, where are the roots of these seek suicidal behaviors related with Muslims. If you would like to understand better how does it feel like being the "guest " in your own home and have a false sense of freedom. Please rent this movie.
Los olvidados (1950)
Great , very touching movie!!
I've never seen a movie like this one before. The movie is a violent, but the violence is presented in the right way, there is nothing glamorous about it, like in today's typical Hollywood movies where when somebody is killed audience reaction is coldblooded. There is no hero in the movie ,everybody is presented as individuals, trying to survive. The movie well present what can happen with children, who grows without family support and love, especially without mothers love.It took me a while to adjust and try to understand Jaibo's character and reasons for his brutal actions as well as behaving afterward. The only light scene in the movie was when Pedro was sent to store by his principle, but the moment of hope for Pedro lasted just a second , until he run into Jaibo. The movie was done like a documentary, and this is why it produces many emotions. The story described seems very realistic and heartbreaking, especially in the scene where Pedro is killed and dehumanized when dump in the garbage.
