The School in the Woods (2010)
Awful.
This movie is awful. The acting is awful. The "scares" are cheap and predictable. I could have put together a better cast with my niece's high school drama club. I will watch any movie that claims to be scary but this one is one of the worst I have seen. Not worth the effort to pay attention to - the characters are one-dimensional, the "scares" are cliched at best, and the acting is elementary, which is a compliment. No one in this movie should ever been given another part again! I wish i could give it zero or even negative stars to keep people from wasting their time!
Unrest (2006)
well, it could be worse
The film features medical students in gross anatomy lab at the beginning of medical school. There are obvious flaws, as a first year very few people refer to you as "doctor," but the most glaring flaws were in the main point of the movie - the cadaver. Real medical school cadavers are older, have been given to the school specifically for that purpose (and are NOT shipped across state lines) and rarely resemble real people as much as those in this movie. But its a horror movie, so I will grant them the poetic license. A medical student who revives her unconscious friend after drowning by slapping his face is difficult to believe, as is a person who dies in a pool of blood from a aortic rupture (what I'm assuming is what the fiancée died from since it was explained as "one of the vessels from her heart burst). Additionally, I doubt any medical school in the country keeps vats of formalin around big enough to hold multiple bodies. And certainly no one would go swimming around in there - the smell off a body alone is enough to make your eyes water and sting. But overall, not a bad movie, the plot is a bit of a stretch but it's worth watching once.
Rachel's Attic (2002)
Terrible!
Terrible acting, terrible plot and shot like a very cheap soft-core porno. I just finished watching it and I have no idea what the point of the movie was. The FCC suddenly becoming hard-core investigators (instead of someone like, oh, the police?), some random child-kidnapping/molestation flashback thrown in the middle, and did I mention terrible acting? Granted, the over-arching theme of snuff films stays consistent, but that's about it. There is no flow between scenes, I'm not sure what the purpose of the Alice in Wonderland scene was, but I guess most of the scenes are that way. The fact that this movie is listed as a thriller is an out-and-out lie. The music made an attempt to elicit a spooky atmosphere, but failed miserably in the face of a terrible script. I wasn't scared, I wasn't thrilled, I wasn't even grossed out by the blood and guts. I was bored. What a waste of my life.
