Africa's Hunters: The Misfit (2017)
The harsh realities of nature
This episode illustrates the raw reality of nature, which is cruel and sad. But that's what "survival of the fittest" is all about. We follow the story of a little cub, the runt of the litter, who gets rejected by his mother, and who must face many dangers on his own. Despite his suffering, he remains determined to survive.
I commend the filmmakers for this excellent documentary, but on the other hand I was upset at them for doing it... I understand they didn't want to interfere with the animals, but the cub seemed like an object for their documentary, filmed coldly. I was hoping that a human would step in and help the cub, that's what conservationists do after all, don't they? I won't spoil the ending, so watch this documentary, it's a must.
Heels (2021)
Surpassed my expectations
To me, Stephen Amell and Alexander Ludwig where middle quality actors. I got bored from watching Arrow where Amell played his character like a robot. And with Vikings, Ludwig was still a fledging actor so he wasn't that impressive. But in Heels, they both demonstrate what fine actors they have become. They deliver stellar physical and dramatic performances. The rest of the cast is also surprisingly good and talented (Alison Luff singing voice is simply amazing). There's plenty of dialogue that weave the story together. If you're a wrestling fan like myself, you won't be disappointed by this show. The cameo appearance by Mick Foley (retired WWE wrestler) was a cool touch.
Quel maledetto treno blindato (1978)
So bad!
This movie is so bad from start to end, I can't believe it's rated 6.5/10. The writing is horrible, the story is incoherent and shifts from one situation to another with the snap of fingers.
It has some cool stunts performed by the actors, but other than that, it's just brainless shooting and more shooting.
The jokes are not funny, useless one liners that don't land much. The portrayed characters are boring, played really bad by the actors.
The ending is nonsensical with a "love story" that isn't a love story. It's one of those incoherent jumps in the storyline that is completely irrelevant. I don't know what else to say, waste of time, avoid like the plague.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Trainwreck
I'm trying really hard to find something to like about this series, but I can't find any. There are subtle references to GoT, it's the only interesting thing about it. Otherwise, there are no arcs, no character development, no WOW factor at the end of every episode, like GoT gave us plenty of. The writing is very average, the story is linear. I had my hopes up, but like every other series done after 2020, none of them has ever shined. This is just another Hollywood trainwreck and it's ruining the legacy of GoT.
Even the CGI is mediocre, the dragons with their tiny hind legs are pathetic and wouldn't scare an ant.
What puzzles me are the fans giving this high scores! I doubt they are true GoT fans.
House of the Dragon: The Rogue Prince (2022)
This show is becoming a soap opera
I don't understand people who are still giving this a high rating. Game of Thrones was damn good (before the last season of course) because it had multiple characters and multiple plots going in parallel. The stories were complexe, independant but yet very connected. This show doesn't have any of that, it's a linear single story with a few main characters. This episode was so trash, the actors performance was worse than the first episode, everybody is so emotional and dramatic. Where's the beef? Where's the umph? I wonder if the books are like that, or if the writers are from the woke generation who write garbage as usual.
House of the Dragon: The Heirs of the Dragon (2022)
Acceptable start, but not up to par with GoT
Interesting characters overall, but highly predictable. In fact, this first episode was too predictable on all fronts, there's no intrigue and no guessing about each character's intentions. Their development was rushed; from the get go we know who the villain is, we know who's going to be the heir, etc... There were a couple intense dramatic scenes, that's good.
The CGI is second grade and pales compared to GoT. The sceneries are washed out and look cartoonish, they lack realism and convincing. The dragons aren't impressive at all. I look back how majestic the GoT dragons were, highly detailed, beautiful, intimidating, fluid in their movements and roaring with power.
Better Call Saul: Nippy (2022)
Most boring episode
As usual, the episode started with an intrigue, but as the story progressed, it seemed to be going nowhere. And by the end, I thought to myself: why did I not stop watching this? The intrigue was stretching and stretching forever, with too many repetitions. Basically, it was a very irrelevant contained story to what we're used to in Saul's saga.
The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel (2020)
The unfortunately biased socialist sequel
The original The Corporation (2003) was a great eye-opening documentary that I rewatched many times. In this sequel, the premise continues where The Corporation left off, underligning how corporations cut corners to boost profits at the expense of human lives, privacy and safety. But suddenly, the narrative shifts into a left-wing socialist propaganda: CNN and MSNBC headlines, anti-Trump sentiment, pro-Bernie Sanders, AOC speeches, Greta Thunberg, social justice nuts and other political bs like climate change, tax the rich, blame the "whiteness" and even George Floyd! What the hell does George Floyd have anything to do with corporations??? Totally unrelated topic. The documentary loses focus and becomes a political discourse. I was going to give it a 10/10, but it became a shit show tool for socialism. Very disappointing.
Babardeala cu bucluc sau porno balamuc (2021)
Movie with everyone wearing masks?
I've had my full of the dumbass societies submitting to mask mandates, I won't watch a movie with all actors wearing masks. Acting is about dialogue and face expression, and being masked takes away from that.
Bill Burr Presents: Friends Who Kill (2022)
Stinks worse than garbage
I thought it was full show with Bill Burr, not particularly a fan, but it was him hosting several comedians whom I never heard of. So, Billy boy starts the show with jokes about Rittenhouse; his jokes simply dind't land, the audience barely laughed, I certainly didn't laugh, then I stopped watching. I skipped through it and moved to something else. That's it, it was nauseating garbage for Californians.
Vikings: Valhalla (2022)
Another wokefest
A female Jarl in Scandinavia with an African decent? Netflix should get its historical facts straight before producing this wokefest of boring characters topped by mediocre acting. Africans never set foot in the frozen North, even less become tribe leaders there.
This "sequel" is a disappointment, doesn't live up to the standard set by previous successful Vikings TV series.
The Book of Boba Fett (2021)
Boring with no storyline
As much as I try to like this show, I just can't. I was expecting something as good as The Mandalorian, since Jon Favreau set the bar very high for the Star Wars franchise, but I was completely disappointed by his new production. Episode 1 didn't hook me up at all, I didn't care for any of the characters, the story doesn't go anywhere, no intrigues. Episode 2... it's a continuation of episode 1, the same boring rhythm and aimless storyline, Tuskens screaming like donkeys (literally), while popping up some familiar looking characters in an attempt to create nostalgia and salvage this abomination. Disney is on a downward slope, and it shows.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Disgusting travesty
After the original Matrix, the two sequels went from bad to worse, and with this one, to worsest. I don't know how to describe this monstrosity. That's what we get with a woke director, whose work had been going downhill since coloring his hair rainbow... I gave it a 1/10, because there's no zero to rate it.
Stripes (1981)
Not the best of Candy and Murray
I'm a big fan of the old school comedians like John Candy and Bill Murray, but this movie isn't their best. The jokes are dull and simply don't land. I watched it once, and I wouldn't watch again, compared to some of their other timeless classics (Uncle Buck, Ghostbusters) that I still enjoy rewatching. The army comedy theme has been so exhausted, it's difficult to make it funny anymore.
What If...? (2021)
Another Marvel woke blunder
The review's title says it all. Marvel keeps going in the wrong direction with their superheroes, and this a new chapter in their cringyverse. Hey Marvel, what if...? I told you, nobody will be watching your garbage? And that's not all, Disney+ is in on it, makes me laugh even more.
Foxcatcher (2014)
Super boring
I tried to stay awake watching this, but it was tough. Very slow and boring. Steve Carell trying a serious role? It's not for him, at least not in this movie.
Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid (1969)
Too much fuss about this movie
So I finally decided to watch this movie, given all the high ratings and positive review. But what a disappointment.
In the first half of the movie, the pace is very slow and boring, almost fell asleep. What's with the bicycle scene? Does it add anything to the story? Or was it an excuse to play the song "Raindrops Keep Falling on my Head"? I find it odd to play that song in a desert setting! Doesn't make sense.
Then the un-ending chase in the desert, bestowing more boredom on the already empty scenario. And after days and nights of running away, losing their horses and hats, Butch and Sundance magically appear back at their village! Yeh right, try to survive in the desert without a hat... they should be toasted and blistered at least, but no. Furthermore, during the desert chace and up until before they made the river jump, Butch had some slight beard growth, convincing right? But when they appear back at the village, they are both clean shaved! Who are they trying to fool with the inconsistency?
Then the Bolivia adventure, it had its moments, but doesn't compensate for the overall waste of time. And as I was expecting, the ending was a big MEH, as if I didn't see that coming.
Predictable outcome, boring lengthy scenes, shallow story, lack of attention to details. This is not the best of Newman and Redford. If you want the best of this duo, watch "The Sting", it has much more substance and is more fun to watch.
Godfather of Harlem (2019)
Top notch performances
This is an impressive production, not too overly violent, that deals with the many aspects of that era: Black crime, drug abuse, Italian mafia, Nation of Islam and Malcolm X, Cassius Clay, and racism. I enjoyed the authenticity of the settings, costumes and dialogues. There is not a single boring "time filling" episode (like many series do), Godfather of Harlem keeps you on your toes and wanting more.
The cast is amazing and extremely talented, bringing back some of the old school mafia actors, like Paul Sorvino and Chazz Palminteri. Nigel Thatch, portraying Malcolm X, is almost like a twin, so much he looks like him!
Godfather of Harlem is not just about action, crime and politics, but also about love, forgiveness and redemption, where each of the characters are fighting their own demons trying to do the right thing. The complexity of all those elements seemlessly blend together do deliver a highly recommended series.
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
The final nail in the coffin signed JJ Abrams
No no no and no. Why did Disney have to ruin Star Wars like this? It's a disgrace. Star Wars is about family, not virtue signalling. Leave your identity politics in your basement, Disney writers and producers. It always brings be joy to rewatch the original trilogy, but Episodes 7-9 are pure garbage I wouldn't rewatch ever again.
JJ Abrams is such a lousy director, he already ruined Star Trek for me, and now this. That guy should stop making movies, he's just terrible.
Woke (2020)
Go woke, go broke
The energizer bunny keeps going and going. This show kept going and going... in the wrong direction. The first two episodes were ok, interesting concept, but past that, the writing became crappy and boring. The acting also went downhill. The only positive thing I appreciated was the cinematography, very cool angles with vibrant colors, have the feel of well shot movie. Other than that, it's garbage and a waste of time.
The Jesus Rolls (2019)
If you have rotten tomatoes, throw them at this mediocrity
Total waste of time. I thought the Jesus character was going to offer a treat of comedy and action, but no, it was a dull, boring, unfunny something. I wouldn't even call it a movie. Just pure trash with a story that doesn't lead anywhere. Did they really think that throwing some cameos would give it any weight? I pity the celebrities who agreed to play in this mediocrity, their bar must be very low.
The Hustle (2019)
Just bad!!!
This movie is another chapter in Hollywood's trend to remake funny movies made in the 80's, while adding a feminist twist to them. They ruined Ghostbusters, now they're ruining Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988) which was a great comedy with great actors and an intelligent script.
This movie takes the original script in an almost identical fashion and updates it with a modern take. The acting is bland and the jokes not that funny. Rebel Wilson has done some hilarious acts in her previous movies, but this one simply doesn't cut it. The caliber of the original script wasn't meant for her.
Hollywood has ran out of original writers. All they do is try to recycle successful classics, and they're terrible at it. Billion of dollars and they can't come up with original TV shows and movies anymore!? Shameful.
Crossbones (2014)
Disappointing with a lousy cast
What do you get when you cast John Malkovich with British actors? A disaster.
Malkovich is meh to begin with, but his attempt on British accent is just terrible. He sounds more like a frenchman trying to speak english, very annoying. His perfomance is not convincing at all, a bald headed pirate with a white goatee doesn't represent "Blackbeard". Awkward at best, I don't know why the show decided to go that way. Can't expect much from an NBC production.
The only champion of this series is Richard Coyle, he portrays his character convincingly and his dialogues cover most of the script. The other characters are boring.
It was painful to watch. If you want a true pirate series with a top notch performance and story, try "Black Sails".
Jupiter Ascending (2015)
Beyond terrible
The story itself has a lot of potential, but sadly it was very badly written and acted. Non-ending long CGI scenes (a bit like The Matrix Revolutions) which made it pretty boring, and not to mention the incredible load of explosions and fast action, you can't even tell what the hell is going on and who's fighting who. Perhaps a hummingbird could appreciate such fast motion! Seriouly Wachowskis, I had high esteem for the Matrix, but since then your movies have been going downhill and lacking any originality (Cloud Atlas was another bore). Please top throwing your money and wasting our time on stuff like this, and do something more intelligent. Adding too much CGI doesn't make a movie any better, because it's repetitive and boring. Unfortunately, many movies suffer from this syndrome, I wonder where Hollywood is going with that.
Star Trek Into Darkness (2013)
Not a true Star Trek, I'm disappointed
I'm a huge Star Trek fan, and I agree with many reviews here: this movie doesn't uphold the true Star Trek vision illustrated by TNG, DS9, Voyager. It's just a sci-fi movie with a dull script, nothing more. Second, what's with the lens flares!!! I've never seen a movie with so much flares. Filming the actors with strong lights in the background is NOT good. It's extremely annoying, extremely irritating, extremely distracting and blinding. JJ Abrams needs to revisit his directing skills. I give 4/10 for the CGI effects, without them it would have been a 1/10. I hope they bring back the series writers to do something significant to revive the spirit of Star Trek movies, or else Hollywood will ruin it for us, the real fans.
