Forbidden Womanhood (2022)
A poem to all the women who suffer in silence
It's a wonderful beautiful film.
Thought a life of a 12 years old girl, we see how the life of a teen in Iran is like. The nuance and the open ending add a good favour to the film. It lets the audience to interpret and decide which direction to follow and either way the story works great.
The realism style brings us to that world and let us feel what she feels.
Thanks to the symbolism, the poetry, and the metaphor, the film is joyful and light, although the subject is heavy.
Today, still, in many part of the world, womanhood is still considered shameful and unspeakable. Let voice for those who could not speak up.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Another master piece
Don't let the trailer fool you. It's much better film than the trailer show. It's very profound statement about the society.
The ending is the best, it says all.
Yes, in the same vein as joker, from different angle.
The Farewell (2019)
Not authentic!
I'm surprisedly disappointed at this film.
The acting of the grandma is horrible! She is totally over act! Who speaks like that in real life? The other Chinese actors are very bad too. But the grandma is the worst.
I have zero emotion stimulation throughout the whole film. When the grandson cried in the wedding, I found it was annoying, it was exaggerated.
So many plot holes!
Someone who came to USA when she was 6 years old, living with parents who both speak Chinese, keeps a close relationship with her grandmother in China, would speak much better Chinese than the actress does. It doesn't make any sense.
If both parents from China, they speak Chinese at home most of the time!
Although it does make some good points about the culture differences , it's not an authentic movie about Chinese culture; from the angle of film art, it's not a good film.
Modern Love (2006)
At least Tom killed himself at the BEGINNING of the film.
Honestly, I think Tom got off easy.
After watching this film I was left with an array of feelings. Why didn't I wax the car? Did I change the cat's litter box? How can anyone give this film a score higher than 3?
It's so strange to read the earlier reviews after watching this film. Those reviews sound the same, seems like they are written by the same person.
Honestly, need a bottle of vodka to understand this film.
The cinematography is indeed beautiful, but the story is .....you know what I mean.
Stupeur et tremblements (2003)
Bored to death
I picked up the DVD because of the introduction seems funny. After half of the film, I was wondering why I was still watching it. By curiosity, I decided to finish the film. And I was almost angry at myself why I wasted another hour of my life.
It is a very badly made, no-story film.
The film set is so far away from the reality, does not looks like a real office. It is hard to fall in love with the main character, almost to the point that you just don't care about this girl, she does nothing to change her misery. And the scene in which she trips herself naked and dance in the office looks really stupid and useless. On top of it, she put the garbage cover herself and sleep on the floor for the night. What does the filmmaker want to say about the personality. Amelie is not lovely, smart, and daring. What is her charm?
What is the point of the film? The reality of working in a Japanese company as a foreigner? Who put up with all the abuse and still decides to stay in such a working environment does not deserve any pity. It is nothing to do with the difference between western and eastern culture.
No company wants to waste their money to hire someone to do nothing. Japan has very limited resource, people hate wasting. A boss would keep wasting his employee's time and papers, it is hard to believe. They might love to torture this little Belgian girl but they would not like to waste their papers.
In general, it is hard to believe that the rating of this film in IMDb is 7.1.
