Super Shark (2011)
Same Old Stuff
Sci-Fi channel HAS to sometime understand that they have a DUTY to REPRESENT this genre with due respect. However, they continue to spew this stupid crap to accumulate the almighty dollar. It is a serious and most probable subject that they continue to pimp out to the masses for money. Every actor or actress that took the money to play in this bull should be ashamed. Science Fiction is a serious Genre. There is NO difference between Drama or Horror or Action or Romance or Comedy. Each has it's Genre and The Sci-Fi channel continues to destroy that genre. So how do we change this? I don't know. But it is sad that our most probable reality is tainted with comedic bull.
The Thing (2011)
Can't touch J Carpenter's, BUT....
It took me a couple times of watching the film to make me appreciate it. You see, The Thing by John Carpenter is my MOST favorite horror film of ALL TIME. So I came into the film being very biased. I am a lover of the 'old time horror special effects' such as The Howling and Alien and An American Werewolf in London and of course, The Thing! I was happy that they tried to tie it in with the Norwegian team and the dog running at the end. Of course, any time I hear the 'Bum bum....Bum bum..' it gives me chills! I just wish two things had happened in the flick: 1) NO Americans were involved at the Norwegian Site. (They just shouldn't have been there and I'm an American) 2) Much More REAL special effects!!!! Stop taking the cheap way out with the computer graphics!!!
The Wolfman (2010)
A truly fantastic try at the original glory
Werewolves. My true love and my true fear. It all started with The Wolf Man in 1941. Since then no monster really got a grip on my fear like the hairy beast. There's no doubt a sense of tragedy involved that did in fact travel to this film. I tried to vote 8.5 but only whole numbers were allowed. Wow, anytime you see Anthony Hopkins involved you know that the Director and the financial backers are serious. I felt and saw all elements of the original film included here. It does differ somewhat by going up and beyond the 60 year old flick but it never truly abandons the gut feeling of the original. Hat's off to all of you who brought forth the old black and white feeling into the modern age!!! Great special effects, fantastic storyline, top-notch actors and a truly ground breaking performance that crosses the lines of sci-fi horror with true love drama. Don't miss this one! You'll be very very entertained!
The Wolf Man (1941)
In all due respect
Every monster must have it's origin. The importance of this monster to modern movies and those to come must make us appreciate it's origins. Regardless of how you feel about actors or plot when it comes to this picture, it deserves nothing less than a 10 for bringing forth into the silver screen the monster of all monsters. THE Wolf Man! Since then, the Wolf Man has stirred so many feelings, so many fears, so many movies. The Howling, Cursed, The Wolfen, An American Werewolf In London, Paris, etc.. It goes on and on and hopefully on. Out of all of the original monsters, Werewolves are number 1 for scaring the crap out of me. It all started right here with this very movie. I still can't watch it without feeling awestruck at how much this film has started and continued the fear of the Wolf Man. Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolfsbane blooms and the autumn moon is bright.
