Shake, Rattle and Rock! (1994)
With a name like Shake Rattle and Rock, how could it not be the fifties!
Though I have only seen this once, and frankly I wasn't impressed with the lead actress, It was great that the writer would choose to reference three characters from an earlier film about teenagers and rock and roll. P.J. Soles, Dey Young, and Mary Woranov are playing the mothers of their characters from 'Rock and Roll High School'. Forget Zellweger and go rent 'Rock and Roll High School' if you want teenage antics and a good soundtrack. By the way if John Lennon was the first "songwriter", then who wrote all those songs that came before him? And as for women playing instruments in the 50s, as an earlier review stated that they did not, apparently the reviewer has never heard of the hoards of female artists in the fifties that not only wrote their own music, but played instruments on the recordings, and live.
Love Is in the Heir (2004)
It's like a train wreck, except you can stop watching
What a novel idea, to base a reality show around the daily life of someone who, in her own country, is a Princess; but here in the United States is just common folk. At first there is that magic of seeing the member of a royal family being exposed to the vacant population that makes up a good part of Los Angeles. Why then is it such a surprise when she turns out to be just as shallow a person, or should we chalk it up to yet another reality series using clever editing to make fools of its subjects. Either way, the show is worth watching just to see how many people blow sunshine up the Princess' butt in that truly vapid way only Hollywood can.
View from the Top (2003)
Relax and enjoy the flight
To truly 'get' this film, you should do time as a flight attendant, or at least go through six weeks of training and then see it. This is to airline personel what "Bring it on" is to cheerleaders, one big in joke after another. To really appreciate the hair and uniforms is to have worn similar or worse. You know when I graduated from inflight training, one of my classmates referred to the fuselage as "where they put the fuel". Believe me, I got the jokes.
The Smokers (2000)
A good reason to quit smoking!
Pathetic. To think someone could actually sell this script to investors numbs the mind almost as much as the film does. The acting is bad, most annoyingly Thora Birch as a wanna be goth-shockster ooohh, though you can't blame any of these actresses for bad directing and lousy editing.
