Deceived (2002)
Holy Moly
This pretty much fits into the realm of the B budget sci-fi category. The brand name actors do an ok job but they fall victim to the script at hand. I would advise most people to avoid this film since they probably don't have the appetite for the preachings put forth in the film.
Before seeing this movie, I had no idea that a Christian Film genre even existed. I will probably not sleep well tonight knowing that it does. It's not nice to sugarcoat your brainwashing, people.
Rollerball (2002)
Blech
Ok, so this movie is terrible. There is no doubt of that. However, there is one scene worth mentioning. The action/chase scene towards the end of the movie that was filmed totally with night vision - now that was cool.
It would have been your standard chase scene in almost every action movie, however it was fresh and new in that it was done with the night vision. It actually grabbed your attention and held it through the whole portrayal of the chase - and in fact it even built some tension because it helped give the eerie almost unnerving feeling of racing in the dark.
So 99% of the population should avoid this movie at all costs, but if you're an action film junkie, it's worth one measely pass to check out how that sequence was done, IMO.
Gunmen (1993)
Entertaining
This is a very light, entertaining movie for its B budget action format. I think performances by all the big name actors are quite good and even the lesser known actress Brenda Bakke puts in a decent performance. Van Peebles and Lambert have good chemistry on the screen though it was not as easily appreciated in the Highlander movie.
I recommend it for light-hearted action fans if only to catch the segment towards the end where they "trade" First-Aid kit back and forth. :)
Session 9 (2001)
Excellent
This is an excellent addition to the horror/chiller genre. Moreso when put next to its contemporaries. Not overdone in the gore, suspense or creepy categories. But a good combination of all three to keep the viewer entertained. Good acting and quality directing complete this. I highly recommended this film to fans of the genre.
Signs (2002)
Weak cliche - SPOILER
The acting and directing were top notch. However, the crux of this movie appeared to revolve around the journey of faith in Mel's character. The premise of "man of the cloth suffers tragedy, loses faith, experiences something great, regains faith" is so cliche it is nauseating. How many times has this been done already? Geez.
Whatever else that went on with this movie was lost because we just don't need another one of these spiritual journey movies. Besides, if the aliens didn't like water, they might not be running around our planet totally -----naked-----. Next time, think poncho.
Y2K (1999)
Low budget but worth watching
The movie was obviously low budget which doesn't bode well for an action flick. However, the motivational premise of the movie surrounding Gulf War vets was unique enough to make this worth watching on a rainy afternoon (or late night). Acting by both Louis Gossett, Jr. and Sarah Chalke were notable. Good job on both parts.
