Well made low budget Torture Flick!
23 March 2010
Now, me being a fan of British horror, I'm really tied up on this one. On the one hand the story is well written and the characters are pretty good and the story flows well with the finale being very entertaining BUT it's quite gross in places with little aesthetic.

I really support this film as it was done through the London microwave scheme, for only £100,000 budget from what I read! Astounding look and feel for that money considering most low budget films start at 2 million! Its worth a watch as long as you don't get offended by a few misplaced (in my opinion) scenes of a sexual nature. Warning: I would not watch this with your mum or girlfriend as you will want to disappear into a hole in the ground.

Anyway apart from the gross bits this film is 'bloody' good for a low budget!

A Breathtaking and Clever Vision of London 2027
23 March 2010
Set in Britain in 2027, This is a sort of sci-fi movie, but it's the film's nervous and energetic style, and creepy familiarity – not any wild vision of the future – that make it so involving. It helps, too, that the director doesn't allow the writing or the performances, most notably from Clive Owen and Michael Caine, to sink amid the film's futuristic detail and pointed ideological concerns, the acting is all top notch.Caine's performance is outstanding, emotional and touching! The action scenes are unmissable!

'Children of Men' is a clever and credible vision of London in the near future – a violent, paranoid, apocalypse when Britain is the only surviving nation, a fertility crisis means that no babies have been born for 18 years. The Department of Homeland Security is arresting all illegal immigrants and dispatch them to a fortified compound at Bexhill- on-Sea. Meanwhile, a rebel outfit of guerrilla refugees (or 'fugees') known as The Fish loom threateningly in the background, fighting for the rights of illegal immigrants and determined to cause major unrest.

The director's smart trick is not to explain too much. Instead, he leaps straight in to his story, which is a good old-fashioned chase yarn that's gilded with some unobtrusive and cheeky social commentary. Well worth a watch, this was my favourite film of the year when it was released!

a supernatural fairy tale with goosebumps guaranteed!
23 March 2010
This is a must see!! At under two hours long, it does slow a little in the middle but wait and be prepared to be shocked and moved as the mystery unravels just after half way through. It will probably give you goosebumps if you're not thick skinned - but that's good right!

It revolves around a creepy family of children in a strange cottage in the woods, the adults they snare keep disappearing, when our main guy appears they take to him but he cant leave... they wont let him! The art department is fantastic! Watch this with some fairy cakes and sweets and you'll feel like you are there.

To sum it up: Everything about this film is wonderful! It just oozes class, the story is a nice mix of supernatural fantasy fairy tale with a small injection of psychological horror.
